Shinko

(Japanese: シンコ Shinko) is a character of the day who appeared in DPS01.

Shinko is a young girl who is preparing to set off on her Pokémon journey. However, she is indecisive and cannot decide what Pokémon to select as her first partner Pokémon, or whether to compete in Pokémon Contests or aim for the Sinnoh League. She likes to thoroughly prepare and take notes before making a decision.

In a situation remarkably similar to Dawn's, Shinko was in the middle of examining Sinnoh's first partner Pokémon when the Chimchar and Piplup of the first partner Pokémon trio began fighting. They ended up breaking one of the windows of Professor Rowan's laboratory and escaped into the woods. Shinko told Professor Rowan what happened and Dawn, who had just arrived at the lab, offered to help find the escaped Pokémon.

Shinko and Dawn walked through the forest when they quickly encountered the escaped Piplup and Chimchar. They run away out of sight, however. Suddenly, they found that Chimchar and Piplup were caught in a web made by a wild Ariados. Dawn's Cyndaquil was able to free them but was eventually distracted by Shinko. The Ariados fired it Poison Sting and Cyndaquil took the hit and was badly hurt.

After that, multiple Ariados appeared and fired their String Shot, stopping Shinko and Dawn in their tracks. However, Dawn was able to stop them using all of her Pokémon. However, the leader, a Shiny Ariados used Psychic, controlling them and using String Shot to stop them once again. At that moment, Cyndaquil evolved into Quilava and used Eruption, defeating all of the Ariados. They successfully got Chimchar and Piplup back and Shinko ultimately decided to wait a while before choosing her first partner Pokémon. She was later seen at Twinleaf's port, waving Dawn goodbye when she left for her new journey to Hoenn.

Her catchphrase is "That's good to know!", which she uses every time she deems something to be important enough to write down in her notebook.
