NOTE: Super Smash Bros. Brawl has yet to be released. Both the template and the page needs to be updated if the blog reveals more Pokémon information.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the third installment of the Super Smash Bros. series, set to be released on the Wii in 2007. As with previous installments, characters from various Nintendo video games will do battle with each other. The game will allow the use of the Nintendo GameCube controller, the Wii Remote alone, the Nunchuck + Remote control scheme, and the Wii Classic Controller. Characters from outside of Nintendo's realm of control (the only confirmed one of which is Solid Snake) have also been slated to appear in the game.
Several game mechanics are being introduced in this sequel, like the ability to crawl, the existence of containers with wheels, and the ability of each character to perform an unusually powerful signature move called Final Smash.
Pikachu is the only returning playable Pokémon confirmed to appear in the game thus far, though more are expected to be revealed nearer the release. In addition to returning moves seen in screenshots, Volt Tackle has been confirmed as its Final Smash move.
A Pokémon Trainer has been revealed as a new selectable character. The character design is based on the Generation III Red. He battles with Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard, which he cycles through in that order with his Down Special move, Pokémon Change. A first for the series, he only appears in the background, throws Poké Balls and gives his Pokémon, the actual fighters, commands. Squirtle knows Waterfall and Withdraw, Ivysaur knows Bullet Seed and Vine Whip, and Charizard knows Flamethrower and Rock Smash. In addition, Charizard has the ability to glide.
The Poké Ball has been confirmed as an item, which is likely to result in the debut of many Generation III and Generation IV Pokémon to the series.
