Old Sea Map
The Old Sea Map (Japanese: ふるびたかいず Old Sea Chart) is an event key item needed to access Faraway Island in Pokémon Emerald. It was distributed during the Pokémon Festa event in 2005 in Japan. Like other event tickets are the only way to get Deoxys, Lugia, and Ho-Oh, this event ticket will allow the player to catch Mew. Like the GS Ball, this event item never reached international players without the use of cheating.
If the player has the key item in their bag, takes it to the S.S. Tidal port in Lilycove City, and talks to the woman that allows access to the boat, the Faraway event activates. First, the lady questions what the player asks her and implies that the player asked if it is possible to go to the area denoted on the chart. She apoligizes that they can not take the player to the area described. Just then, Mr. Briney pops out and scolds the lady for turning the player away. He apoligizes to the player and looks at the map, then tells the player it is a long way out of Hoenn, but he will take the player there. After the boat ride, you enter Faraway island which has forestry scenery. Deep in this forest, the player will notice Mew, which will be shocked to see the player and flees playfully. Mew will play hide and seek with the player by keeping away from the player in the tall grass; Mew's tail can still be seen. Eventually, mew gets pinned in a corner and will engage in battle with the player. It is at level 30.
