Bea is the fourth Gym Leader Galarian Trainers face in their Gym Challenge in Pokémon Sword. Bea is the known as the Galar karate prodigy, having inherited the centuries-old traditions and techniques from her parents.[1] She is also an expert on Fighting-type Pokémon. From a young age, Bea rigorously trained with her Pokémon under the watchful - and strict - eye of her parents. As a result, she developed a stoic personality that perseveres even during dire situations in Pokémon battles. She tries her best to go all out, even when defeat seems imminent. Many believe she has lost the ability to experience emotions, but truthfully, she doesn't want to show any weakness. In battle, though, Bea will sometimes reveal her true feelings to the partner Pokémon she knows and trusts. She also has a secret love of various sweets. However, she has a hard time enjoying them due to the attention from her fans.
League Cards
This is a transcript of the back of Bea's League Cards in Pokémon Sword.
- Normal League Card
- "Given special attention from her parents, Bea trained hard with her partner Pokémon since a very young age. This has honed her judgment skills, and she is able to remain calm and collected even when facing dire situations in battle. This leads many to think she lacks emotion, but the truth seems to be that she doesn't want to show weakness. She is sometimes known to show her true feelings to her partner Pokémon during battles. She is secretly a huge fan of various sweets, and this has recently been found out by her fans. The additional attention has made enjoying sweets a little difficult."
- Rare League Card
- "In order to become strong, one must face opponents who are stronger than oneself. Even if defeat seems inevitable, Bea will still go all out and try to at least draw. It's possible that the strict (one might even say too strict) training from her stern parents has left a burden on young Bea, taking away her smile. So, who has seen Bea smile? Her family? Her Pokémon? Or maybe someone else entirely..."
Pokémon
Bea keeps her Pokémon in Ultra Balls.

- "Do you have an unshakable spirit that won’t be moved, no matter how you are attacked? I think I’ll just test that out, shall I?"
- Upon sending out final Pokémon
- "It’s time to dig in our heels! I’m not giving up, so neither should you!"
- Upon activating Gigantamax
- "Argh! Fine then, let’s just destroy everything! Your skill is worthy of respect—and Gigantamaxing!"

- Upon being defeated
- "I felt the fighting spirit of your Pokémon as you led it/them in battle."
- After being defeated
- "Thank you for the battle."
- "Phew... Facing you gave me all the explanation I needed."
- "Battling against you and your team... I hadn’t expected it, but it made my heart dance. It’s good to be unshakable in the face of battle. But it’s good to be moved by battle, as well."
- "Thank you again. Take the Fighting Badge."
- "I hope that you’ll meet many more Trainers and have many more matches in the future. And I hope that every one of those encounters will nourish your spirit."
- Wyndon Stadium (Champion Cup Locker Room)
- "My heart is racing a bit, but I still can't wait for the match to begin!"
- Wyndon Stadium (Champion Cup Finals)
- Upon facing her
- "I promise you, my attacks will shake your very soul this time."

- "Your strength nearly made me want to turn and run in my bare feet!"
- After being defeated
- "Thank you for a wonderful match. I really enjoyed battling you and your team. I'm upset that I lost, but I also feel so satisfied and so refreshed. In a way, I guess you could say it was the best sort of match anyone could ever hope for. I hope that you'll meet many more trainers and have many more matches in the future. And I hope that every one of those encounters will nourish your spirit."
- During the post-game
- Stow-on-Side Stadium (Sordward and Shielbert)
- "You all! Did you come to lend us a hand?"
- "We just finished getting everyone to safety, so I was about to challenge the Dynamax Pokémon..."
- "I give you my most heartfelt thanks! We got several opponents, so we may as well take one each. I'll be counting on you all! Here we go!"
- After defeating Dynamax Conkeldurr
- "I can't thank you all enough. With your help, the Dynamax Pokémon have all been returned to normal. I'll keep them safe here in the stadium, so no need to worry, [player]. Next time, I'll be the one who saves you in your hour of need. Give me a call if you're ever in a rough spot."
- After receiving her rare league card
- "If there are other places that need a Champion's help, please go look after them. I'll protect the peace of Stow-on-Side Stadium with all my might."
- Wyndon Stadium (Champion Cup Rematch)
- Before battle
- "Focusing too much on winning can cause one to make mistakes. I will face you with a clear head!"
- Upon being defeated
- "Your Pokémon... they're so strong, they're practically dizzying!"
- After being defeated
- "I want to achieve so many different things during battles. It's hard to decide sometimes... I still have much to learn."
- Isle of Armor Random Encounters
- When first spoken to
- "Oh, <player>! Here for some secret training?"
- "Becoming Champion hasn't stopped you putting in the effort, I see. I'll have to stay just as motivated with Machamp and the rest of my team."
- If found in Fields of Honor
- "There's a man who was a legendary Fighting-type Gym Leader in his day living on this island. But I'm too intimidated to actually try to go and meet the legend in the flesh..."
- If found in Forest of Focus
- "You never quite know when an Emolga might swoop down... It's difficult to plan your counter for such an unpredictable Pokémon."
- If found on Challenge Road
- "This area reminds me of Stow-on-Side... Thinking all of the members of the Fighting Gym back home spurs me to train all the harder!"
- If found in Courageous Cavern
- "Going barefoot makes it more effective when you need to dig in your heels and stand firm. I suspect that's why Machamp always goes barefoot as well!"
- If found on Challenge Beach or Training Lowlands
- "I find swimming can be very effective when I want to build strength. That means Nessa must be getting quite a lot of training in every day!"
- If found in Potbottom Desert
- "Doesn't the layout of this area remind you of a pitch surrounded by spectators' seats? It's helpful for visualizing a real battle scenario."
- During harsh sunlight or clear skies
- "It feels to me like training in harsher weather is more effective than on mild days like this. On the other hand, at least my bare feet get less muddy when it's nice and clear."
- During overcast conditions
- "When my thoughts get as murky and gloomy as the sky is right now, sparring with Machamp clears the clouds straight from my mind."
- During rain or thunderstorms
- "No matter how hard the rain pummels you, you've got to keep swinging those fists! You must believe that every punch drives you one step closer to victory!"
- During a sandstorm
- "This sandstorm is nothing to me. It's about as scary as the attack Splash! Not that I'm trying to pick a fight with Nessa..."
- During foggy conditions
- "Even if you can't see your opponent, you can still sense their presence with your mind’s eye. Being stuck in a bank of thick fog is perfect training for this skill."

In the anime
In the main series
Bea made her main series debut in Solitary and Menacing!. She first battled the Karate Master at the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City and won. Soon after, she was challenged to a World Coronation Series battle by Ash and had a two-on-two battle with him. She used her Hawlucha and Grapploct to battle Farfetch'd and Riolu and emerged victorious without losing a single Pokémon, causing her rank to go up.
Bea reappeared in a flashback in Making Battles in the Sand!.
Bea reappeared in JN039, where she was training at the Cianwood Gym with Chuck when she received a challenge to a rematch from Ash. Bea accepted, using her Hitmontop and Grapploct to battle Pikachu and Riolu. The battle ended with a draw.
Character
Bea has a strong and confident personality, having been trained in Galar karate by her father since she was young. While she shows proper discipline and etiquette in battle, Bea speaks frankly and directly, calling Korrina "weak" and pointing out Ash's openings as she sees them. Extremely powerful, Bea was able to defeat other Fighting-type experts like Korrina and the Kanto Fighting Dojo Karate Master. Like Ash, Bea aims to win against Leon in the World Coronation Series, in order to prove herself as the strongest Trainer in the world.
However, Bea is revealed to be less hardened outside of battle, and she appears to have acknowledged Ash and his Riolu as rivals after they battled to a draw in JN039. Like in the games, Bea has a hidden love of sweets, gladly eating Chuck's complementary sweets with her Pokémon and sharing it with Ash's own Pokémon as well.

In Pokémon: Twilight Wings
Bea briefly debuted in Letter, where she battled Leon in a Pokémon League tournament and lost, this specific battle is the starting point for several events shown in the series. She was later seen on a mountain with a Rhydon.
In Training, Bea was revealed to have traveled to the Wild Area to train after her loss to Leon. She and her Pokémon eventually got trapped in a cave while taking shelter from rain, but they later managed to find another exit.
In Buddy, Hop watched her match with Leon on television. In Sky, she gave her thoughts about Leon in an interview.
In The Gathering of Stars, she was seen eating in a café with her Machop and two Lasses after receiving an invitation letter for the Galarian Star Tournament. She was later seen at Wyndon Stadium, walking out onto the field for the tournament's opening ceremony.
Character
Bea has a strong personality, and she hates losing. Through the strict training she endured from a very young age, Bea has developed discipline and a strong work ethic in both karate and Pokémon battles. She is also willing to push herself to the extreme in the name of self-betterment and improvement and expects the same of her Pokémon, but isn't above admitting she went too far if necessary. She has a soft spot for sweets and, though concealing her emotions during matches, feels strongly about many things and is known to show a more open side to her partner Pokémon.
