Merge request

Since both of these items listed boost experience gained from enemies, I was thinking that this page should be merged into experience-affecting item, with a subsection for spin-off series that incorporate these items. ht14 02:19, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Does the Exp Share gives the same amount of EVs or is it shared?

Same as switching does. Both Pokémon get the same effort points. TTEchidna 02:33, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Does that mean that both Pokemon get the full amount of EV? Like, say I fought a Golduck--would both Pokemon get the 2 Sp. Attack EVs, or would each only get 1? HerbieHero 19:15, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
Each pokemon will gain 2 EVs - so 4 EVs are gained total. --GoldenSandslash15 (talk) 03:57, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Daycare

As a pokemon recieves experience at around 1exp per step, would using an exp share make it 1.5 which rounds to 2?---Just Asking---Mattrules161 10:16, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't think exp share has any uses outside of battle, and since its in the daycare there is no other Pokémon to share exp with. So i dont think you would earn double exp by giving a pokémon a n expshare in the daycare ---> 223david 13:57, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
A poke can't share experience with itself, either. -- evkl (need to talk?) 14:04, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Exp. Share, Pokérus, and EV gain

I have a Milotic infected with the Pokérus, and holding the Exp. Share. It is the only Pokémon in my party, and I use it to beat Fisherman Andrew (who has 6 Magikarps). Magikarps normally give 1 EV to Speed each. How many EVs does my Milotic receive in this case, and how is this amount calculated?

I ask this because I am uncertain whether the Exp. Share doubles EVs like it doubles Exp when it is held by the sole combatant in the party. This makes it hard for me to track EVs, as I don't know if I'm getting 24 EVs (1 EV × 2 from Exp. Share × 2 from Pokérus × 6 Magikarps) or 12 EVs (no effect from Exp. Share). Fyda 23:10, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

It doesn't double experience when held by the only one who's sent out in battle. Both halves of the experience go to the same Pokémon. TTEchidna 20:04, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Lucky Egg

Does the effect of the Lucky Egg stack with trading? So a traded Pokémon recieves boosted....boosted EXP? Or does it have no effect? FrozenStrategy 17:39, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

I believe so. Like the EXP Share. —darklordtrom 23:57, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

HGSS

Should it be noted that in Heartgold and Soulsilver dose not double EXP if the pokemon holding it is the only one in the battle? (Kmanecke 02:28, 7 September 2010 (UTC))

What? What item are you talking about? PhantomJunkie 02:30, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
In my Diamond version, when the battle is won, the EXP share doubles the EXP gained. (Kmanecke 02:38, 7 September 2010 (UTC))
It shouldn't. The experience share doesn't change the total experience gained in any game, it just changes the distribution of the experience. If one of the Pokémon getting a share of the experience is at level 100 their share doesn't get redistributed, it's simply lost. Maybe you're seeing the effect of that? Werdnae (talk) 04:20, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Or maybe a glitch??? (Kmanecke 17:12, 7 September 2010 (UTC))

Change in Gen V?

I could be wrong about this change (i.e. it was implemented earlier), but when I use exp. share in Black, the amount of experience gained by each Pokémon isn't split. Instead, the values vary depending on which pokemon and/or level of the pokemon to which I have attached the exp. share.

In previous generations, didn't the exp. share split exp equally? Or perhaps in Gen V, exp given for a battle has changed?

--+ Joeshie + (is Mæ!) 04:06, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

In Generation V, the experience formula was changed to include the level of the winning pokémon, so the EXP Share gives half of what they would have gained if they had been the sole fighter in the battle. You can see that the same thing happens when you begin a battle with one pokémon and switch to another mid-battle. EnosShayrem 04:36, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Exp. Share in Sekka City

Recently I got a Exp. Share after talking to the Pokémon Fan Club President. First he gave me an item I don't remember after checking one of my Pokémon, then he checked another one and gave me the Exp Share. So in the BW Games it is possible to obtain 2 Epx. Shares- unsigned comment from RfO (talkcontribs)

How about through the lottery? --SnorlaxMonster 00:43, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I just got this yesterday, too. Apparently he'll give you one depending on the huge Level difference of your Pokemon: between the level it was caught and the level it is now. Naturally, my starter qualified. I have yet to see if it works on more than one. Knuclear200x 07:01, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Exp All

Where is it? It should be on this page! EXP SHARE was NOT introduced until generation two, and saying that the name is simply different is wrong, the item behaves completely differently! EXP ALL gave a small amount of experience to all party pokemon if the player had it in their inventory, nothing close to what EXP SHARE does. Can someone make a section for this item? I don't know how. - unsigned comment from Nokota (talkcontribs)

You are correct, they are different items. While the Exp. All became the Exp. Share, they are by no means the same item. Unlike the Park/Sport Ball example that was given, the item's function was significantly changed. I have return the page to how it was before this was changed. --SnorlaxMonster 03:48, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
Would it be that hard to just expand the template to see the info related to Generation I? I even tweaked it a little when posting it here on to remove the note and moved it to the piece about its effect in Generation I. ポケモンあいこうか 15:30, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
Difficulty was not the concern. They have different English names and behave quite differently. --SnorlaxMonster 15:36, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
So does Itemfinder being called Dowsing MCHN in the English releases of Generations IV and V. Yet it's called ダウジングマシン all the time in the Japanese versions. It also has a different way of interaction from Generations I-III. That still doesn't make it a different item. So why treat Exp. All and Exp. Share otherwise when the differences between them are comparable to those between the Itemfinder and the Dowsing MCHN? Especially since the Japanese name remained the same: がくしゅうそうち. ポケモンあいこうか 15:44, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
Because the Exp. Share and the EXP All had completely different effects and the Japanese names were different on them (unless I'm mistaken on that last part). The Itemfinder and Dowsing MCHN were both used to find hidden items, and, as you said, they have the same Japanese name. EnosShayrem 04:45, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
They both have the same Japanese name, gakushuu souchi. Bluesun 04:48, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
I see that the take is to keep it as is. However, I insist that the difference is mainly in the effect, since the item is still the same due to its Japanese name. This creates an inconsistency because other items that have had name changes outside of Japan as well as slight changes in effect weren't distinguished. It is thus illogical to create an exception in this situation, IMO. ポケモンあいこうか 21:25, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
If two items have similar effect and possess the same name in the Japanese versions, then they ARE the same one. That an item behaves differently between games or has different names in the localized version doesn't make it two separate objects. The Exp. Share and the Exp. All are clearly the same item, it's just that Gen II tweaked its effect to take advantage of the feature to equip items, and the translators saw themselves forced to give it a different name from its Gen I version, as "Exp. All" no longer fitted (since it only affected the Pokémon that held it, rather than all of the party's members). - Ericss 20:47, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
So now the consensus is to not include it _anywhere_? --Det (talk) 13:12, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
No, it has been combined with the Exp. Share as they are the same item. --SnorlaxMonster 09:57, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
I know, I did. --Det (talk) 11:44, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
It was there before your edit. --SnorlaxMonster 12:24, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
True. Is that needed as a note anymore, if it's more visible in the "main" section? --Det (talk) 15:32, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Couldn't Get Away!

Is there something about the Lucky Egg that makes it more difficult to escape wild Pokemon? Because I've been trying to farm Audinos with the Lucky Egg, and when I get something else, I am hardly ever able to run away from the battle, at least not with the Pokemon with the Egg. King Riolu 11:20, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Lucky Egg vs. Exp Share

While training with what I like to call the "Bait and Switch" method, (switching out the active Pokémon on the first turn of battle,) I came across a conundrum. Do you gain more exp. on the switch out Pokémon if it's holding the Exp. Share or the Lucky Egg?

It makes no difference if only two pokemon are used in the fight (the baiter and the switcher). A Lucky Egg is better if multiple pokemon are used though. --GoldenSandslash15 (talk) 03:57, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Lucky Egg in Gold/Silver?

So it's confirmed that Lucky Eggs in Generation II can only be obtained in Crystal, and there was absolutely no way of getting one before it was released (just like Celebi)? Because if that's the case, I won't be farming for one in my Gold version. - unsigned comment from Krisi (talkcontribs)

Well, this video confirms that Lucky Egg can also be found on Gold and Silver (you don't see it, but let's trust the player). hfc2X 05:34, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
My brother playing Silver confirmed that the Lucky Egg is indeed carried by wild Chansey. hfc2X 19:12, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Important discovery about Exp. Share and EV-Yield in Gen VI

Ok, So I have been training my Charizard, a Mienfoo, Ruffet and Vullaby with Exp. Share on, and battling hordes of Graveler and Geodude on Victory Road. As we know both species give out Def Ev-Yields.

The Meinfoo is lv 42, and for a bit I was switching him out with Charizard (Lv 95, I'm trying raise its def a little more before it hits 100) the Ruffet and Vullaby are both Lv 37 and neither have been in battle. They are also all infected with Pokérus.

Well I got curious to see if the Macho Brace stacks with Super Training, so I saved, gave it to Ruffet and when I got to the screen the Meinfoo, Ruffet and Vullaby all had insane Def EVs, which means that EV-Yield is also shared through Exp. Share. Yamitora1 (talk) 10:50, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

"The holding Pokémon also gains all EVs (stat experience in Generation II) that would be gained by defeating the opponent."
It has been since G2. The question is - are the EV items activated? Or something. Eridanus (talk) 11:56, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Well, we know the items do not work for super training. So its likely they also do not work here, but if they work via Lv up then they could work. I know the EV Yield article states "When a Pokémon is defeated in battle, it will give effort values to the Pokémon that participated in the battle against it." Non of these Pokémon save for Meinfoo actually participated in battle, and even then Meinfoo took a back seat so that Charizard could level up faster without distraction. There needs to be some more research into this. We don't even know if they are getting the Pokérus benefit added or not. Its one thing for an infected Pokémon who wins the battle, its a whole other beast for those that never step foot into it. Yamitora1 (talk) 12:27, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Exp. Share also gives EVs to any Pokémon it gives experience to (even if they gain none due to being Level 100). --SnorlaxMonster 03:54, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Exp. Share + Lucky Egg

Does the Lucky Egg boost experience gotten with the Exp. Share?? - unsigned comment from Mangaman13 (talkcontribs)

IIRC it does, my Doduo was getting a boost offline without Amie. --TruePikachu (talk) 03:05, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
Why did you do that? I had already noticed I had forgotten and signed it before you edited it.Mangaman13 (talk) 03:16, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
Lucky Egg does boost experience from the Exp. Share. --SnorlaxMonster 03:52, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

1/2 Exp twice in Gen II

a border looks cleaner

I made an animation to illustrate the phenomenon since the concept can be difficult to understand from words. (The wording we have is probably as good as it could be, but it's still a bit strange if you've never seen it happen.) I just don't know where we might put the image without crowding the template even more than it already is. Any ideas? --GARY-DOS (talk) 16:33, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

I don't see how it's hard to understand at all, but if it were really necessary, an animation would better fit on experience. glikglak 17:04, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Gen VI mechanics

I'm not really clear on how the Exp. Share breaks up experience in gen VI. Say you have a team of six, where Pokemon A and B participated and C, D, E, and F did not. How would the experience be divided, as percentages of the maximum?

1) A: 50% B: 50% C: 50% D: 50% E: 50% F: 50%

2) A: 25% B: 25% C: 12.5% D: 12.5% E: 12.5% F: 12.5%

3) A: 16.6% B: 16.6% C: 16.6% D: 16.6% E: 16.6% F: 16.6%

4) A: 33.3% B: 33.3% C: 8.3% D: 8.3% E: 8.3% F: 8.3%

Or is it some other breakdown? Shaarizad (talk) 16:54, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Experience isn't exactly divided. Everyone who appears in battle (without fainting) gets full experience. If Exp. Share is turned on, everyone else gets half experience. Tiddlywinks (talk) 17:59, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
I see. I didn't know until now that experience is no longer divided up among participants as of Generation VI. Shaarizad (talk) 18:25, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Post-merge discussion

Price check on Lucky Egg Gen II? Crystal says it sells for 100P, not 200. AK712 (talk) 18:58, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

You are correct. --Froggy25 (talk) 19:38, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Move

Now that Exp. Share and Lucky Egg have their own pages, this page (which only existed to avoid giving those items their own pages in the first place) is no longer necessary. However, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon items Miracle Chest and Wonder Chest are currently only covered on this article, so the most logical choice is to turn this into an article about those two items specifically. --SnorlaxMonster 15:09, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
