Hydro Cannon (Japanese: ハイドロカノン Hydro Cannon) is a damage-dealing Water-type move introduced in Generation III. Only Water-type fully evolved starter Pokémon can learn this move.

Effect

Hydro Cannon inflicts damage and then forces the user to recharge during the next turn. Unless this attack misses, the user will always have to recharge.

Hydro Cannon can also be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining extra four appeal points if the move Rain Dance was used in the prior turn.

Various Move Tutors will teach Hydro Cannon to a fully evolved Water-type starter Pokémon. From Generation III to VII, the Pokémon also needs a maximized friendship rating. The Move Tutors are:

In Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, Hydro Cannon is a move with 30 base power, 9 PP and 84% accuracy. The attack travels up to 10 tiles away and hits the first Pokémon it encounters, ally or enemy. If the move hits a Pokémon successfully, the user is inflicted with Paused status condition for 1-2 turns, preventing them from acting on these turns.

In Explorers of Time and Darkness, the move's PP is decreased to 6.

In Explorers of Sky, the move's power is raised to 33.

Since Hydro Cannon is exclusively a tutor move in main series, it is taught differently in Mystery Dungeon:
