Petal Dance (Japanese: はなびらのまい Petal Dance) is a damage-dealing Grass-type move introduced in Generation I. It was the signature move of Oddish and Gloom in that Generation.

Effect

Generation I

Petal Dance inflicts damage for 3 to 4 turns (chosen at random). Once selected, even if it misses, the user will only be able to use Petal Dance, and will not be able to switch out. At the end of this duration, the user will become confused.

If the Petal Dance duration is disrupted, such as by full paralysis or by hurting itself due to confusion, it will immediately end. The user will only become confused if Petal Dance is fully executed, without its duration being disrupted. Sleep, freeze, partial trapping, and flinching will pause but not disrupt the duration of Petal Dance.

In Stadium, after the duration of Petal Dance ends, there will be a notice that the user becomes confused.

This move has a power of 70 and has 20 PP.

Generation II

The duration of Petal Dance is decreased to 2-3 turns.

Generation III

The move remains the same. However, in Double Battles its target is a randomly selected enemy.

Generation IV

The power of Petal Dance increases to 90. All other effects are the same.

Generation V

The power of Petal Dance increases to 120, and its PP is reduced to 10. All other effects are the same.

In Pokémon Conquest, the user attacks the target two to three times. The user cannot move for one turn afterward.
