Synopsis

Walking through a foggy forest, Ash, Misty and Brock are heading to New Bark Town to register for the Johto League. After being lost, Misty scolds Ash. Then Misty's Togepi and Pikachu run off to a lake. The gang saw a mysterious Pokémon, later revealed to be Suicune, at the middle of the lake. When Suicune sees them, it run away. Ash tries to follow it but falls. The others soon also fall. Then, Jigglypuff appears and finds it fun and slides down. Jessie, James and TRMeowth ([[{{{2}}} (move)|{{{2}}}]]) are walking out of the same forest, hungry. They find a Pokémon Lab, where Professor Elm mistakes Jessie as Nurse Joy and tells her to check up on his Totodile. They encounter Prof. Elm's Totodile. Totodile bites Meowth's tail and sprays water at James' face. Jessie picks it up and they run out of the lab. Ash and the gang has finally reached New Bark Town. Excited to see Nurse Joy, Brock tells Ash and Misty to go to the Pokémon Center but when they reach there, they see Nurse Joy’s Chansey. Chansey presses a button and a screen appears. Nurse Joy says that she is with Prof. Elm and will be back by 2:00 but Misty says that it is already 3:30. Brock gets concerned and forces them to find her. But when they reach there, they find out that the place is swarming with police.
When Brock sees Officer Jenny, he wants to give a bouquet of flowers to her. But as usual, Misty pulls his ear and tows him away. When they rush inside, they see Nurse Joy scolding Prof. Elm for being careless. Brock rushes up to her and hold her hands but is towed away by Misty again. Ash and his friends learn about the stolen Totodile.
Using a sample of the thieves' footprints, Officer Jenny's Growlithe tracks down Team Rocket and the Totodile. Ash defeats Team Rocket, and Totodile is returned to Professor Elm. Later that day, Nurse Joy registers Ash for the Johto League. Ash and his friends then leave, unaware of Jigglypuff, which follows after them.

- This is the only time that the first episode of a region aired before the game the region corresponds to was released in Japan: Pokémon Gold and Silver were not released in Japan until more than a month after this episode's first airing. In the United States, all episodes featuring the debut of a generation have aired before the release of the corresponding games by a few days besides Pokémon - I Choose You!, which aired a week after the release of Pokémon Red and Blue.
- Jigglypuff does not sing in this episode.
Errors
