History

With Mustard

Urshifu debuted in PASS32 as a Kubfu. Mustard introduced Kubfu to Casey, hoping she would help it see the world outside the Master Dojo and overcome its shy nature. Casey rejected the offer as she already had a full party, so Mustard instead passed the task onto Henry. In PASS33, Kubfu traveled with Henry to the Forest of Focus to look for tree sap capable of curing the effects of Eternatus's poison. As soon as they arrived, the group was attacked by some rampaging Poison-type Pokémon. Kubfu impulsively fought off the Pokémon, only to retreat in shame when Klara pointed out the Pokémon didn't actually mean any harm.

In PASS34, once the sap was collected, Kubfu stole the container from Casey, hoping to use it to cure a poisoned Zorua. After scolding Kubfu for failing to explain itself, the group suggested it use a Pecha Berry as a substitute, only to earn the anger of a group of Skwovet led by a Greedent. Twiggy, Bit, and Sniffler fended off the group, giving Kubfu the opportunity to heal the Zorua. Afterward, Kubfu trained by battling various wild Pokémon on the island.

The Scroll of Waters Kubfu used to evolve

In PASS35, Henry and the others came across the Tower of Darkness while searching for the Rusted Sword and Shield. A Master Dojo Student guarding the entrance refused to let them enter the building unless Henry and Kubfu defeat her in a one-on-one battle. Despite landing the first blow, Kubfu was quickly defeated by the student's Impidimp. Later that night, Kubfu went to investigate the tower by itself, only to be taken out by an unseen Pokémon.

In PASS36, Kubfu chose to challenge the Tower of Waters. After battling through various students, Henry and Kubfu reached the final floor, where they faced Mustard and his Single Strike Style Urshifu. By targeting Urshifu's feet, Kubfu forced it to stumble, leaving Urshifu wide open to be defeated by a powerful Close Combat. Mustard allowed Kubfu to examine the Scroll of Waters, causing it to evolve into a Rapid Strike Style Urshifu. With their training complete, Mustard suggested Henry permanently keep Urshifu on his team, which he accepted.

With Henry

Henry and Urshifu reunited with Casey and Marvin at Loop Lagoon. Casey managed to track down the Rusted Shield, only for it to be guarded by a Galarian Moltres. With assistance from Hop, Henry was able to retrieve the shield, only for Moltres to carry him away to the Crown Tundra.

In PASS42, Hop returned Urshifu to Henry, who saved him from an attack from Eternatus. Henry then nicknamed him Āman.

Personality and characteristics

Āman and Henry
Kubfu's shy nature

While living with Mustard, Kubfu was the "secret armor" of the Master Dojo. However, its potential was stunted by shyness, causing it to hide behind people's legs and refuse to leave the dojo. Once it left the dojo and explored the Isle of Armor, it began to gain more confidence in itself, defending people instead of hiding away and standing up for what it wanted. Near the end of its training it had even gained enough confidence to be on its own, shown when it entered the Tower of Waters on its own in order to prove itself. It has also been shown to be a kind Pokémon, acting on impulse to help an injured Zorua.

Unlike the rest of Henry's team, Āman does not use a tool, though Henry has related his ability to protect others as a tool in and of itself.
