Effect

Generation I

Leer decreases the opponent's defense by 1 level.

Leer will do nothing if the opponent's defense has reached a level of -6 or a value of 1, and will fail if the opponent has a substitute or is under the effect of Mist. The effect of Leer is ignored by critical hits.

In Generation III, Leer will do nothing if the opponent has either the Clear Body or White Smoke abilities.
