Kaz

Kaz (Japanese: カズ Kaz) is a character of the day who appeared in Showdown at Dark City. He is the Leader of the Kaz Gym in Dark City.

Kaz's goal is to get his Gym recognized as the only official Gym in Dark City in order to make money. He, therefore, has a bitter rivalry with the other would-be Leader Yas and his Yas Gym. To this end, the two Leaders and their pupils have been battling constantly, much to the detriment of the residents of Dark City. During a confrontation between the two Gyms, Kaz sends his Electabuzz against Yas' Scyther but Ash, his friends, and a group of local children spilled ketchup on him, Yas, and Team Rocket. As both Scyther and Electabuzz have a strong aversion to the color red, these two battling Pokémon turned on their Trainers.

After their Pokémon run into each other, the two Leaders go after Ash, Misty, Brock, and the three kids who helped them. Pikachu then fends them off with a Thunder. His dreams of wealth through leading an official Gym are dashed when a disguised Nurse Joy, acting as a member of the Pokémon Inspection Agency, reveals herself and declares both him and his rival unfit to be Gym Leaders.
