History

A young Korrina

Pre-series

Korrina is a descendant of the first people who managed to make a Lucario reach Mega Evolution. During her childhood, Korrina was always very close to her Riolu, even after it evolved into a Lucario.

Pokémon the Series: XY

Korrina debuted in Mega Revelations!. She appeared before Ash and his friends, aiming to claim her 99th successive victory, eagerly challenging Ash to a battle. In the end, her Lucario easily defeated Ash's Pikachu, and the group decided to have a lunch together, during which Bonnie noticed Korrina's Key Stone. She revealed that she had received it from her grandfather. However, she was still lacking the Mega Stone to Mega Evolve her Lucario. After the group had saved Pikachu and Lucario from Team Rocket, Ash and his friends decided to join Korrina on her hunt for Lucarionite.

Korrina and Lucario

In The Cave of Trials!, Korrina, along with Ash and his friends, arrived in Geosenge Town. There, they met a photographer named McGinty, who gave them a hint of going to a nearby mountain. On the mountain, the group discovered a cave, where the Lucarionite was hidden. Protecting the Mega Stone, however, was a Blaziken, whom Korrina had to battle. Due to Blaziken having a type advantage over Lucario, Korrina was initially losing, but thanks to Ash and friends' encouragements, Korrina and Lucario were able to rise from the brink of defeat and immobilize Blaziken with Bone Rush. Just when Lucario was about to finish the battle, Korrina's grandfather, Gurkinn, came out of the shadows, admitting his defeat and allowing Korrina to take the Lucarionite. With the proper Mega Stone finally in her hands, Korrina started her Lucario's very first Mega Evolution.

In The Aura Storm!, after Lucario's first Mega Evolution, Korrina agreed to have a battle with Ash and Pikachu to test her Mega Evolved Pokémon's powers. However, during the battle, Lucario lost control, and it was only stopped from attacking Ash along with Pikachu by Gurkinn's own Lucario. Gurkinn explained that Lucario couldn't control its increased Aura powers after Mega Evolving, which was why it went berserk. Korrina then had another battle with her Lucario, this time against Gurkinn's own Mega Lucario. However, Korrina's Lucario lost control of itself again soon after Mega Evolving, and Gurkinn won the battle. Afterwards, Gurkinn sent Korrina and Lucario to Pomace Mountain to get help from a Mega Evolution Trainer.

In The Bonds of Mega Evolution!, Korrina arrived at Mabel's manor on Pomace Mountain. Mabel challenged Korrina and Lucario to battle her Mega Mawile, but Lucario was defeated when it lost control of its Mega Evolved form. Mabel then had Korrina and Lucario arrange flowers together so they could bring each other's differing viewpoints together and transform it into strength, with their hearts acting as one. When Team Rocket stole Pikachu and Mawile, Mega Lucario was used to rescue them, but it went out of control again. However, the dilemma was solved when Korrina convinced it to listen to her and control its Aura. Lucario subsequently freed Pikachu and Mawile by knocking Pumpkaboo into Team Rocket's balloon with Bone Rush. In the process, Lucario learnt a new move, Aura Sphere, and finished the fight by using it on Team Rocket's balloon. Although Ash and Korrina were both heading toward the Shalour Gym for their Gym battle, Ash said he needed to train his Pokémon more, and Korrina split off from the group.

Korrina reappeared in Ash's flashback in Summer of Discovery!.

Korrina and Ash

In Origins of Mega Evolution!, Korrina met up with Ash and his friends when they arrived in Shalour City. Korrina revealed that she had been training for the battle between them ever since her trip with Ash. While they wait for the match to start, Korrina watched the training session Ash specifically prepared for the battle. When they reached the Tower of Mastery, where the Gym was located, Gurkinn recounted to Korrina and the others a story about the origins of Mega Evolution. Later, during the night, Team Rocket broke into the Gym and stole the Book of Secrets, but Korrina and Ash intervened and managed to retrieve it. In the end, Gurkinn revealed the book was something completely different from what Korrina and the others had thought.

In the following episode, Korrina and Ash had their Gym battle at the Shalour Gym. At first, Ash attempted to copy Tierno's dancing battle strategies from the Pokémon Summer Camp, but wasn't successful. After switching back to his own style of battling, Ash proceeded to defeat both Korrina's Mienfoo and Machoke with Hawlucha and Fletchinder, respectively. Determined to still win, Korrina sent out Lucario and immediately Mega Evolved it. With this power boost, Lucario was easily able to beat Fletchinder and Hawlucha, leaving Ash with just his last Pokémon, Pikachu. Mega Lucario's overwhelming power gave Pikachu a lot of trouble, but eventually, after a fierce exchange of attacks, Pikachu was able to defeat Mega Lucario and win the match for Ash, thus earning him the Rumble Badge. She then told him that the next Gym was in Coumarine City, and that the next Gym Leader was eccentric, but she believed Ash could help sort him out.

Korrina reappeared in Clemont's flashback in The Future Is Now, Thanks to Determination!. She also made brief appearances in Master Class is in Session! and Performing a Pathway to the Future!, where she was seen watching the Gloire Master Class Showcase alongside her Lucario and Gurkinn.

In Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, Korrina was seen battling Alain and his Mega Charizard X with her Mega Lucario. The result of that battle was shown at the end of A Diamond in the Rough!, where she and Lucario were revealed to have lost. Afterwards, Korrina gave him his eighth Badge, thus making Alain eligible to participate in the Lumiose Conference. Upon receiving the Badge, Alain informed Korrina that he wanted to join the League to face a powerful adversary.

Korrina appeared in a fantasy in A League of His Own!, when Ash was talking to Everett about the Gym Leaders that he had defeated in Kalos, in order for him to be able to compete in the Lumiose Conference.

In A Towering Takeover!, Korrina was watching Lysandre's broadcast during Team Flare's attack in Lumiose City.

In Rocking Kalos Defenses! and Forming a More Perfect Union!, Korrina joined the Kalos Gym Leaders in the fight to destroy the Giant Rock. During the encounter with Ash and his friends, she discovers what Ash's Froakie has evolved into - a Greninja capable of becoming Ash-Greninja thanks to the Bond Phenomenon. During the confrontation, Korrina and Lucario tried to pave the way for Ash and Alain to rescue Chespie, who was being used as the Giant Rock's power source, but they were easily defeated. When the battle ended with Lysandre's defeat, she and the others got together to say goodbye to Squishy.

Korrina reappeared in a flashback in Till We Compete Again!.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series

In A Festival Reunion!, Korrina attended the Battle Festival Challenge and revealed she was competing in the World Coronation Series, being in the Normal Class. She then introduced herself to Ash's Pokémon, especially Riolu, who began idolizing her Lucario. Korrina also revealed to Ash that she and Lucario had been training with the aim of battling Leon in the finals.

Both of them then decided to have a rematch. Korrina started off with her Mienshao, which went up against Ash's Gengar, but it was exchanged with Lucario in the middle of the battle, resulting in Gengar's defeat. When Mienshao is defeated by Dragonite, Lucario went up against Dragonite next, and despite Korrina Mega Evolving Lucario, Dragonite emerged victorious. Following her defeat, she apologized to Riolu for not winning with Lucario. Afterwards, Ash and Korrina said goodbye, and she promised to meet up with them again.

She and her Mega Lucario appeared during a flashback in Solitary and Menacing!, where Bea revealed that she defeated Korrina in a previous battle.

Korrina and Bea

In An Adventure of Mega Proportions!, during a Gym battle, Korrina was visited by Ash and Goh. The former then explained that he was after getting what he needed to Mega Evolve his Lucario and Korrina gave him a Mega Glove. After Lucario senses the presence of a Mega Stone, the group decided to head towards Mega Island. Upon arriving, Korrina and Ash ended up separating from Goh and Lucario, which maked Ash try to locate himself through his Pokémon's Aura. Upon reuniting, they finally found the Mega Stone they were looking for, but Gurkinn challenged Ash to determine who the Lucarionite will belong to. When Ash managed to win the battle, Korrina congratulated him on the victory. As they headed home, Korrina was surprised to discover that Ash's next opponent in the World Coronation Series would be Bea.

In Battle Three With Bea! and A Battle of Mega Versus Max!, Korrina traveled to Stow-on-Side to watch Ash and Bea's battle. On the day before the battle, she shared some sweets she had brought from Kalos with Ash, Goh, and Bea. The next day, she joined Goh in the crowd, cheering for both Ash and Bea equally.

In Toying With Your Motions!, Korrina watched Ash's match against Leon alongside Bea and Gurkinn.

Character

Korrina and her friends

During the course of Pokémon the Series: XY, Korrina was one of the Kalos Gym Leaders who grew the most as a person. Initially, she was very hyperactive and didn't know how to deal with Mega Evolution. After much training and battles, Korrina managed to create the necessary bond to control Lucario in its most powerful form. Her relationship with Lucario from the beginning was very intimate, to the point of being almost like siblings in battle, and where she could feel its presence even at a distance.

Due to her personality, Korrina became quite friendly with Ash and his friends. During the time they spent together, this friendship became quite strong between the group.

In Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Korrina showed a deep interest in Ash's Riolu. During her battle with Ash, Korrina was seen seeking the Emanation Pokémon's approval. Although she was defeated, Riolu was very impressed with her Lucario's power. After Ash's Riolu evolved, Korrina helped Ash and Lucario obtain a Lucarionite for themselves just as Ash did for her during his journey in Kalos. She is also revealed to be friends and rivals with Bea, both sharing interest in Fighting-type Pokémon and sweets. While Ash and Goh initially mistook their relationship for a more unfriendly rivalry, Korrina insisted that was just Bea being herself.
