Cascoon (Japanese: マユルド Mayuld) is a Bug-type Pokémon.
It evolves from Wurmple depending on its personality value, starting at level 7, and it evolves into Dustox starting at level 10.
Biology
Cascoon is a cocoon-like Pokémon with a purple body, two red eyes, and spiky limbs. It has a tough cocoon that is able to endure attacks, and it will not move even when it is attacked. However, it never forgets the pain endures. The inside of the cocoon is hot. It lives in forests. It hides motionless underneath large leaves and inside the gaps of tree branches. It camouflages itself by attaching dead leaves to its body. Even when attacked it remains motionless.
In the anime
Major appearances
Jessie's Wurmple evolved into Cascoon in A Corphish out of Water. However, Jessie thought it was a Silcoon. As a result, James and Meowth were worried that Jessie would be furious when Cascoon evolved into Dustox.

If it is attacked, Cascoon remains motionless however badly it may be hurt. It does so because if it were to move, its body would be weak upon evolution. This Pokémon will also not forget the pain it endured.

Trivia
- Cascoon shares the same species name with Metapod, Kakuna, and Silcoon. They are all known as the Cocoon Pokémon.
- Cascoon is tied with them as the weakest evolved Pokémon in the games, by average base stats.
- Cascoon and Silcoon have the exact same base stats.
- Cascoon, along with Silcoon, can be seen without the limb protrusions on the body in the anime, Pokémon X and Y and occasionally in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
- However, James's cards containing info about Pokémon showed that Silcoon and Cascoon have those limbs.
- Cascoon is the only Bug-type cocoon-based Pokémon whose Defense stat does not decrease upon evolution.
- Cascoon is the only Pokemon that is found in a Friend Safari that is not its own Type, it is found in the Poison-Type Friend Safari, even though Cascoon is pure Bug. However, it does evolve into the Poison-type Dustox.
Origin
Cascoon is based on the chrysalis or cocoon stage of a butterfly or moth.
Name origin
Cascoon may be a combination of cask (a container, often cylindrical) and cocoon. It could also derive from cast, a shell meant for immobilizing part of the body or the method of creating said shell.
Mayuld is a combination of 繭 mayu (cocoon) and shield.
