Blaziken (Japanese: バシャーモ Bursyamo) is a dual-type Fire/Fighting Pokémon. It is the final form of Torchic.

Biology

Physiology

Blaziken appears as if it's wearing a sleeveless jacket on its torso. It has a crest on its head with two points, which resembles a letter "V". It also has long hair behind its head and a small face almost completely covered in feathers. Its strong, muscular legs help it jump up a skyscraper with one kick and with ease. Lastly, it has three fingers on each hand, with what appears to be wristband-like markings on its wrists. These ignite when Blaziken is threatened.

Gender differences

A female has shorter "hair" than a male. The V-shape on a female's "mask" will also be smaller.

Special abilities

It can leap over a skyscraper with a single jump. It can make flames spout from its wrists and ankles, cloaking its feet or fists.

Blaziken in the anime

Blaziken was first seen in Pop Goes The Sneasel. Harrison used it to defeat the Sneasel that was blocking access to the flame of Ho-Oh. Harrison later used Blaziken in a climatic battle with Ash's Charizard.

Blaziken was also seen in Destiny Deoxys under the ownership of Rafe.

In Once More with Reeling, May's Combusken evolved into a Blaziken. She brought it with her to Johto, and it was one of the Pokémon she used when she returned in DP076.

Trivia

  • On a weight basis, Blaziken is the lightest final form of a starter Pokémon weighing 114.6 pounds (52.0 kilograms)
  • Blaziken is one of the first Generation III Pokémon to appear in the anime (the first being Kecleon, and the second one being Wynaut), and one of the very few Generation III Pokémon to appear before the first episode of Advance Generation. It is also the only starter Pokémon to appear in the anime before its generation saga began.
  • Some consider Blaziken's average Speed stat to tone it down to a degree perceived as being a weaker version of Infernape. However, Blaziken does have higher Attack and Special Attack stats than Infernape.
  • Blaziken resembles Brooklyn from the Gargoyles TV series and comics.

Origin

Blaziken is probably based on a cockfighting chicken. It also bears resemblance to Horus, an Ancient Egyptian Deity with a hawk's head.

Name origin

Blaziken's name is a combination of blaze and chicken. Its Japanese name is likely a combination of burst or burn and 軍鶏 shamo, a breed of Japanese chicken once raised for fighting.
