Effect

Generation VII

Allows the player to fish in piles of rocks at the bottom of water. When fishing, the player may find a Pokémon, an item, or nothing. The player can fish while standing on land or while riding Lapras Surf; they cannot fish from Sharpedo Jet.

In each area that has fishing spots, at least one of the rock piles has bubbles seeping from it to the surface; if the player fishes at this spot while bubbles are emerging from it, they are more likely to encounter Pokémon that are normally rare to find in fishing spots in that area. As soon as the player reels in their line after they find any Pokémon or item from a bubbling spot, the bubbles will disappear until the player re-enters the area. The bubbles also disappear if the player moves too quickly near the spot, if they move over it, or if they reel in their rod too early. If the bubbles are not present, the fishing spot functions the same as all other fishing spots in the area.

In the Alola region, there are fishing spots at Seaward Cave, Kala'e Bay, Melemele Sea, Paniola Town, Brooklet Hill, Akala Outskirts, Malie Garden, Secluded ShoreSM, Seafolk Village, Poni WildsSM, Poni Breaker Coast, Vast Poni Canyon, Poni Meadow, Poni Gauntlet, and Routes 7, 8, 9, 13, 14 and 15.

Generation VIII

Allows the player to fish at shadows in the water.

In the Galar region, there are fishing spots at Motostoke, Hulbury, the Slumbering Weald, Galar Mine No. 2, and Routes 2, 4, 5, 6, and 9. The Wild Area also has several fishing spots, at East Lake Axewell, West Lake Axewell, Axew's Eye, South Lake Miloch, the Giant's Seat, North Lake Miloch, the Motostoke Riverbank, Bridge Field, the Dusty Bowl, the Giant's Mirror, the Giant's Cap, and the Lake of Outrage.

The Isle of Armor has fishing spots at the Fields of Honor, the Soothing Wetlands, the Forest of Focus, Challenge Beach, the Courageous Cavern, Loop Lagoon, the Training Lowlands, the Workout Sea, the Stepping-Stone Sea, the Insular Sea, the Honeycalm Sea, and Honeycalm Island.

The Crown Tundra has fishing spots at the Giant's Bed, Snowslide Slope, the Giant's Foot, the Frigid Sea, and Ballimere Lake.
