Dario in the anime

Dario (Japanese: ドリオ Dorio) is a character of the day who appeared in The Flame Pokémon-athon!. He also appeared in The Electric Tale of Pikachu.

In the anime

Dario was an arrogant and rude Trainer who went to great lengths to win the Big P Pokémon Race. He resorted to cheating, and hired Team Rocket to stage a stampede that resulted in his rival competitor Lara Laramie breaking her arm. While she could not compete, Ash entered in her place, riding her Ponyta.

Thanks to more of Team Rocket's assistance, Dario and his Dodrio quickly took the lead position during the race. Out of nowhere, Ash emerged and caught up to him. Dario had his Dodrio Pecked at Ponyta, but it only delayed the Pokémon temporarily. It then evolved into Rapidash and defeated Dario by just a few centimeters. Enraged, Dario ordered Dodrio to attack Ash and Rapidash, but Rapidash kicked them and sent them flying.

Blaming Team Rocket for his loss, Dario tied them up and had his Dodrio use Peck on them.

Dodrio

Debut	The Flame Pokémon-athon

Dario's Dodrio's appeared in The Flame Pokémon-athon, where it competed in the Big P Pokémon Race event. Dodrio's long strides helped Dario stay in first for most of the race. Suddenly Ash and Ponyta caught up, so Dario tried to put Ponyta off balance with a Peck. Ponyta, however, evolved into a Rapidash and won the race sending Dodrio flying with a Stomp.

Dodrio's only known move is Peck.

Dario in The Electric Tale of Pikachu

Dario appears in The Human Race and the Pokémon Race, where he spooks Lara's Ponyta so that she will be injured and unable to participate in the Fuchsia Free-For-All Race. Unlike his anime appearance, he spooks Ponyta by himself without Team Rocket's help. He also hired a bunch of thugs and a herd of Squirtle, Wartortle and Blastoise to help him cheat in the race. He was revealed to be a poor sport when Ash won, trying to take the flag away from him.

Dodrio was used in the Fuchsia Free-For-All Race. In the past, it was revealed that he won many races using Dodrio.

None of Dodrio's moves are known.

Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise (multiple)

Debut	The Human Race and the Pokémon Race

When Ash was about to be in the lead, Dario sent out Squirtle, Wartortle and Blastoise to hold him back. However, they were defeated by Pikachu.

Their only known move is Hydro Pump.

Trivia

• Both his Japanese and English names may be a pun on "Dodrio", a Pokémon which seems to be his main Pokémon in both the anime and the manga.
• In the English dub, he speaks with a Southern accent, as does Lara.
