Volkner's Raichu (Japanese: デンジのライチュウ Denzi's Raichu) is one of Volkner's Pokémon in the games, anime, and manga.

History

In the anime

Pre-series

As a Pikachu with a young Volkner

Raichu was Volkner's very first Pokémon, having owned him since he was a Pikachu during his youth. They became rivals with Flint and his Chimchar, battling each other countless times. After losing to Chimchar one time, Pikachu bounced back in their rematch, defeating the Chimp Pokémon with Iron Tail. Later at some point, Pikachu battled the Proprietor's Houndoom, when the latter was a Pokémon poacher at the time. Houndoom dealt some damage to Pikachu and Chimchar, but the latter wasn't able to continue, leaving Pikachu to do it on its own. Volkner was very determined to battle the Proprietor. After a long battle, the Proprietor was defeated and became friends with Volkner and Flint.

Pikachu later evolved into a Raichu prior to Volkner becoming the Sunyshore City Gym Leader. Raichu was very strong as he defeated several Pokémon such as a Trainer's Weavile and Mothim over time, gradually causing Volkner to lose interest in battling as a result. Despite this, Raichu remained close to his Trainer, although one day hoping Volkner's passion for battle was restored.

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl

Raichu debuted in Flint Sparks the Fire!, happily reuniting with Flint at the Sunyshore Tower, while also meeting Ash and his friends. In the next episode, Raichu joined Volkner, Flint, and Ash as they jumped onto the flying Sunyshore Tower that had been hijacked by Team Rocket. When they reached the tower's cockpit where Rocket trio's was hiding in, Raichu and Ash's Pikachu battled Seviper and Carnivine but their Electric attacks were redirected onto the tower's generator, leaving them open to be struck down by the opposing Pokémon.

Just then, Ash summoned his Grotle to protect them who, after suddenly evolving into Torterra, was able to send Team Rocket blasting off with Leaf Storm. Once the tower started losing power, Raichu, together with Pikachu and Volkner's Luxray, started powering it with their Electric attacks, allowing Volkner to safely pilot the tower back to its original location and prevent a possible disaster.

Raichu later briefly appeared alongside Volkner during the ending credits of Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

Personality and characteristics

Being Volkner's first Pokémon, Raichu holds great love and loyalty towards his Trainer, and even after Volkner had lost his passion for battling and became aloof towards anyone and anything, Raichu remained loyal and never lost faith in his Trainer. He also has a very good friendship with Flint, happily greeting him upon their reunion in Flint Sparks the Fire!.

Pokémon Adventures

Raichu is one of Volkner's main battling Pokémon, as well as the first Pokémon seen in Volkner's possession. He debuted in Encountering Elekid, being summoned alongside Elekid to battle the Valley Windworks manager after Volkner mistakenly believed him to be a Gym challenger. In the next chapter, Raichu accompanied Volkner as he joined the other Gym Leaders in hopes of training Platinum in order to stand up against Team Galactic. Raichu is paired against Empoleon, where even though it managed to trap him in ice with Blizzard, Raichu managed to free itself with a Berry and defeated Empoleon with Thunderbolt.

In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia VI, Raichu was by Volkner's side when he encountered a strange distortion in space right in front of the Sendoff Spring.
