Baton Pass (Japanese: バトンタッチ Baton Touch) is a non-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation II.
Effect
Generation II to IV
Baton Pass switches out the user, passing all temporary stats increases and decreases on to the Pokémon that replaces it in battle. Even moves that ensure hits such as Lock-On are passed. Substitutes; volatile battle status ailments such as Confusion, Aqua Ring, Ingrain; and the effects of moves that prevent ordinary switching (e.g., Mean Look) can also be passed.
No matter what type of Poké Ball the user was captured in, the animation will always display a normal Poké Ball.
Baton Pass will not trigger Pursuit.
Generation V
The effects of moves that prevent ordinary switching, such as Mean Look, are no longer passed on to the incoming Pokémon.
The correct type of Poké Ball the user was caught with is now displayed in the animation.
Mystery Dungeon
Baton Pass makes the user switch places with another Pokémon in the room.
