Unnamed cities, towns, and villages from the anime

I can make a page for each region (Kanto, Orange Archipelago, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova) with a list of the nameless cities and towns featured in the anime. The pages show a list with an image from the episode, the featuring episode, the location (between so-and-so cities), and facts (such as festivals, events, history, leader, places of interest). Does Project Locations mind that?--Maximoss 15:47, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

If anyone approves of this, I suggest going with "unnamed" rather than "nameless." tc²₆tc26 15:52, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Agreed! If there will be no disapproval by September 2011, I will start working on those pages.--Maximoss 03:04, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
This sounds like a good idea. Since Unova has quite a few unnamed places. --ケンジガール 04:13, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
I think that this would be a good project to start in the userspace. --SnorlaxMonster 11:00, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
I am sorry, "userspace"? I am still new.--Maximoss 19:57, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

I see, so a userspace is my studio, I can work in it with drafts and miss with it as much as I need, until I create my final draft as an official page. Did I get it all right?--Maximoss 04:49, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Comments above were copied from the latest archive as the discussion is ongoing. Werdnae (talk) 05:34, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
Pretty much. Just remember not to make too many edits to your userspace, and read the userspace policy. We are more lenient in regards to maximum number of edits per day for non-personal userspace content, but still keep the number of edits reasonable. --SnorlaxMonster 08:29, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

The "Current Events" area on the Main Page

Usually it has the last ten or whatever news items in there. RIght now there's only two, and it's been that way all day. Is there a reason for this? - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 23:46, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply, but this happened because we implemented a new category system on Bulbanews, and a whole bunch of old articles were edited to fix capitalization (Immewnity to immewnity primarily). Due to the way Bulbanews works, the new articles hadn't been edited recently enough and were pushed off the list. We had to go around and make edits to the articles to get them back on this list. --SnorlaxMonster 08:31, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Venn Search Feature

Hi, I'm Sasshen, I haven't been a member of the community really at all thusfar but I've been using the Bulbapedia wiki ever since I can remember, and I think that it would be a really cool idea to create a search engine within the wiki that can find Pokémon that match specific criteria; i.e., you could use the feature to find a Pokémon that learns both Fly AND is Fire-type, for example. The hits would all be pages which focus on Pokémon in the video games, and the fields could include Ability, Type, different Moves, etc. Anyways, it's just a suggestion, but this feature would make finding certain Pokémon to fill niches, a process that tends to take me some time... and several tabs XD.

Thank you for your consideration,

Sasshen - unsigned comment from Sasshen (talkcontribs)

Veekun already has this, and I think the way Bulbapedia is structured would make it very, very hard to implement here. —Minimiscience 23:33, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Oh, totally forgot about veekun there haha and thank you so much for the feedback :) - unsigned comment from Sasshen (talkcontribs)

Share Buttons

I feel that bulbapedia should have share on facebook, twitter and +1 google buttons to make it more popular and allow people to easily share and suggest information to their friends and family. This will help Bulbapedia further expand, get more contributors and grow. - unsigned comment from Pokepranav (talkcontribs)

Yeah, our staff is working on that feature but it is still not done yet. So, it will take some more days. Thanks for your concern :) ♫♪エイディニズ♪♫ 17:36, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Mistake

There's a mistake with the main template used on Pokémon pages, for the Pokémon's egg cycle it says "x minimum steps" but it's actually the maximum number of steps. The whole time the game counts your steps up to 255 afterwhich it goes back to zero and an egg will need one less cycle before it hatches. So if you receive an egg when you are 200 steps into the cycle the egg will hatch 200 earlier than its number of egg cycles multiplied by 255. Pikiwyn talk 18:01, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Actually, it is right to say minimum steps because whenever you receive or hatch an egg, all the other eggs in your party roll back to 0 on their current egg cycle. So if you recieve a second egg when you are 200 steps into the cycle, it will roll back over to 0 and you will end up having to walk 200 more steps than initially were required. Wikirby

The link to Wikirby on the NIWA directory is broken. It should link to http://www.wikirby.info/wiki/Main_Page, but instead it links to the nonexistent http://www.wikirby.info/wiki/Kirby_Wiki. Could an admin please fix this? --AndyPKMN (talk) 18:34, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Trivia

So I remember that the reason why there was a ban on trivia because many people at one specific time (for whatever reason) kept placing senseless trivia, which somehow affected server load. Nowadays, I occasionally see some nice (I guess) trivia removed because of the rule - an action that may also affect the server. To my point, when will that ban be removed/modified? Trivia is like one of the few things Bulbapedia has over other sites, another being the anime. Many prefer Serebii for games since some data here (like movelists) may be incomplete at times. There's Pokébeach, I guess, for TCG. So... yeah, when will this rule be changed/removed? (when replying, please note I don't really have much of an idea on the technical side of things here, like how much the server is affected) tc²₆tc26 04:20, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

trivia hasnt been allowed to encourage people to find other things to work on, not server load. with BW out, were still not 100% on that game, so people should be doing that, instead of trivia. occassional trivia is fine, but we cant let people go around and ONLY add trivia. its nonconstructive. -- MAGNEDETH 06:00, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
Now that makes more sense :) Though for me, you sort of imply a full ban of trivia with that thing above (with few exceptions being the likes of the things below episode articles). -tc²₆tc26- 10:08, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Categorization of Main Page

Hi everyone, I'm Rassilon of Old, a new editor but long time Pokemon fan. :P Anyway, I've been reading Bulbapedia for years now, and I've only just joined today. I'm also an experienced editor on Wikia.com, so I was having a quick look at Uncategorized Pages, when I saw that Type was uncategorized, as well as Main Page! So I categorized Type, but I thought I would bring up the catagorization of the Main Page with the community. I think it should either be in the Bulbapedia category, or a new category, Index, Browse, or Community should be created. I think the categorization of the main page is essential, and that this change should be implemented on Bulbapedia. I look forward to your responses, and to working with you in the future! Kind regards, Rassilon of Old (Talk - Contribs) 06:52, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Rule's always been that only the Main Page is uncategorized. But whatever the guy with the thing for magnets says. Also Wikia sucks. TTEchidna 09:27, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
There's no reason why we can't categorize the main page. There are a few rules here that don't make sense, and I don't see why we can't change this one. MaverickNate 14:18, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
If we do decide to categorize the main page, I wouldn't go creating any of those categories. Also, the Bulbapedia equivalent of Category:Browse is Browsing Bulbapedia. However, I would personally just categorize it under Bulbapedia. --SnorlaxMonster 10:05, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
i just figured there wasnt much of a reason to categorize it. it is what it is, and everyone knows it. if a rash of people really want it categorized, im sure we could. just didnt really see the need. -- MAGNEDETH 23:41, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
It is also possible to use css to hide the category bit at the bottom, if we don't want to see the category. —darklordtrom 01:59, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
I have to agree with categorizing the Main Page somehow, and I support using Cascading Style Sheets to hide the category links, because who would want to see that at the bottom of the biggest page on the pedia? AlexTheRose 03:42, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

(indent reset) So what category would you like to use then? Bulbapedia? It seems to be the most obvious choice, and it is suitable to the main page's subject. I also agree with using CSS to hide the category. Rassilon of Old (Talk - Contribs) 12:39, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Adding Korean Pokémon Wiki Links?

I couldn't find any info on this so forgive me if I just didn't dig deep enough. Also, I couldn't think of a better place to post this than on the Main Page discussion, since it involves adding another language link to it (and the rest of the site for that matter).

Anyways, what's the Bulbapedia policy of adding links to another Pokémon wiki in another language, particularly a/the Korean Pokémon Wiki? I found one which is fairly extensive; they have 3700-someodd articles and it's fairly well organized and designed.

Plus it seems like they know Bulbapedia exists, seeing as their articles are formatted similarly:

However, I'm not sure what is first required to add Korean links to articles, similar to the Japanese, French, German, etc. links which already exist. Does Bulbapedia have to first be allied/affiliated with the Korean Pokémon wiki? Or is it sinply a matter of someone simply adding the links to all the articles? I'm also not sure if there is an even larger Korean Pokémon wiki, or if you already know about these guys and they're Bulbapedia's/Bulbagarden's "enemy" or something (or allied/affiliated with one).

Whatever the case may be, I really would like to see these links added to Bulbapedia; it'll certainly make searching for Korean articles that much easier for me (and others)! Thanks for your time! :) -- Nick15 22:35, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

The language links are only added for members of Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis, a prerequisite of which is independence from wikia. This is due to wikia's general lack of care for the fanbases they are supposed to serve. Werdnae (talk) 01:12, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. Wikia doesn't even allow the use of independent domains as far as I know. And you're right TTEchidna, WikiA sucks. AlexTheRose 03:50, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Mobile Site

Bulbapedia needs a mobile site. I view on my device all the time. Not an app but a site. e.g. M.bulbapedia.org ---- DrBrock

Is it really necessary? No. It provides the same information, not more, not less. But that is my opinion. Yes, I do go on Bulbapedia through my iPhone almost all the time. Han Ji-Wan 00:53, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
I wouldnt quite go that far, Han. We have been discussing a mobile site, and we almost made an app. The mobile site is a lot harder than simply copy/paste code, and with companies getting really strict on apps, thats looking questionable as well. So the real answer is, do we need one? I dont think we do, but would we like one? Yes, but it isnt in the cards right now. -- MAGNEDETH 21:41, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
I personally feel that while demand for a mobile site will increase in the coming years due to the increase in the numbers of tablets and smartphones being produced, the fact that smartphone screens are getting bigger and both smartphones and tablets are getting more powerful means that the need for one will decrease equally as rapidly as those devices become more capable of loading pages at a suitable rate. Also factoring the advent of 4G mobile services, I don't see it being necessary now or in the future. Oshawhat? 16:34, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

When is the ban on adding trivia going to be lifted?

Adding trivia is something of my area of expertise. I have no problem contributing elsewhere, but I'm just saying, this has gone on kinda long, hasn't it? - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 02:20, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

I hope you guys don't mind me butting in. But I have seen some people adding trivia. Just as long as it is useful and actually contributing to the mainspace. Even I got in trouble for undoing edits made under the trivia section. Han Ji-Wan 04:36, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
Whoops! I got mixed up, I was looking at a previous user's talk page and thought I was still in it. Han Ji-Wan 04:38, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Do you seriously have nothing better to contribute than trivia? How empty is your life? --Transfinite | Talk 10:43, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Was that comment necessary? As you can see, this conversation ended with MAGNEDETH and you felt the need to insult Missingno.? I believe such behavior will not be tolerated on this site. Han Ji-Wan 13:51, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Romanization templates

I'm looking through the wanted pages and... what are these romanization templates supposed to be used for? I'm confused. --Transfinite | Talk 23:15, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

They appear to be used for the anime staff by episode pages. I don't know why they're set up that way, that seems to be the way they've been done for quite some time though. Werdnae (talk) 23:59, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Oh, of course, it all makes sense now. Of course what we need is a template to write a person's name instead of just... writing their name. --Transfinite | Talk 00:19, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Red and Green art

Is it supposed to be appearing on the Pokemon pages, or is it because of the archives having problems? Not that I don't like it (it should switch the artwork all the time). XVuvuzela2010X 06:37, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

I was just waiting for someone to ask this. September was the month Pokémon Red and Blue were released in North America, so the infoboxes automatically set the artwork to the RGB artwork. Simple as that. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 06:50, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
So why does Dragonite have its Firered/Leafgreen artwork then?----Chalkwriter 14:46, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Unwelcomed users

I hate having to flood the RC with four or five new user welcomes, but this is getting ridiculous. It's been getting up to 10-15 in a row when I check every few days, and today there were 36 from the past few days. Would it kill some people to take a few seconds to throw up a {{subst:Welcome}} on their page? I know you're busy, but it literally takes 10-15 seconds to do it. And that's if you're slow. It's not like they're coming in every few seconds. R.A. Hunter Blade 22:47, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

It's true folks. It isn't hard. If one user does it, then it's a lot of random new people depending on one person to fall back on. -- MAGNEDETH 04:14, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
There, I'm doing some welcomes. Are we happy? --☆ヨッシ の世界☆ 21:05, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Pirated Games On eBay

Recently I did some eBay searching for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions and no surprise here, most listings are pirated versions of the game coming from China or Taiwan. Same goes for other Pokémon games. What's even worse is that people that bought the pirated games are now selling them unaware of the fact. Sure eBay has guides on how to spot pirated from legitimate but either the guides have no images, have very low resolution images, or are from a different region (let's say you live in the USA and you see a legitimate European Pokémon game). I propose we create a special article that archives what each legitimate game cartridge looks like or put what a legitimate game cartridge looks like in each Pokémon game article for each region but in a high resolution image (450px in width should be enough for each Game Boy Advance cartridge for example). I am aware that Hack games article exists but I don't think that's enough. Correct me if I am wrong if something like this is already in place. --Wildgoosespeeder 23:18, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Solution: Buy it in a store. TTEchidna 07:24, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Actually your proposal is flawed, these hacked games are built off of real cartridges so making an article like that will not help. Truthseeker4449 22:10, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
@TTEchidna I could but there is one problem; older games are no longer sold in stores. Used games stores may not have a copy available. eBay is the best place to buy used copies. --Wildgoosespeeder 08:54, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
@Truthseeker4449 How is my idea flawed? Common problems of pirated Pokémon games are the save feature either stops saving or doesn't work at all or the game stops functioning properly altogether. Also there are ways to test for an authentic cartridge. One example for a GBA game is if you look at the pins and tilt in such a way, if you see the Nintendo logo with or without the oval with a copyright to the left and an "AGB" code to the right, it's authentic. I don't see why having a detailed article would be a bad idea. --Wildgoosespeeder 08:54, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
It isn't the kind of thing that is appropriate for Bulbapedia. Feel free to make a user subpage ("User:Wildgoosespeeder/Identifying hacked games" or similar) or a blog on the forums. What you are suggesting is really a set of tips and pointers to ensure that your game is not hacked, something which is unencylopedic. --SnorlaxMonster 09:13, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
My soulsliver is hacked game off ebay, the way I know is on start up the ds says the game is star wars. Also, after the credits, the game does not restart on its own, I have to turn it off and back on again. Just puttin a picture will not work, Other than what I have said, there is no way to tell it is a fake game. But it still plays nice though. Truthseeker4449 16:48, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
@SnorlaxMonster Fair enough argument but who's going to see? --Wildgoosespeeder 21:04, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
@Truthseeker4449 You are dead wrong. There are ways to tell if a game is pirated or not. Usually its the subtle details that determine the difference. Here's just several more examples that apply to all games. If there is American coverart and the game location is in China, it's probably a bootleg. Nintendo makes their labels nearly perfect. Pirated copies may have lopsidedness to them or things don't line up compared to the authentic counterparts. Nintendo changed there seal from "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality" to "Official Nintendo Seal" back in 2004 or something (just look at Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire Versions and Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions for a comparison). I got a little more crazy about it here and here. Plus pirated copies hurt the developer because the money made by the pirated copies don't go to them. --Wildgoosespeeder 21:04, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
You ask "who's going to see?", the same question applies even if it was in the mainspace. How many sellers/re-sellers are going to come to Bulbapedia to check if their game is a bootleg? Beyond that, a page would be of no use to buyers since there's often no way to really tell you're bidding on a bootleg game until it arrives at your doorstep. And, Bulbapedia definitely can't go around saying things like "If the game is American and the seller's location is China, it's probably a bootleg." that's just asking for trouble. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 23:15, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
@Kogoro Those sellers are just uninformed and most probably aren't gamers. Actually a page I am suggesting would be helpful to buyers because most eBay listings I've seen take a picture of the game cart. Some use stock images so it's a gamble. Plus if you suspect if you have a counterfeit of an item, you can file a dispute to hopefully get your money back. Sure the page will be unpopular at first but through featuring on the main page, word will get around, maybe even be featured on the first page of a search engine like Google or something. Although ideal, that may not happen exactly like that but more exposure means more informed people. When you say "asking for trouble", what do you mean? Of course in writing there is always a "draft" form before it becomes "final" with more approprate wording. Maybe instead of saying "if it is from China", say "look for games for sale in your region and not from a foreign country" or "Japan, North America, and Europe are where authentic licensed copys of Nintendo games come from". --Wildgoosespeeder 00:02, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Pokémon Rumble Blast

Pokémon Rumble Blast will be released in North America in two days. However, only one out of the 20+ locations has an article, and that article is barely linked to anything else.

Would it be possible for a location template to be made to link all of the stages (grouped by chapter) and towns so that creating and formatting the articles will be easier for people? I do not think I have the authority to create a template and I'd like to start editing the pages as soon as possible. Like a navigation template to go at the bottom of the page? Sure, you're welcome to make one. Just run it past someone before you put it on the page to double check it. For the Pokemon that appear in each area, I can make one for you, but I need to know how the game works. Is it like the Previous Rumble where there are four ranks for each location, or is it more like Mystery Dungeon where there's just one set of Pokemon for each location? Sorry I can't be much hore help, the game doesn't come out here until December. Werdnae (talk) 19:01, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Rumble Blast was pre-released today. There is only one set of Pokémon in each area and the strength levels do not increase until you clear the game. Beginner's Park is the English name for the first level. ----Sparen (talk) 21:10, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

Okay. I have made the first two pages and I think they won't be deleted immediately. Anyway, we need a template for the Pokémon that can be found there or it will look very...boring. And I don't know how to make a template where you can put in a picture and list info on the area like in Mystery Dungeon. Anyway, I'll continue to create the base pages to complete a skeleton of the areas and then I'll help out when the templates have been installed. ----Sparen (talk) 20:48, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

App

Could it be possible for Bulbapedia to be an I-Pod app? It would be so cool if it were. ----Lugia1999

No. There was one planned, but since Nintendo has removed other, similar apps from the app stores, it will not be done, as Nintendo is treating it as copyright infringement. Further reasoning for why it will not happen can be found here. Werdnae (talk) 05:49, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Not even the Admins can take 5 minutes out of their busy day and press a few buttons to welcome people, or are we doing away with the welcome template all together. But everyone seems to be welcomed within the day so...Oh yeah, this just made me remember something... if anyone is wondering if this task could be automated, it had been discussed in a way here - Vhayes1992 01:24, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Also, the "dozen halfway" may have a reason why they don't have welcome templates, as they may be banned.--ForceFire 02:10, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
The automation thing has been discussed much more recently elsewhere, and it's gerenally agreed in those conversations that a) it's more friendly if a person does it and b) it gives them someone to go to for help, who at the very least knows enough to know about welcomes. Felines introduced each region...

I noticed... From the start itself, each generation has introduced a feline-like Pokemon, all belonging to a two stage evolutionary line. ( Although when Sneasel was introduced, it didn't have an evolution prior to Generation IV, but it still counts, right?) This is what I've discovered: Meowth and Persian were introduced during Generation I, Sneasel was introduced during Generation II, Skitty and Delcatty were introduced too for Generation III. Glameow and Purugly belong to Generation IV (And this is where Sneasel qualifies, because Weavile is introduced.) and obviously Purrloin and Liepard were introduced during Generation V. Interesting isn't it? Just like the electric rodents ALSO introduced each generation. (Pikachu, Pichu, Plusle and Minun, Pachirisu, and Emolga) This is the same except it they are all under a 2 stage evolutionary line too. PokePuncherPal12 06:30, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Just wondering, does anyone know where the claim "It took top professors over three years to fully understand my composition" came from regarding Magnemite? I haven't seen it in any section on Magnemite's article, and I didn't see it in the Magnemite Pokédex entries, either...Fenyx4 20:47, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Magnemite was Electric in Gen I, and then they added Steel in Gen II. It was 3+ years between each game (it all depends on if you count the Jp or U.S. release) until top professors figured it out. Cry lengths of Pokémon

Would it be possible for a page listing Pokémon by the length of their cries? I am curious which has the longest and shortest cries, and this website does not yet list Pokémon in such a manner. - unsigned comment from Squirrelfeet (talkcontribs)

The Pokédex in Black & White shows how long the cries are; I would catalog it here, but I don't have a full Pokédex. Peanut64

New Article for Battle things

Certain aspects of the game that have always confused me a bit are the phrases that appear during battle such as "But it failed", or "It doesn't affect __" (which I've discovered is actually different from "It didn't affect ___"). "But it missed" is simple enough, but there are other which I don't understand. I do not know the details personally, but I would find the info very useful, so I am requesting someone to create an article which explains what all of those things that appear in a battle actually mean.--Coin945 03:22, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

"But it failed" is usually the Non-damaging version of "But it missed", which can be either Physical or Special. Not affecting a Pokémon refers to an immunity, for example Ground-types are immune to Electric-type attacks, and so on. An immunity can also be based on an ability, such as a Pokémon with Insomnia will not be able to fall asleep. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 03:31, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. That makes it much more clear :D However, whilst playing Crystal (the one I'm playing at the moment), I swear that sometimes, even if the pokemon is not immune to the move, it will still say "it didn't affect", and I don't know why... doesn't implies that is never affects it, but when it says didn't it sounds like it means the same thing at but it failed.--Coin945 06:46, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
