Trivia

  • Hiyakkie, along with Yanakkie and Baokkie, and their respective pre-evolutions, are the only non-starter Pokémon that can have a starter Pokémon-exclusive ability. In Hiyakkie and Panpour's case, this is Torrent.
  • Hiyakkie and its pre-evolution are the only Pokémon capable of learning Boiling Water by level-up.
  • Hiyakkie's Sugimori art shows its entire tail to be blue, whereas its in-game sprite, Dream World art, and TCG art depict it as tan with a blue tip.

Origin

Hiyakkie is based on a monkey and a fountain; because of this, it may have been inspired by the water dwelling, monkey-like creature Ahuizotl or may be a visual pun on Sea-Monkeys. Its chest fur resembles that of a volcano and may have possibly been based on geysers, subaqueous volcanoes, cryovolcanoes or the Guatemalan Volcán de Agua. It, along with its two contemporaries, seem to inspired by the three wise monkeys motif; with its eyes closed, Hiyakkie represents "see no evil". The ability to store water in its hair may also reference the Kappa, a Japanese monkey-like yōkai that stores water on a dish of sorts on it head.

Name origin

Hiyakkie's name is possibly derived from 冷や hiya meaning cool water, and from monkey. It may also come from the word けっき kekki meaning vigor.
