What the Heck?!?!?
OK the people who talk about gltiches sound very fake. first of all,
Missingno. dude, everyone knows you lie. I used to have Blue; I caught Missingo.,'M and lowercase a and had no promblems with the game or Pokémon stats!! Graphics were a promblem but they were fixed!!!!!!!!!
second of all, Diamond boy no one likes your little fake δ♪♂×♀!!! Nobody's laughing!!
Sorry if this offends. Never mind, I hope this DOES offend you so you'll no longer lie!!!
Sorry a bout my temper to everyone else.

Well it gets on my nerves when I have to hear about someone catching Flootenkerp , or ♫♂♥♂×♫ or Missingno. that changes the way the game is other than the graphics!!!!!! ITS ALL FAKE!!!! you have to be an idiot not to relize that. P.S. It was necessary to yell at stupid people. And again sorry you all had to read that unless you make up crap like that!! --File:Ani018MS.gifMoisesmoralesFile:Ani235MS.gif 17:41, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
I didn't even catch Missingno. and my pokemon league info is all effed up.

Captures
Last year someone reported on the front page that Happiny and Buizel were joining the team, so why hasn't anyone reported that Gliscor and Swinub will?
HoennMaster 07:26 PM (CST) March 23, 2008.
Umm...last year it showed those two with the trainers and their other pokemon, and this year it shows Gliscor and Swinub with the trainers and pokemon. It's pretty obvious they are joining the team as Gligar is missing and a Gliscor is there.
- Last year, plot-spoiling Japan was considered the norm around here. That practice was pretty much stopped when the Cacnea debacle hit, and ever since then, anything not 100% confirmed posed as such gets reverted even if evidence points to it (such as Aipom's evolution in DP060). As such, we're assuming that the Gliscor and Swinub in the previews are unrelated to the group until and unless episodes prove otherwise. This way, we avoid another incident like the Cacnea debacle. --Shiningpikablu252 03:37, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Notice should be put up?
That no users can edit their pages until this testing is finished? Because I mean, well.. yeah. Everyone seems to be freaking out and not really noticing that other users have been asking the same question and are getting the same answer, but eh, that's just me. Tina δ♫ 20:26, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

- Take a look at my contibutions. Do you think I visit Bulbapedia just to edit the Pokémon articles? No. I like to edit my User Page more than anything. Then I whine and complain until people look at it and sign their name under the "People Who Just Wasted A Few Minutes Of Their Life" heading. --Deadlymethane
- Not to mention how much of a community Bulbapedia is- there is no denying how much it helps pokemon game players meet other fans of the game for trades, battles, etc. Just because it's main purpose is to inform people about the game, dosen't mean that it shouldn't also serve as a platform to boost the quality of Pokémon gameplay. It's a community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Without the community its just not the same. Not to mention editing one's userspace is good practice for editing other pages. i learned all i know about code writing just messing around with my myspace, and since wiki pages use a very different code, i need some way to learn withought messing up a well-written article.
- If you hit "Show Preview" instead of "Save Page", you can test coding on any page you like... just don't save it, so when you're done, it goes right back to normal. That's how I learned a lot of my coding. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.> 07:46, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Might I just remind everyone that we do have a dedicated forum, accessable at at bmgf.bulbagarden.net, which would be a more suitable location (and less stress on the server) for the community to get together than using the User namespace.
- Right now, we have a serious issue with the server that needs to be addressed, and we're doing all we can to reduce load. The excessive use of the User namespace for frivolous things that really belong on the forums, and the excessive user of templates for peoples signatures here (using templates means more database accesses, meaning more load, so please use only small non-template signatures!), while not the only problems, appear to have greatly contributed to the issue. --Archaic 00:59, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- A lot of the stuff I know about Pokémon comes from Bulba, and the rest is already posted here, so I can only really make contribs to talks at this point. A lot of people are probably in a similar situation, leading to the overwhelming Userpage edits you mentioned. - Of course, the danger for you all now is that this could turn into something not a joke. Getting people off those user pages for a day apparently made a massive difference in terms of server load. And by massive, I mean that at our usual peak load times, instead of having load values of 50+, we had single digit load. It's probably the first peak period in months that the server didn't crash. If the user pages really are the cause, we're going to have to do something to drastically reduce the amount of abuse they're getting. --Archaic 23:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- First of all, Archaic has a point. This is a Pokémon wiki, not a MySpace or Facebook page. - And re: what Archaic said before, if that's true, and it dropped off that much, how many people (members and visitors) would we lose? I mean, the site's great, but the userpages give it personality. Seriously, people are drawn in by the articles, but the pages give them something Poké-related to entertain, free and almost alive in and of itself. Think about how many people would come on if there were just information. A lot less. -Theininen 01:37, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Userpages give something to do while waiting for new information to post, otherwise people wouldn't even bother going the site half the time. - Exactly, no one really pays attention to the whole reason why Bulbapedia exists-- not for the userpages and the neat things you can put on there, but the actual content. - Exactly2 (the sequel?). i dont really do stubs for the same reason, i just meander around and keep things looking fresh. ive also got personal projects, like my TM pages project which turned all the TM pages from redirects to the (oh so wonderful) TM page, to individual pages in their own right. furthermore, ive heard people say they dont have anything to do. boy howdy, i was on Walrein's page, and IT DOESNT EVEN HAVE GEN IV INFO ON IT!! it is on my list of things to do (but, ill need some time to set aside for it) but that being said, there is stuff to do, and you are more than welcome to tackle that job. -- MAGNEDETH 02:25, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- I have said before (somewhere) that a lot of what people know about Pokémon is from this site, and most of the rest is already posted. Userpages give something to do while waiting for new information to post, otherwise people wouldn't even bother going the site half the time. It shouldn't be a blog, but the pages keep people busy for a bit, until they can contribute otherwise. -Theininen 01:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- well, you guys could deal with it and not edit your userpages. it is a Wiki after all. did you not read the above comments by the Admins? -- MAGNEDETH 01:44, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Although the user pages are still in the database, I think the main point is that people are not editing or even looking at them now that they're somewhat harder to get to. - 振霖T 04:23, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Pow. 480+ articles need to be updated to the new movelist standards. Section headings need to be reduced. 500+ episodes need this done. Most also need synopses. Pages need to be made for the rest of the TCG cards; lists need to be updated. We have a lot to do, and the User: namespace is just getting in the way. Have you seen how much got done in the last week since we blocked editing in that namespace? It's beautiful. Bulbapedia's working again.
However, I don't think that the userspace should be blocked and blanked out permanently. That'd be stupid. We're gonna figure out what we're gonna do in the coming month, but mark my words, it won't be long before you can edit userspace again. It just won't be too much. TTEchidna 04:25, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I think the removing of user namespaces helped me out cuz if anyone checks my contributions page i think i have made over 70 edits to my own userpage and that's not good for the Bulba. So this is like a rehab for me. Boywonder01 21:00, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

In my opinion, the two should be considered equal!-- quoted by Missingno. Master 10:25, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Not really... It started last week. We'll give that ability back as soon as we've found a viable solution. If you wanna be the guy who patrols how many edits someone's making to their userspace compared to the mainspace, go on and tell us. Believe me, poring over RC is not fun when we gotta update a billion pages to Gen IV style (why have we not done that yet? Userpages!). TTEchidna 21:22, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Solving the Problem
the following conversation took place on TTEchidna's talk page, and was moved here due to relevence.
- I disagree with the conditions of the User Page removal. This may not be the place to gripe about it, but would it be possible to simply limit the number of edits users made in their namespace? To something like, say, twice-per-day? It's a really major change, and, although I'm really enjoying the increased server speed, it's not an all-around good thing. I'll probably get used to it, but it's not easy. --ニョロトノ666 01:41, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- i agree that the user space shouldnt be COMPLETELY banned. i support a limit of edits per day, but, is it possible to enforce it? also, it wouldnt really prevent people from abusing it. i was thinking a credit system where when you make so many main space edits, you get so many user space edits allowed. but thats probably even harder to enforce. -- MAGNEDETH 01:53, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- It's not a matter of enforcing it by simply stating it as a rule. The server would have to be configured to only allow a certain number of edits per day. --ニョロトノ666 01:56, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- well yea, thats exactly what i mean. enforce it, as in, make it impossible to break the rule via a server command (or whatever). the problem is, i dont know if that is technically possible. also, two edits a day is rather strict, maybe 5 or 10. but, if it were 2, it wouldnt bother me much. -- MAGNEDETH 02:01, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- It's not a matter of enforcing it by simply stating it as a rule. The server would have to be configured to only allow a certain number of edits per day. --ニョロトノ666 01:56, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
I support the userspace ban. It will probably weed out the people who were here just for the userspace. It's like a rehab for me. Boywonder01 01:59, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
I like the credit system that you proposed but like you said it would probably be hard to enforce Boywonder01 02:02, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Okay. It doesn't need to be enforced if it can't be done. I believe the server can be made to block a user if they try to edit their page more than x number of times per day. --ニョロトノ666 02:06, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, Banning from the site is a little too much if they are just editing their userspace. i say only if they do it a certain number of times in an hour, then they get banned for a certain number of hours from editing their userspace or something like that. Boywonder01 02:13, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- well, i was thinking more like "Stock" (think SSBB if you know of it) you use them up, and you are done for the day (User pages anyway) -- MAGNEDETH 02:20, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
that's a good idea, but you know a lot of people wouldn't like the credit system. They would complain and say something really stupid like "someone stole my credits" Boywonder01 02:32, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- well, its not really possible to steal credits. i think people would be more mad about: "i wuz like editing my user page and it um told me to not edit anymor! halp i need to finiish my page!!!!" -- MAGNEDETH 02:35, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
there would be a lot of people with complaints like that and this will probably be the most asked question of the hour "How do i get more credits?" and "if i edit my userpage does that count for me getting more credits?" Boywonder01 02:44, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- exactly. i just had a thought. i added 3,000+ chars to the Spheal (and evos), now, if that were to relate to ONE credit each? it would be a rather large jip. particularly, if i think that ONE edit would constitute a fraction of a credit. so, maybe fraction of a credit per edit, and an added bonus of so much credit-ness for how much you edit. ie: fixing spelling (+1) gives you a rather insignificant amount of credit, but, adding entire section to a page, (+3,000) gives you possibly a full credit per 1,000 chars? it may be tough to understand. i hope im making this clear. also, sorry TTE for messing about on your user page. in fact, i think im going to mive this over to "Talk:Main Page". done. -- MAGNEDETH 02:56, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think that if they had to make so few edits to their pages, it would teach them to use the preview button, a feature most users overlook! MoldyOrange 03:19, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I get what Magnedeth's saying. Something like that could work out. Personally, once I fix that one link, I probably won't use my page much. People should be able to use them on a basis of Main edit to user edit, but what about if, like Tina said above, we can't do a lot to improve stuff?... Still some bugs in that plan. -Theininen 03:25, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think that if they had to make so few edits to their pages, it would teach them to use the preview button, a feature most users overlook! MoldyOrange 03:19, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
That would work, but would the server automatically keep count of the amount of credits people earn? Boywonder01 03:47, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- well it would pretty much have to. in fact, it already does. its called the Bulbapedia:Top contributors of the month. (i did pretty good last month) in fact, that should be updating soon. im just not sure how it would all work. im not good with techno-babble. -- MAGNEDETH 03:52, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
It could be that for everytime you edit your namespace it's two credits and for every personal page you create it would be like 5 credits. Boywonder01 03:59, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- yea, that sounds easier than "fractions of a credit". but i cant help but think that creating a new page should actually cost more. maybe 10+. then again, were talking complete speculation and general idea tossing here. theres hardly a chance any of this will be adopted. -- MAGNEDETH 04:06, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

I honestly just like the limit idea. You can only edit your user page X times per day. It would encourage people to use the preview button. --Posted by Deadlymethane at 20:27, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- We're determining what X should be. Expect it following the 73rd element. TTEchidna 21:14, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- guess that means were going to wait a while, because were only on The Fifth Element... -- MAGNEDETH 03:41, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- By 73rd element, I'm guessing you don't mean Tantalum...
- I support the idea of a limit on userspace edits per day, but I think the limit should be fixed at some value for X. The idea of credits just doesn't jive with me. I mean, I just spent what must have been an hour working on a page, and the net change was -33 characters (because I was replacing links with templates, and so on). So how many credits would I get for a significant amount of toil? And how would you implement that, anyway? It seems like it'd be much easier to set X at three or four, rather than having to keep track of how many "credits" that user had.
- Oh, and because I'm petty, I'd also like to add that I'm not arguing for my sake here. I have edited my userspace in the past, but I'm not likely to do it much even after we're allowed to again, so whatever X is shouldn't affect me much. --MartonimosTalk 04:16, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't know about anyone else, but personally I'm just saying, "What the heck is going on?" -11manafreak7
First off Calm down, the reason behind the TEMPORARY BAN is because the server was being overloaded with so many userspace edits that nothing on the main space was getting done. The admins are working on the problem right now. Just have patience. Boywonder01 11:52, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

User pages
Isn't there a way that you can only permit 10 edits a day on user pages so this problem can be resolved? --☆ケンジガール 06:00, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. It's been a month! YinYang 06:39, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- The main problem being, there's no way to physically limit the number of edits per day, let alone to a specific namespace (as far as I've been able to dig up on MediaWiki). The limit would most likely need to be a policy, and in that case, would be extremely hard to enforce. At the very least though, I believe a message can be added to the edit screen on certain namespaces (User:, in this case), telling users to remember to use the Show Preview button, and keep total edits per day to about five (although technically, if you need to update your userpage more then twice a day, you're using it too much as it is).
- I assume it's just a few admins working on the details... but perhaps, if it's proving to be difficult to figure out, a page for suggestions could be set up (or a forum thread). I'm sure there's more then enough users here that could figure out a basic plan, at the least. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 07:19, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- We had a problem like this on Super Mario Wiki. We solved it by creating a Userpedia, a place for member to spam their happy little fancruft hearts out and limit the content of the main wikis userspace to general information. Even while we don't always enforce this, things are still under a reasonable amount of control. -- Chris201 18:46, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
You know, many MANY other wikis allow userspace. And it works, there isn't really a big problem with it. What makes this wiki different? I just want to know. Noname
- I haven't been here long, but from what I gather, people were spending more time editing userspace than actual wiki content (which is the purpose of the wiki). -- Chris201 21:10, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- It's because many people were signing up for this wiki for the main or sole purpose of using the userspace as something along the lines of a blog, Myspace, or gaming center. As such, userspace edits started to constitute the majority of this wiki's edits, and people using signature templates and then changing them started to bog down the server.
- To alleviate the solution, userspace editing to anyone without sysop powers has been blocked, and a new signature policy has been drafted that forbids the usage of signature templates. Many of the powers-that-be are working on a solution to try to curb the amount of userspace edits upon the lifting of the userspace ban. Note that the only current sysop who's ever found themselves unable to edit userpages under the current conditions is the most recently-appointed one, Jioruji Derako; yours truly, the second-most recently-appointed one, was given the powers shortly before the userspace ban fell into place. --Shiningpikablu252 21:10, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, technically, at first, Zhen made it so no one could... which even excluded him and the rest of us. Wouldn't be very good if we needed to do something about someone's page. But look at how often we're editing our pages. Very sparingly. Very. It's more or less on a need-to basis. TTEchidna 04:20, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- I generally only take an edit or two to completely redesign my page, on such rare occasions. Do all the editing in the "Show Preview" window, and you won't ever clog up RC. And I tend not to keep anything that needs updating on my page (I currently list off some Pokémon teams, but even when userspace editing was on, I only updated levels every so often).
- It's just so easy to make a beautiful userspage, then let it be. I see no problem with users who spend a lot of time making their userpages... but the problem arises when they don't ever "finish" the page. Spend a day making your page pretty, then get back to editing. Not the other way around. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:38, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

- On march 24th, this was posted:
- Due to an overwhelmingly large amount of edits going on in the User: namespace, we have disabled edits to all pages within it for the time being. We are monitoring how much the lack of ability to edit personal pages will affect the server, and when the results come in, we will make a decision on what to do.
- If you feel the need to create a userpage or edit it now, you will have to wait. Do not create a page in the main namespace to move to the User: namespace under any circumstances. The results will likely be conclusive after about a week, and you will be informed with another message from the editor about the return of functionality.
- Additionally, a policy on signatures is being discussed on the Bulbapedia forum on BMGf, so please, take a look at it even if you are not a member, as it may affect you.
