Milo (Japanese: ヤロー Yarrow) is the Gym Leader of Turffield's Gym, known officially as Turffield Stadium. He specializes in Grass-type Pokémon. He gives the Grass Badge to Trainers who defeat him.
In the games
Milo is the first Gym Leader Galarian Trainers face in their Gym Challenge. He is a farmer that honed his skills working on his farm with his Pokémon, and can be often seen in Turffield trying to wrangle wandering Wooloo with his farm's herding Yamper. Despite his size and strength, Milo is a gentle, laid-back Trainer who has trouble giving it his all on weaker opponents and doesn't worry about winning or losing so long as each party is having fun. Nessa considers Milo her rival, as revealed in her League Card, but Milo doesn't seem to acknowledge this, claiming the only rival he has is himself.
League Cards
This is a transcript of the back of Milo's League Cards in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
- Normal League Card
- "This Trainer was born as the son of farmers. He has honed his strength, stamina, and skill as a Pokémon Trainer from a young age by working together with his Pokémon. Because of his gentle nature, he has trouble going all out on weaker opponents, which is why his Gym is the first one for challengers to attempt during the Gym Challenge. He always wears his boots, as apparently they let him dig in his heels when he needs to."
- Rare League Card
- "Though his record isn't the best due to his focus on simply having fun in battles, Milo himself is incredibly strong. The rolls of hay used in his Gym Challenge each weigh over 770 pounds, yet Milo can roll them around easily. Wooloo tend to roll around, too, and sometimes they can get carried away and roll out of the Gym Stadium. It has become common in Turffield to see the whole town chasing after Milo, who is in turn chasing after a stray Wooloo, along with Yamper."
Pokémon
Milo keeps his Pokémon in Ultra Balls.

- Turffield
- "Wooloo! Where do you think you’re going?!"
- "My... Are you OK? You took that Tackle head on..."
- "Hmmm? Oh, you must be one of those Gym Challengers, right?"
- "Yes, indeed!": "Ahhh, I thought so. I saw you at the opening ceremony."
- "No, I’m not": "Oh please, are you trying to have me on? I saw you at the opening ceremony!"
- "My name’s Milo. I’m a Gym Leader and rather partial to Grass-type Pokémon."
- "I’ve been itching to see just how good the Champion-endorsed Gym Challengers are... Let me find out at the Gym Stadium! Just head on through this route, and you’ll run right into my stadium. See you there!"
- "Come on now. Back to the stadium with you, too! We can’t keep the Gym Challengers waiting!"
- Turffield Stadium
- "My Gym’s the first one people face, so we get a lot of challengers. That’s why I try to keep the Gym mission challenging, but..."
- "that didn’t stop you from completing it, <player>! Proper job!"
- "Sure seems like you understand Pokémon real well. This is gonna be a doozy of a battle! I’ll have to Dynamax my Pokémon if I want to win!"
- Upon sending out last Pokémon
- "Woohoo! We’re not going to be done in that easy! We’re tough as weeds!"
- Upon using Dynamax
- "Come on, then! It’s Dynamax time! You’re about to be uprooted!"
- Upon using Max Overgrowth
- "This’ll really leave you in shock and awe. It’s our Dynamax move!"
- Upon being defeated
- "The power of Grass has wilted... What an incredible Gym Challenger!"
- After being defeated
- "That must have been a fulfilling Pokémon battle for you!"
- "As proof that you have defeated a Gym Leader for the Gym Challenge, allow me to present you with your very own Grass Badge!"
- "You need to obtain all eight Gym Badges in order to complete the Gym Challenge. And the only way to gather the Badges is to defeat every Gym Leader!"
- "Some advice for you, <player>. The Gym Challenge has a set order you’ll need to follow. So that means your next stop should be in Hulbury to meet Nessa. Hulbury’s just beyond Route 5. Or since you’re got the Grass Badge, you could head to the Wild Area. It’s a bit tricky to catch Pokémon that are a higher level than the Pokémon on your team, but they make powerful allies if you succeed!"
- Wyndon Stadium (Champion Cup Locker Room)
- "My first match is against Raihan of all people? What rotten luck... But even if he changes the weather around, I don't plan on throwing in the towel so easy."
- Turffield Stadium (Sordward and Shielbert)
- "Hello there, Champion! So, you came!"
- "What's going on here?" : "I was actually in the middle of an exhibition match with Piers. Then this Dynamax Pokémon came charging in."
- "Much obliged, Hop! I'd expect nothing less from a Gym Challenger. I knew we could count on you."
- "Hm. Those suspicious characters you saw are concerning... But for now, I think we should get this Dynamax Pokémon to settle down first! I'd be glad for your help against such a tough-looking opponent, Champion <player>."
- "Of course!" : "All right. Then let's head to the pitch."
- "Piers might look scary, but he's great at looking after others. He's a big brother, after all. All right, we should get going, too."
- "Phew... Looks like things've finally calmed down a bit."
- "I can see your dislike of Dynamaxing still hasn't changed, Piers. But there was definitely something off about that Dynamax transformation..."
- "Quite right... Normally, a Pokémon needs to respond to a Dynamax Band in order to Dynamax, but..."
- "Did you feel anything unusual, <player>?"
- "I did" : "So you noticed something was off, too. There's no Trainer to be found. This really is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. I'll make sure Turffield Gym takes good care of this Pokémon for the time being. You lot really helped me out here. Thanks for that. Oh, and <player>! If you should ever need my help, feel free to call me anytime."
- "All right then. Follow me, little Tsareena."
- Wyndon Stadium (Champion Cup Rematch)
- Before battle
- "Don't think I'm the same Milo as in the Gym Challenge! You're the great Champion, after all. It'd be rude not to go all out!"
- Upon being defeated
- "The power of Grass has been wilted... You're quite the Champion!"
- After being defeated
- "Soon you'll be the one to face down Gym Challengers aiming for your title. I can't wait to see what talent grows!"
- Isle of Armor Random Encounters
- When first spoken to
- "Hello there, <player>! Are you drinking in the Isle of Armor's natural beauty, too?"
- "I like to get out here now and again. It's a nice spot for taking it easy, don't you think?"
- If found in Fields of Honor
- "Isn't all this unspoiled nature on the island lovely? Look how cheery it's got little Tsareena!"
- If found in Forest of Focus
- "All this lush foliage makes for such a pleasant forest stroll. I should've packed a picnic!"
- If found on Challenge Road
- "Wooloo's got such a fluffy, thick fleece, it could take a tumble from heights like these and still be right as rain!"
- If found in Courageous Cavern
- "OI! Oi...oi...o...i... Don't caves like this make you want to shout just to hear the echo?"
- If found on Challenge Beach or Training Lowlands
- "Look at this great blue sea! If Nessa were here, I bet she'd be over the moon! Not that she’d let it show..."
- If found in Potbottom Desert
- "This is far from the friendliest environment for Grass-type Pokémon, but some plants actually thrive in deserts like this!"
- During harsh sunlight or clear skies
- "Harsh sunlight actually livens up some Grass-type Pokémon! But on the other hand, it means they're in for an even worse time than usual if they go up against Fire types..."
- During overcast conditions
- "The weather here on the isle is so fickle! It sort of reminds me of battling Raihan, actually. Makes me a tad nervous..."
- During rain or thunderstorms
- "Ahhh, nothing like a spot of rain! Time for all the isle's lovely greenery to have a drink."
- During a sandstorm
- "My hat's meant for farm work, but it comes in quite handy during weather like this. It's a lifesaver in battle!"
- During foggy conditions
- "Oh, it's you, <player>! If you keep running about in this thick fog, you'll slam right into me and go flying!"
- Wyndon Stadium (Galarian Star Tournament)
-
- Partnering with Milo
- In the locker room before the first round
- "It's quite the honor, getting handpicked by the reigning Champion. So let's have a great time together, taking it nice and slow."
- In the locker room before the second round
- "Everyone out here is really strong. I guess I can't let my guard down just yet! But I'm not too worried. No matter who I'm up against, I've got you with me, <player>."
- In the locker room before the last round
- "We're finally here at the end. Let's throw everything we've got at our last opponents and bowl'em over!"
- On the field before the first round battle
- "Well then, shall we get this haystack rolling, <player>?"
- On the field before the second round battle
- "I think you and I can harvest a victory from the second battle, too."
- On the field before the last round battle
- "The two of us working together can tear out any opponent by the roots!"
- Winning the Tournament
- "That's just like you, <player>! All my Grass-type Pokemon are delighted with this first-place win!"
- Against Raihan
- "I guess now's my chance to get even for my defeat in the Finals, Raihan!"
- Against Nessa and Kabu
- "It's interesting when you think about it. The three of us are weak against each other's type!"

Pokémon Adventures
Milo debuted in Chomp!! Defeat Drednaw. He, along with various other Gym Leaders, was first seen reacting to the news that Leon had endorsed two Trainers for the Gym Challenge.
In Watch Out!! Strong Rivals, Milo faced Henry, Casey, Hop, Bede, and Marnie in a series of Gym battles at Turffield Stadium and lost. Later, he, Nessa, and Kabu personally congratulated Casey and Hop for completing the first three Galar Gyms.
In PASS25, the Galar Gym Leaders gathered at Rose Tower to find out if Rose intended on bringing harm to the region. While Oleana kept the Gym Leaders busy, Henry, Casey, Bede, Hop, and Marnie went up to meet Rose, only find he was elsewhere. On a video screen, Rose announced his intention to restart the Darkest Day and ensure the safety of Galar's future. Power Spot lights began appearing all over the region, causing Pokémon to start Dynamaxing at random. While some traveled to confront Rose at the Hammerlocke Energy Plant, Milo went back to Turffield to help deal with the rampaging Dynamax Pokémon.
Macro Cosmos employees were dispatched to deal with the Dynamax Pokémon, allowing Milo's group to provide backup for the others against Eternatus. By the time they arrived, Milo's group found Eternatus had fled, leaving those who battled it unconscious and covered in its poison. The injured were taken to a hospital to recover.

Gossifleur is Milo's first known Pokémon. It was first used to battle Henry's Steeler, but was quickly defeated.
