History

Bastiodon and Byron

Prior to the start of Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl, Byron revived Bastiodon from an Armor Fossil and evolved Shieldon into a Bastiodon.

Bastiodon first appeared in Ancient Family Matters!, where Byron used it to battle against his son Roark and his Rampardos. Roark started the fight by having Rampardos repeatedly using Zen Headbutt, which was countered by Bastiodon's Iron Defense. Bastiodon then went on the offense and used Flamethrower, which was dodged. Rampardos attacked with a powerful Head Smash, which Bastiodon combatted with Iron Head. At a standstill, the two attacked with Flamethrower and Flash Cannon. Rampardos began to show signs of fatigue, but an alarm went off in the Gym, causing the battle to be called off.

The alarm was revealed to be caused by Team Rocket, who had stolen the Fossils from the Gym. Byron and Roark teamed up and had Bastiodon and Rampardos attack the mecha Team Rocket was using, but the attacks caused no damage. Meowth begans to throw chunks of earth at them, causing the two to retreat. Bastiodon stepped in and took the attacks, allowing Rampardos to attack the machine. Worried that they may not survive much more, Team Rocket attempted to flee, only to be hit by Bastiodon and Rampardos. The attack created an opening for Ash's Pikachu to use Thunderbolt, destroying the machine.

Bastiodon and Rampardos

In Dealing With Defensive Types!, Bastiodon was used as Byron's last Pokémon in his Gym battle against Ash, fighting against his Chimchar. Wanting to end the battle quickly, Ash had Chimchar use Flamethrower. Bastiodon stand its ground and used Iron Defense to handle the attack and then used Metal Burst to send the damage back, knocking Chimchar out. Next, it faced Gliscor, who started the battle with Steel Wing from behind, which Bastiodon countered with Iron Defense. It then tried Fire Fang, only to be countered by Flash Cannon. While recovering, Bastiodon went on the offense and striked with Iron Head multiple times. Although weakened, Gliscor managed to get close enough to Bastiodon to grab on to it from behind, allowing it to use consecutive Fire Fangs. Bastiodon shaked it off and attacked with Flash Cannon, but it missed when Gliscor used its tail to knock Bastiodon over. Bastiodon managed to hit the Fang Scorpion Pokémon with another Iron Head, but was finally defeated when Gliscor got behind it again and used Fire Fang.

Bastiodon also appeared alongside Byron during the credits of Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

Personality and characteristics

Like most of its species, Bastiodon is incredibly defensive, able to withstand many attacks, even having the upper hand in battle against Rampardos, a highly offensive Pokémon. It is Byron's favorite Fossil Pokémon and as a result is his most trusted teammate.

Byron's Shieldon in Pokémon Adventures

Byron had a Shieldon that first appeared in A Big Stink Over Stunky. Due to the Shield Pokémon's stubborn nature, Byron was unable to bond with him. He eventually gave him to Diamond, due to Shieldon liking the Trainer. Shieldon has since evolved into Bastiodon and been nicknamed Don.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!

Bastiodon in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!

Bastiodon first appeared in Challenge! The Fortress Of Steel!!, where it was sent out to finish off Hareta's Piplup during Hareta and Byron's Gym battle. In The Legendary Pokémon, Captured, Bastiodon took on Saturn's Bronzong where its Take Down was blocked by Reflect and was finished by Bronzong's Earthquake. In Bonds Connect Across Space-Time..., Bastiodon was seen along with the Gym Leaders's other Pokémon where they were battling with Palkia in order to protect Hareta. However, Palkia canceled out their attacks.
