Critical Captures
Well, my source is my own experience. I saw Pokémon several times breaking out after two shakes though critical capture. The first time I was surprised, because I read on this page before that with one shake the capture would be sure. But I definitely saw Pokémon breaking out while critical captures after both first and second shakes, so it's clear to me, that there must be two shake checks.
(Furthermore I saw them breaking out within all four different shake steps, so there must be also four all in all.)
But what Tiddlywinks recently has done is muddle. He also changed the probability for the non-critical capture for different generations which should be wrong. Regardless of three or four shakes - the whole probability remains the same. (0.39% in the example)

- Let's continue this discussion at Catch rate#Critical catch shakes in Gen VI. That way any of us can freely respond without constantly activating a third party's "new message" notification. (And that's where your comment belongs, anyway.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 15:35, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
FRLG HP bar
I just happened to notice this battling Gary as the E4 champ. At the end of a turn, my Fearow got hurt by the ambient Sandstorm (courtesy of Tyranitar) and its HP fell to 146 of its 282 max HP, and the HP bar turned yellow. But 146*2 is 292; it's more than half Fearow's max HP. Perhaps you could check FRLG and/or Gen III like you did Gen I and see if the Gen I info you just posted persisted into Gen III, or if maybe FRLG reused RBY's HP bar logic. (At any rate, this is one thing I'm not sure how I could figure out on my own, so I thought I'd toss this your way in case you might be interested.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:37, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
Or...looking at the HP bar closely again, it certainly does look like the bar is at 50% of its total length. Maybe that's the real condition (up to a certain generation/game?), rather than 50% of hit points. Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:40, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, while the source code for R/B/Y and G/S/C is available in handy public Github repos with meaningful searchable labels thanks to their respective disassembly projects, finding the bit of code that colors the HP bar in the third-generation games is a lot more involved and time-consuming. It's probably easier to just do some manual testing. Dragonfree (talk) 02:53, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
Gen VI catch rate
It's cool you added Gen VI catch rate info. I'm intrigued as to how that information was determined, what with the 3DS being (for the time being) generally harder to investigate than the DS was/is. Could you indulge my curiosity and try to explain it a bit? Tiddlywinks (talk) 15:13, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- The ROM was decrypted a while ago; that's how we know e.g. catch rates for sixth-generation Pokémon species. So the 3DS encryption wasn't so much the issue anymore. As for how magical actually found the capture routine, ask him! I'm honestly not sure. Dragonfree (talk) 15:23, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- If someone else found it, I might just be too lazy to find and ask them. =P But I didn't realize it was possible to find that sort of thing—whether from the decrypted ROM or whatever, instead of brute-forcing it or something. That'll be good for me to know. Thanks. Tiddlywinks (talk) 16:29, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
