Trivia
Origin
The shape of Shroodle's snout combined with the fact it evolves into a Pokémon based on an aye-aye could suggest it is based on a treeshrew, a small mammal from South East Asia closely related to primates and is believed to resemble fossils of the order's most ancient members. Its large eyes could be inspired by mouse lemurs.
It may most likely be based on any of the many species of Shrew Tenrecs in genus Microgale, which are native to Madagascar just like the Aye-aye. Tenrecs have the unique behavior of licking their paws and spreading their saliva around their territory (on substrate, the walls of their burrows, any food or items they collect, etc.) as a method of scent marking, so this is likely be where Shroodle's behavior of "painting markings on its territory" comes from.
The venomous bite trait likely comes from American short-tailed shrews, one of the few mammals with a truly venomous bite, which use their venom to paralyze earthworms and other prey. Tenrecs also utilize venom, but they do not have venom in their bite; they will bite toxic insects or frogs and then "paint" their own bodies or quills with the toxic animals' secretions.
The short and stumpy limbs closely resemble the limbs of either Tenrecs or shrews, both of which are more closely related to hedgehogs and moles than to primates.
Shroodle's overall body shape may pay homage to "Kilroy was here," a popular graffiti.
Name origin
Shroodle may be a pun on shrew (insectivore mammal), shrewd, and doodle.
