Stance Change (Japanese: バトルスイッチ Battle Switch) is an Ability introduced in Generation VI. It is the signature Ability of Aegislash.

Effect

In battle

Stance Change allows Aegislash to switch between its Shield Forme and Blade Forme. Aegislash is always in Shield Forme if it is not battling, and as such, switching out reverts it to Shield Forme.

If Shield Forme Aegislash uses a damaging move, it changes to Blade Forme immediately before using the move. If Blade Forme Aegislash uses King's Shield, it changes to Shield Forme immediately before using the move. Status moves other than King's Shield will not change its form. Moves that call other moves, such as Sleep Talk, will not change its form, even if they call a damaging move or King's Shield.

Gastro Acid, Worry Seed, and Simple Beam fail if the target has the Ability Stance Change. Role Play, Skill Swap, Entrainment, and Doodle fail if either Pokémon has Stance Change. Stance Change cannot be copied by Trace, Power of Alchemy, or Receiver. Stance Change cannot be replaced by Mummy or Lingering Aroma, suppressed by Core Enforcer or Neutralizing Gas, or traded by Wandering Spirit. If a Pokémon other than Aegislash obtains Stance Change with Imposter or Transform, the Pokémon will not change forms.

Generation VI

If Aegislash attempts to use a move, even if it cannot execute it due to an effect such as a status condition, confusion, or disobedience, Stance Change still activates accordingly.

Generation VII onward

If Aegislash attempts to use a move but cannot execute it due to an effect such as a status condition or confusion, Stance Change does not activate.

Outside of battle

Stance Change has no effect outside of battle.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

Stance Change allows Aegislash to switch between its Shield Forme and Blade Forme. If Shield Forme Aegislash uses a damaging move, it changes to Blade Forme immediately before using the move. If Blade Forme Aegislash uses King's Shield, it changes to Shield Forme immediately before using the move. Entering a floor causes Aegislash to change to Shield Forme. This Ability can neither be changed nor sealed.

Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, Stance Change is Aegislash's Ability. It allows the user to switch between Blade Forme and Shield Forme. Using a blade move changes the user to Blade Forme, which increases the user's movement speed, Attack, and basic attack speed. Using a shield move changes the user to Shield Forme, and its Defense and Special Defense are increased. For a short time after switching from Shield Forme to Blade Forme, the Pokémon's movement speed and basic attack speed are further increased for a short time.
