Spinda (Japanese: パッチール Patcheel) is a Normal-type Pokémon.
While it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon, the placement of its spots is unique to each individual Spinda. Its spots have over four billion possible combinations and are determined by its personality value.
Biology
Physiology
Spinda resembles a small, upright panda with rabbit-like features. Its head is almost as large as its body, and it is almost always seen sporting a smile. Its eyes are made up of two black spirals, not unlike the spirals seen on the Poliwag family, which point in the opposite direction to each other, with a similar pattern on its ears. Spinda has four spots, which can appear anywhere on its face and ears, with a fifth on the back of its head. It has small body with short stumpy arms and legs, similar to that of Plusle and Minun, and its coat is primarily cream in coloration. Its arms are red and it has a red stripe bordering along the bottom of its belly, as well as two small spots on the soles of its feet.
Gender differences
Although there is no specific difference among males and females, almost all Spinda look different anyway.
Special abilities
A handful of Spinda's attacks involve causing confusion, including the rarely seen Teeter Dance. Spinda can also use a handful of other Psychic attacks, such as the rarely seen Psycho Cut and Role Play. It is also capable of physical combat, such as using the elemental punches and Flail.
Spinda can either have the Own Tempo Ability or the Tangled Feet Ability.
Behavior
Spinda have the odd habit of staggering around when they walk. This makes them appear dizzy, but they are not. The teetering walk helps to confuse enemies and potential predators, messing up their aim.
Habitat
They can usually be found in or near mountain areas such as Route 113 and Route 227.

NPC appearances
- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: One day, a Spinda appears in Pokémon Square and collapses. When it regains consciousness, Spinda explains that it is giving up a long journey to find the Mirage Pokémon and hands its one clue, the Clear Wing, to the player. The player must then solve the Mystery of the Mirage Pokémon, which will reward him or her with the Rainbow Wing. Upon showing the Rainbow Wing to Spinda, it becomes happy and leaves Pokémon Square.
- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky: Spinda runs Spinda's café and takes over the juice bar. A Wynaut and a Wobbuffet also work at the café running the recycle shop. Later in the game, Project P is introduced. After it is introduced, occasionally when speaking to Wynaut the player may gain access to a dungeon normally accessed by selecting a job with ??? as the location or get a choice of more items in the recycle shop.

Trivia
- Several of Spinda's moves focus on confusing opponents. Spinda's natural Abilities also focus on confusion.
- Spinda is the only non-Flying type that can have Tangled Feet as an Ability.
- A Spinda's spot pattern is determined by its personality value, meaning that there can be exactly 4,294,967,296 (232) different variations of Spinda, or double that number if Shiny Spinda are considered different variations.
- This fact is referred to by Spinda's HeartGold and SoulSilver Pokédex entry.
- Any of these spot patterns could also be Shiny—this raises the total to a massive 8,589,934,592 possibilities for its appearance. However, only 524,288 of these Shiny patterns are available on each individual game—Shininess is partially determined by the original Trainer's ID and SID, meaning that every game has a different set of patterns that can be Shiny. This Shininess is retained when traded, however, like any Pokémon.
- In Pokémon Battle Revolution, Toxic is depicted as two purple orbs spinning around each other towards the target. However, when Spinda uses Toxic, the orbs travel erratically. The same animation is used for Carnivine.
- Spinda is remarkably light for its size; it is half a meter taller than Skitty, yet less than half the weight.
Origin
Spinda's body structure is based on the panda with elongated rabbit ears. The different spot patterns as well as its general color scheme may be a reference to red pandas, which also have their own unique markings.
Name origin
Spinda is a combination of spin (referring to its twirly eyes and ears) and panda.
Patcheel is a combination of patch or patchwork—referring to its appearance—and 拈くる hinekuru (to twirl or spin).
