Trivia
Origin
Wailmer is based on a whale with aspects of a beach ball, similarly to Azumarill.
Name origin
Wailmer's name is based on whale. Wail may also refer to the sounds this Pokémon may create or refer to that whales sing or in this case, wail. Its Japanese name is literally 吠える子, bellowing child, but hoeru is similar in sound to the English word whale, making the meaning of its name whale child. Mer may come from the French word for sea.
