Blurb

Liko and Roy are off to the forest where Brassius saw Arboliva—and after learning about a recent wildfire there, Mollie decides to join them. The group finds a burned wasteland, so Roy races ahead, only to find an Ancient Poké Ball on a giant tree. Meanwhile, Liko gets lost, so she heads toward the giant tree to meet up with Roy and Mollie. On the way, she finds an injured Paldean Wooper, but some other wild Pokémon see her as a threat and attack. At the giant tree, Liko finds Roy, and both Trainers end up in a desperate fight—against the tree itself! Could it be Arboliva?

Plot

Liko is standing outside of Dot's room. She thinks about how Nidothing's theme music can often be heard from Dot's room, how Dot is always accompanied by a Quaxly, and how she saw a Nidothing costume hanging on the ship's balcony the other day. Putting these clues together, she thinks she's figured out the truth and knocks on Dot's door. She lays out her evidence, and Dot is ready to confess her identity as Nidothing. However, her confession is cut off when Liko suddenly declares that Dot must be a Nidothing super fan. Dot is baffled that Liko still hasn't figured out the truth, making her feel too awkward to continue her confession. Elsewhere aboard the Brave Olivine, Mollie ends a phone call from her mother, who's been insisting she return home. Seeing an image of the forest that Liko and Roy are planning to visit the next day on her phone, she tells Orla that she'll be going with them.

The next day, Nemona leads Liko, Roy, and Mollie to the forest, which was largely burnt down by a recent wildfire, started by a lightning strike on dry vegetation. However, there is still some green left further ahead. Nemona leaves, telling Roy they'll battle the next time they meet. The three make their way through the burnt landscape, until they reach the unharmed part of the forest. Roy decides to scout things ahead, being used to moving around forests and telling Liko and Mollie to meet up with him at a giant tree in the distance if they get lost and proceeds to run off, much to Liko's worry, but Mollie reassures her that since Roy has a Rotom Phone to contact them with, he'll be fine. Aboard the airship, Friede, Murdock, and Orla are having a discussion, with Friede wondering why Lucca hasn't contacted him yet.

In the forest, Liko is amazed at all the Pokémon she's seeing, having never wandered this deep into the woods before. Mollie calls her a pampered princess, flustering Liko, who tells her that it's just because she didn't have Sprigatito with her yet and her parents were always busy. This prompts Mollie asks what they do for work. Liko reveals that her father makes picture books, while her mother is a schoolteacher. However, she doesn't take after either of them, having not yet figured out what to do with her life. Mollie reassures her that it's perfectly normal for someone of her age to not know what to do with their life yet and reveals that she too didn't know what to do with her life at her age, though unlike her, she had a life that was dictated for her; she comes from a long line of Pokémon doctors, and kept doing her work without thinking about it too much, but eventually decided to quit. Liko asks why she chose to do this, but Mollie simply says she'll tell her later. Remembering how Mollie once refused to go to a Pokémon Center, Liko figures it's because she didn't want to be reminded of her past life.

Sprigatito discovers an Oran Berry bush, and Mollie explains the Berry's healing properties, telling Liko to go gather some. Liko happily obliges and leaves to collect more, but once she intends to head back, she realizes she has no idea which way to go. Starting to panic, Liko tries to call Mollie, but discovers that there's no reception. Trying to stay calm, she decides to follow Roy's advice and head for the giant tree in the distance. At said tree, Roy decides to start scaling it with Fuecoco, and is shocked to notice another Ancient Poké Ball hanging near the top. As he climbs towards it, the tree suddenly starts shaking, which is also noticed by Liko on her way towards it. Not comfortable of just sitting around, especially with no phone reception, Mollie starts heading towards the tree too.

While walking through an area ravaged by the wildfire, Liko unexpectedly finds a Paldean Wooper, which is in a very weak condition. However, she doesn't get much chances at trying to help it when a group a Grass Pokémon attack her and take Wooper away. She follows them to the giant tree, where they still refuse to let her approach Wooper, not understanding she's trying to help it. Suddenly, Mollie enters the scene and has her Chansey grab Wooper so she can treat it, firmly stating to the Grass Pokémon that she's here to help. While treating Wooper, she reveals to Liko that the reason she stopped working at a Pokémon Center is because she couldn't help but think of all the injured wild Pokémon that never get taken to one. She couldn't bear that idea and had chosen to travel to help those unfortunate Pokémon rather than just stand by and wait.

The Grass types start calling out to the giant tree, causing it to start shaking again and reveal itself to actually be a giant Arboliva. It shakes Roy off itself and starts firing blasts of olive oil at him and Liko. They want to leave, but Mollie refuses to go while she's still helping Wooper. As such, Liko and Roy decided to battle Arboliva together, though Liko frantically tells Roy to not have Fuecoco use Ember to avoid risking another wildfire. While Sprigatito keeps Arboliva distracted with her Quick Attack, Roy has Fuecoco use Stomping Tantrum to break the ground under Arboliva's feet. Liko has Sprigatito use Leafage around Arboliva's head, blinding and disorient it while Roy has Fuecoco use Stomping Tantrum again, causing Arboliva to fall down. However, their celebration is cut short when Arboliva starts getting back up. Fortunately, Wooper has regained enough strength now to walk up to Arboliva and convince it to stop attacking. Having understood Mollie was helping Wooper, Arboliva's anger subsides. No sooner has Wooper left with the Grass types, though, that Arboliva starts letting out a sad cry and unexpectedly lifts Liko and Roy up high, showing them the full extent of how devastated the forest really is.
