Projects Page

Why isn't this listed on the page that lists Bulbapedia Projects? It would be very helpful for you all if more people were aware that you have this project going on. --LynnCreed 11:05, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Standards and/or infoboxes?

I know this is a fresh project, but what kind of standards should we have for the articles? Most of the item articles will likely be like Potion and Held items, with a list of items by group, so maybe these two articles (maybe Potion more than Held items) should be the basis for a standard. As for an infobox, I personally think that it would be unnecessary. What I do think is necessary, though, as I said at Talk:Item, is a footer template that links the articles. --TMF T - C 21:03, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Concur'd. --Pie 22:11, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Pie, what do you think of having the TOC aligned right like I have it set up on Held items? For shorter articles, this wouldn't be necessary, but for ones with many headings (as Held items will when it is completed), the aligned-right TOC allows users to view the contents of the article while allowing those users to get right to the article. --TMF T - C 17:35, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
I think it's a good idea, and certainly helps with the held items article. For ones with less items, such as potion and ether, I agree, it's not really necessary. --Pie 18:03, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
TTEchidna's suggestion for the organization of List of items by type (at that page's talk page) makes for a good base to draft such a template.
List of Items
by index number
Generation I | Generation II | Generation III | Generation IV
by type
Evolution Items Evolution-inducing held items | Evolution stones
Held Items Berries | EV-enhancing item | In-battle effect items | Incense | Mail | Plates & other Type-enchancers | Scarves

Merging articles

Given the sheer number of Items and how simple and similar to other items many of them are, I think we can all agree that the group articles system is best, right? So, on that note, some things which need merging...

  • Metal Coat, obviously, needs to be merged onto the held items page.
  • Mach Bike and Acro Bike - given the size of these articles, perhaps they should be added to the main Bicycle article. I mean, personally, I don't see why they were split off.
  • Old Rod, Good Rod and Super Rod - again, given the size of these articles, perhaps they should be merged into a Rod article.
  • Blue Flute should be in a group article with other glass flutes - or, perhaps, the glass flutes, the Time Flute, and the Poké Flute should be altogether. However, despite all being flutes, the glass flutes do seem quite different from the Time Flute and Poké Flute - and it isn't unusual for us to have separate article for unusual parts of an item group which more can be said about - note all the links near the bottom of the Poké Ball article. Perhaps something like that could be done for the Flute article.

Thoughts? --Pie 22:11, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Points 1 through 3: completely agree. Point 4: we should definitely create a Flute article that covers every flute. This article would be the main page for the glass flutes and would have a blurb about the Poké and Time flutes, along with a link to the main articles (using Template:Main preferably, see Goldenrod City for how I've implemented it). --TMF T - C 22:32, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
...Eh, hope you don't mind. I already merged the Rod articles into the Fishing one, and made those redirects. I maybe should've joined the project first, but I'm new here so I don't know much (though I did my research to make the redirects and headings and everything...) Now on that article we just need info on where the rods are in Sinnoh, and maybe some images too... --Memo326 15:59, 18 April 2007 (Don't know which time zone :P)
Doesn't seem like a very active project... Anyway, already merged the Mach and Acro Bike articles into the main Bicycle article, and made those redirects to their specific section. Also added some info on the Bike in Sinnoh and basically rewrote all of the Bicycle article... --Memo326 23:11, 11 May 2007 (Still don't know which time zone...)
This is Bulbapedia, all our projects are kinda slow-moving. ^^o Anyway, TTE has been disputing the idea of not giving articles to the individual items... essentially giving us one or two big overall articles (item and the list), a good number of articles for the item families, and a buttload of short individual articles. So, I eventually gave him an ultimatum... that the only way we can have the individual item articles is if people can show me that they can expand articles enough that we won't have ten billion stubs on our hands. --Pie ~ 05:03, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Eh... I think I should've read this before I merged the Nugget article into the Valuable items one and the Heart Scale article into the Exchangeable items one (which I made from scratch =) )... Hope it wasn't his/her (:S) work I had reverted... Anyway, I particularly think we should have these articles on groups of items rather than each individual item having its own article. I mean... that's the only thing I've been doing since I joined XD. --Memo326 23:37, 16 May 2007
Update: Well, at least the Nugget article wasn't TTEchidna's. ^_^; --Memo326, like 2 seconds later.

Items in Generation IV/Diamond Pearl

Some of the Item locations for the first three Generations swap between the games and grouping the entire Generations, which seems OK enough as some items are found the same way in every game in that Generation, but where there already is Diamond/Pearl information, a lot of it is tagged as Generation IV data. Considering there are likely to be quite a number of additions to Generation IV and that it can't be confirmed that the same methods will be distributed across all the games, I'd say it makes sense just to use (D/P) for now and, should the method ring true for every game in the Generation by the time Generation V comes along, just edit that to Generation IV instead.

I've done this with all the items in the Held Items page, but would like to put forward that it become a standard.--Doctor Oak 17:35, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

This seems relevant to your project, so I thought I'd give you a heads up. There's now a List of key items in Generation IV. It could use a proofread or two and is missing out on both sprites and some descriptions of items that leave inventory after use. -Pdrydia 23:09, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Request for membership

I was wondering, can I join Project ItemDex? I feel that I can contribute to the many item pages around the site, as I have the time now to do so. CastformRED 07:08, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I would really like to join Project ItemDex for the sake of helping out. I think it is a wonderful project. ~VAD

Anyone can. Have a blast. TTEchidna 06:39, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Can i participate in This project? I will Help on Mystery dungeon.Leaf7634

That would be incredible. I've been trying to find the time to make articles for items like the Joy Seed, but I have other important work to do as well, so it's been tough. However, I did succeed in creating the articles on the Golden Mask and Amber Tear. If you wanna make some articles, I'd be happy to clean up your...uh...spelling and grammar. --ニョロトノ666 00:16, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

I want to join this project. I wanna help with D/P JirachiWishmaker0802 09:52, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Can I join this project? I can help with platinum, and Heartgold and Soulsilver. Pokepow 15:52, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Pokepow

You don't have to ask permission to join any Bulbapedia project, just add your name to the list. --SnorlaxMonster 11:41, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Item names in other languages

(Sorry for bad English)All the articles show Japanese names after the English one; I would like to put also Italian names. For example:

  • Italian: Caramella Rara
  • Japanese: ふしぎなアメ Mysterious Candy

--Luca, Allenatore 14:56, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Template

Should the Type-enhancing item and Stat-enhancing item pages have the {{item}} template? I wouldn't mind doing it. --ZestyCactus 00:09, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Nah, those are just {{Held}}. --SnorlaxMonster 11:33, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Mail

No one's responded to me at talk:Mail, so I guess I'll ask here. Should images of the actual stationary, i.e. what you see when you read mail, be included on the page for Mail? Because frankly, the bag sprites don't do it justice. --AndyPKMN 13:50, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

I would like to help

Hi I was wondering if I could join this project, I could help with items in Pokemon mystery dungeon games, Pokemon Platinum, and HeartGold and SoulSilver --Cynda98 04:21, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

Just stick your name on the list to join. There are plenty of item related things which still need work around the wiki, such as this rather incomplete article. Werdnae (talk) 04:36, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
I was wondering if I could help too. I can do Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Pokemon White Tailura 19:16, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Pokédex

I'm not a member of this project, but I started a related thing. See this and this for details. Anyway, it definitely falls under the scope of this project, so I thought you guys would be interested. I'm not sure what all the protocol is for this, but I could definitely use some help if anyone wants to provide. Thanks! Dragoness 15:53, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Apricorns

Sorry if I didn't spell that right. I have been collection lots of apricons in HG and I was hoping I could help with this project. I have known where to find lots of apricons (up to 7th badge) and would be glad to help! Can I be a member?? Thanks!! Lovewaterpokemon 17:28, 3 October 2010 (UTC)Lovewaterpokemon

I would also like to help by telling everyone where to get TM and HM's I am still Lovewaterpokemon and I love helping! So, could I?? Thanks!! Lovewaterpokemon 17:30, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
You don't have to ask permission to join. Just sign your name on the list. --SnorlaxMonster 06:42, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Now it's spelled right. Pokepow

Evolutionary Stones

I find the Evolutionary Stones page lacking in information about the idividual stones like what pokemon they evolve, where you can find them in the games, etc. I suggest to write individual pages about each or to write sections on each stone in the already existing page.Micamike45 20:36, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

They're in the template, you just need to open them (by clicking on [show]). and no, it shouldn't get separate pages as there would be too little of information to even call it an article.--ForceFire 22:20, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
O,sorry I guess I didn't see that.Micamike45 04:17, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Template:DungeonItem

We have a new template, and therefore we have new "To-do" = get the list of items appearing in each dungeon. Marked +-+-+ (talk) 10:04, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Note, that anyone may add to the to-do list if there's something new to add. It's not really restricted to anyone. --Pokemaster97 16:36, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Item template inclusion

Is there any logic as to when an item gets an {{Item}} template on an article? For example, that template is used for every item on Legendary artifacts, but for the "main articles", its usage is restricted to Drive, Colored orbs, Timespace orbs, and Dragon Stones, while it's absent from Silver and Rainbow Wings as well as all others that only deal with a single item; the template is absent from the Fossil page (that's been linked to from the main {{Items}} template), as well as the individual fossil pages.

(Personally, I've often found myself browsing pages real quick just to grab that template; its design is remarkable, and it contains the most important info. We seem to prefer to direct to the most specific articles, of course, including when just typing something like "Red Orb" or "Helix Fossil" in the search bar. I can understand how the template's inclusion on single-item articles in particular may counteract a good article (design), though. I mean, the "main articles" technically do contain the information from the super-articles, but they do sometimes lack the template.) Nescientist (talk) 08:49, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

Add (item) to the title of every item article

I think this is something we should do for clarity, and for consistency with the moves and abilities as well as stuff like Black Belt (item) and Metronome (item). sumwun (talk) 19:33, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

I know it's been 6 months, but I still think this is a good idea. sumwun (talk, contribs) 04:40, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
I don't really have any strong preference in this matter, but in the up side it would probably simplify linking to item articles through templates. Right now many party templates link to the disambiguation articles for black belt and metronome.
On the other hand it would be redundant or awkward for some pages, such as TMs. Suic (talk) 12:55, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
I don't think this is a good idea. If anything, for consistency, move and Ability (and Pokémon) pages should drop the suffix (unless it's needed).
Directly linking to the article is better than having to use templates. As for the party templates etc., I'd argue those are badly designed (or used). Nescientist (talk) 12:17, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
