Salamence are fully formed quadrapedal dragons, complete with newly grown wings.

Behavior
Salamence is an extremely vicious Pokémon. It is also arrogant, putting on airs their victories by spouting intense flames into the air. This behavior may be explained due to the fact that it faced many hardships to get its wings grow, and therefore, it is very proud of its achievement.
Habitat
Salamence supposedly lives atop tall mountains.
In the anime
Salamence was first seen in the 6th Pokémon movie: Jirachi: Wish Maker. Butler used it against a wild Flygon that was helping to free Jirachi from him.
Silver used his Salamence to battle Moltres in The Search for the Legend.
Drake of the Elite Four uses a Salamence in Vanity Affair.
Team Rocket found a Salamence in some underground ruins when they were searching for Ho-Oh in Battling the Enemy Within.
A Salamence belonging to J appeared in Mutiny in the Bounty. When a Pokemon is detected worth alot, she rides on it to get there and back to her ship.

- Because of its very superior stats, Salamence is a widely used Pokémon in competitive battling. Its stats are fairly similar to Dragonite's, with Dragonite having lower Speed but higher defensive stats.
Origin
Salamence appears to be based on European dragons. It also resembles Devilman with his peculiar wings.
Name origin
Its name may be a combination of salamander and menace. Its Japanese name is also based on salamander.
