Talk:Torterra (Pokémon)
Diamond's Torterra
Diamond owned a Turtwig which he nicknamed Roo in the Pokémon Special manga which evolved into a Grotle simultaneously with Chimlord(a Chimchar)and Piplup Eterna City and then he evolved into his last evolution in Vielstone along with Chimlord
What on Earth does this mean? I don't want to correct the grammar for fear of getting the information out of whack. Recalcitrancy 19:48, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- It basically means Diamond owned a Turtwig. It evolved into a Grotle, and then a Torterra. There's no need to get into a lot of detail about where it evolved or anything, so I just edited it and made it simpler. - s.Combusken 20:02, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
"Covers" all weaknesses
There's a note in the trivia that points out that all the types which Torterra is vulnerable to are in turn vulnerable to Rock type attacks. It also says that this means a rock type attack "covers" all of Torterra's defences. I've edited this but I don't know if I phrased it right. The idea that a rock type attack covers these defences is inaccurate, one of the fire types that Torterra will undoubtedly be pitted against is Infernape, which as Fire/Fighting doesn't have a weakness to rock types, but can use fire attacks to assault Torterra's weakness. The same is true of other type combinations, or pokémon using fire or ice type attacks without being fire or ice types themselves (like a Hitmonchan using Fire Punch or Ice Punch). I'm not quite sure how this should be phrased. Perhaps the trivia should just be trimmed so that the covering bit is gone completely? Darien Shields 06:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I removed it. We don't us metagame information on 'pedia articles if we can avoid it. --((Marton imos)) 06:33, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Bullcrap
it says that it is the only sinnoh starter with a double weakness but empoleon is water/steel and therefore has a double weakness to electric→→→ Shiny Rayquaza 23:41, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- Steel isn't weak to Electric, though it's not very effective against it. |3urn •57R1K3 23:42, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Shiny Variations Between Games
So, did Torterra not have a blue body in it's HGSS shiny sprite because of the changed color palette? If so, maybe that can be mentioned in the trivia. It's a more noticeable difference than the changes other Pokemon experienced. Grei 01:11, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- I think it is mentioned in the trivia. You never know, it could be a colouring error (maybe). We'll have to wait till Black and White come out to be sure. ~Takhareon 01:39, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- Erhem. No sprite trivia please. ht14 01:42, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well... generally we ban sprite trivia if it's something dumb like 'ITS COLOR CHANGED FROM A DEEP CRIMSON TO AN ORANGE-RED!'. But this is kind of a big difference, since it goes from blue to tan... in which in all games beforehand, it was blue, but then it suddenly changes tan. Without any other changes to the sprite (ie: lighting differences and crap). Huh. ▫▪Ťïňắ ♫♥ 01:45, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

please don't assume
Their bulk no longer allows them to withdraw into their shells as easily as they could as Turtwig, though it gives a sufficient amount of protection from foes.
I'm deleting because someone just assumed since Torterra is bulkier than turtwig he can't fit in his shell as well. UNREAL 23:51, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Trivia
Is it just me or could the pokédex entry be a reference to The Great A'tuin of the Discworld? Because that's one hell of a coinsidence if not. LessQQmorePewPew 07:20, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- It is quite likely, especially since it is based on a World Turtle. --SnorlaxMonster 07:44, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Type effectivenes...
Is it me, or is it the only starter which loses type advantage to the type it's strong? Does it's a trivia worthy? (or maybe it's already there, and I didn't noticed it) Marked +-+-+ 12:36, 3 September 2011 (UTC) WAIT. ;___;Marked +-+-+ 12:37, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
name origin
perhaps terror might have had some influence. I mean I would be pretty scared if I saw a 7 foot turtle outside my house. 0danmaster0 (talk) 10:01, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- Rather not, since this is... Y(our)M(ileage)M(ay)V(ary) "proof". Marked +-+-+ (talk) 10:04, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Possible origin
I think it's plausible that the Torterra line may also based on the tendency of aquatic turtles to build up moss on their skin and shells, such as in the Mary River turtle. —TheVeryBest 00:29, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
Base Stat Total
Is it relevant that Venusaur, Meganium, and Torterra all have the lowest base stat total of all fully evolved starters? UmbralHero (talk) 02:42, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
- Three out of 18 is too large for such a small group. And you don't need to put the same question on multiple pages. glikglak 02:45, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
On origin section...
I would argue that Torterra more closely resembles Meiolania[1] or other Meiolaniidae. Proganochelys might also be a basis[2], but I doubt it considering its smaller size. Trainer Yusuf (talk) 10:55, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
