Haunter (Japanese: ゴースト Ghost) is a Ghost/Poison-type Pokémon.

Pokédex entries

Pokémon Gold
In total darkness, where nothing is visible, Haunter lurks, silently stalking its next victim.
Pokémon Emerald
If a Haunter beckons you while it is floating in darkness, don't approach it. This Pokémon will try to lick you with its tongue and steal your life away.
Pokémon FireRed
If you get the feeling of being watched in darkness when nobody is around, Haunter is there.
Pokémon LeafGreen
Because of its ability to slip through block walls, it is said to be from another dimension.

Name origin

Haunter's name origin simply means it is one who haunts, as ghosts are known to do. Its Japanese name is just Ghost.

It appears to be based on a generic sort of cartoonish ghost.

The proto-type name of Haunter was "Spectre".

  • In third generation games, Haunter is immune to Ground due to its ability, Levitate.
  • The immunity of Ghost Pokémon to Normal and Fighting can be removed by the use of moves such as Foresight; If such a move is used, the effectiveness of Normal on Haunter is 100, and of Fighting - 50 (due to Gengar's other type).
