Debut Curtain Up, Unova League!

Vertress City (Japanese: ヒガキシティ Higaki City) is an animated series-exclusive location in the Unova region found near Opelucid City. As the site of the Vertress Conference, it features facilities for competing Trainers similar to previous Pokémon League locations.

The city was first mentioned by Jervis in Beauties Battling for Pride and Prestige!, when he informed Ash on the location of Unova's League Conference. Ash and his friends arrived there in Curtain Up, Unova League!. While signing up for the tournament, Ash met up with his rivals Trip, Bianca, Stephan, and Virgil again. He eventually encountered Cameron, who was camping just outside the hotel where contestants stay. Realizing that he had not signed up yet, Ash dragged and brought him to Nurse Joy for the registration.

Ash, Iris, and Cilan left Vertress City for Nuvema Town in A Unova League Evolution!.

Vertress Stadium

Main article: Vertress Conference

Located in the northernmost section of the city, the Vertress Stadium is the site of the Vertress Conference. It consists of one big stadium surrounded by four smaller ones. The center stadium is where the final rounds of the Vertress Conference take place, while the preliminary and qualifying rounds of the competition are held in the surrounding stadiums.

The stadium is the largest structure in Vertress City, occupying nearly one half of its total area. Besides the Pokémon Trainers who have collected at least eight Unova Gym Badges, it attracts many tourists who come to see the battles conducted during the tournament.

On the first day of the competition, an Officer Jenny carrying the Pokémon League torch lights up the cauldron located in the center stadium, officially kicking off the event.

Vertress Hotel

The Vertress Hotel sits atop a hill and is the place where the Pokémon Trainers who completed the requirements to enter the Vertress Conference stay at during the tournament. It has a dining hall where meals are served, a sauna where Trainers may go to rest in between battles, and a room filled with PCs and machines that allow Trainers to easily transfer Pokémon.
