Return to New Bark
New Bark Town
Congratulations, you are now the Indigo League Champion! That marks you as the strongest Trainer in all of Johto and Kanto.
After the credits end, you find yourself back in New Bark Town. Professor Elm calls a moment later, asking that you visit the lab. Pay him a visit to receive the S.S. Ticket, a boarding pass for the S.S. Aqua in Olivine City.

After the credits roll, you wind up back home in New Bark. Elm calls shortly after, asking you to visit the lab. Swing by to get the S.S. Ticket, a pass to board the S.S. Aqua in Olivine City. Head to the harbor to set sail for Vermilion City!
Olivine City
Olivine Port
Enter the building on the south side of town to reach the port. Speak to the Sailor to present the S.S. Ticket and board the ship for Kanto's Vermilion City.

Upon boarding the ship, a frantic old man runs into you. His granddaughter is missing, and he asks for your help before running off. Luckily, there are only so many places where she could be on the ship. Before starting the search, check you your cabin at the west end of the hallway; it has a PC and a cozy bed to rest in, which is important to have with so many Trainers on board.
The S.S. Aqua uses hydraulic power to skim across the ocean, making for a speedy voyage between Johto's Olivine City and Kanto's Vermilion City. It is one of the more convenient means of travel between the two regions.

Upper deck
1F
Two of the other cabins on the north side are empty, while the one between them has a Hiker. On the south side, only one cabin is unoccupied; the cabin near the stairs belongs to the old man, the next has a PokéFan and a pair of Twins, while the last has a Firebreather. No little girl to be found, so check out the lower deck.
Missing Child
Soon after boarding the ship, a Gentleman bumps into you. The man is distraught, and apologies as he explains that his young granddaughter is missing. He asks that you let him know if she is found, and hurries off to continue his search.

Lower deck
The Search Begins
A Sailor blocks the way, and asks that you track down another Sailor for their shift change. This Sailor is snoozing in the cabin next to yours; beat him in battle and he returns to his post. Further along, there is a Juggler hunched over a trash can, and a Sailor and a Picnicker beyond that. The western stairs lead to the Captain's cabin.
Professor Elm's S.S. Ticket reserves the cabin at the far end of the first hallway, marked by a Sailor standing just outside. The room features a PC and a cozy bed, the perfect place to take a nap and restore health.

Captain's cabin
Two of the other cabins nearest the entrance are empty, while Hiker Noland can be found in the one between them. On the opposide side of the ship, the cabin nearest the stairs belongs to the grandfather. The next cabin over belongs to PokéFan Colin and Twins Meg & Peg. The fourth cabin is empty, and the last one belongs to Firebreather Lyle. There is no unaccompanied little girl to be found here, so head downstairs to check the lower deck.
The little girl is with the Captain, safe but bored, and keeps trying to get him to play. Realizing that her grandfather is worried about her, she runs off and you both end up in the old man's cabin. For taking care of his granddaughter, he rewards you with a Metal Coat, a power-up for Steel attacks and an essential part of Steelix Scizor evolutions. Just then, the Captain announces that the ship has docked in Vermilion Harbor, and passengers may now disembark.

B1F
A Sailor blocks the way. Speak to him, and he asks that you find another Sailor for him as he cannot leave his post.

1F
Sailor Stanly can now be found in the cabin next to your own. He claims that he was not goofing off, but that the room was vacant, so he took a quick nap. Defeat him, and he returns to his post.

B1F
The Sailor thanks you for finding Stanly, and mentions that he may have seen a little girl around here. In the nearest room, the seasick Juggler Fritz is hunched over a trash can. Sailor Jeff can be found in the second room, and Picnicker Debra stands in the hallway. There is still no little girl to be seen, so take the stairs up to the captain's cabin.

1F
Captain's cabin
The little girl is located here, safe but bored, and keeps trying to get the captain to play with her. Realizing that her grandfather has been worried about her, she rushes off and you both return to the grandfather's cabin. As thanks for seeing his granddaughter returned safely, he rewards you with a Metal Coat. A moment later, the captain announces that the ship has now arrived in Vermilion City. After this initial trip to Kanto, the ship sails from Kanto to Johto every Sunday and Wednesday, and from Johto to Kanto every Monday and Friday.

Vermilion City has not changed much over the past three years, though the land around Diglett's Cave has shifted a bit. A sleeping Snorlax blocks the path to the east, and the old man is still clearing the ground for construction with his Machop. Stop by the Poké Mart if you need more Potions or Poké Balls, then visit the Pokémon Fan Club on the west side.
Vermilion City is a popular port city located between 6 and 11. Vermilion Harbor sees many ships coming and going, and the Pokémon Fan Club is located on the west side of town. The eastern exit, and the east end of Diglett's Cave, are currently blocked by a sleeping Snorlax. The Vermilion Gym stands in the southwest.

The Vermilion Gym specializes in Electric Pokémon, so avoid using Water or Flying Pokémon. Conversely, Ground Pokémon are not only immune to electrical attacks, but their Ground-type attacks inflict serious damage on Electric Pokémon.
The Vermilion Gym specializes in Electric Pokémon. Electric-type moves are super effective against Flying- and Water Pokémon, while Electric-type Pokémon are weak to Ground moves.

Lt. Surge has three Gym Trainers, but his hidden switches are broken so you can walk right up to him. His Magneton knows the useful Lock-On-and-Zap Cannon combo, which inflicts serious damage and paralysis, and his two Electrode may Explosion without warning. If the battle drags on for too long, his Pokémon may be harder to hit thanks to Double Team. Use the 26 from Victory Road to sweep through his five Pokémon.
The Gym features an array of trash cans, two of which conceal a hidden switch. Normally, these two switches must be found and flipped in order to unlock the door to the Gym Leader's room. However, they are currently inactive, so there are no puzzles to solve before reaching the Gym Leader.

{{User:KCorp4000/Gymtag
Lt. Surge's Magneton knows the powerful Zap Cannon attack. Though guaranteed to cause paralysis, it has only 50% Accuracy; however, using Lock-On first ensures that it connects with the target. His two Electrode are nearly identical, so be aware that either one could Explosion without warning. Ground Pokémon are immune to Electric attacks, but a good alternative would be to use Grass Pokémon, as they resist Electric moves. Electric Pokémon tend to higher Speed, so consider making use of items like Quick Claw and X Speed.

Defeated, Lt. Surge awards you the Thunder, which gives your party members a Speed boost during battle. That's all, though; unlike the Johto Gym Leaders, only two of their Kanto counterparts give out TMs.

With Snorlax blocking the east road, the only way forward is north to 6.
After the battle, Lt. Surge awards you the Thunder, which gives your Pokémon a slight Speed boost during battle.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Gold and Silver.
These pages follow the original Game Boy Color iteration, not Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. The guide for those games can be found here.

New Bark Town

After the credits end, you find yourself back in New Bark Town. Professor Elm calls a moment later, asking that you visit the lab. Pay him a visit to receive the S.S. Ticket, a boarding pass for the S.S. Aqua in Olivine City.

Olivine City

Olivine Port

Enter the building on the south side of town to reach the port. Speak to the Sailor to present the S.S. Ticket and board the ship for Kanto's Vermilion City.

The S.S. Aqua uses hydraulic power to skim across the ocean, making for a speedy voyage between Johto's Olivine City and Kanto's Vermilion City. It is one of the more convenient means of travel between the two regions.

Missing Child

Soon after boarding the ship, a Gentleman bumps into you. The man is distraught, and apologies as he explains that his young granddaughter is missing. He asks that you let him know if she is found, and hurries off to continue his search.

The Search Begins

Professor Elm's S.S. Ticket reserves the cabin at the far end of the first hallway, marked by a Sailor standing just outside. The room features a PC and a cozy bed, the perfect place to take a nap and restore health.

Vermilion City

Vermilion City

Vermilion City is a popular port city located between Route 6 and Route 11. Vermilion Harbor sees many ships coming and going, and the Pokémon Fan Club is located on the west side of town. The eastern exit, and the east end of Diglett's Cave, are currently blocked by a sleeping Snorlax. The Vermilion Gym stands in the southwest.

Pokémon Fan Club

The Pokémon Fan Club is located on the west side of town. Members meet here to discuss everything about their favorite Pokémon, and include a woman with her Bayleef and a man with his Clefairy—or rather, a Poké Doll that looks like a Clefairy. Speak to the chairman to hear a long-winded story about his prized Rapidash. He eventually realizes how long he has been speaking, and gives you a Rare Candy as thanks for hearing him out.

Vermilion Gym

Leader: Lt. Surge

The Lightning American

The Vermilion Gym specializes in Electric-type Pokémon. Electric-type moves are super effective against Flying- and Water-type Pokémon, while Electric-type Pokémon are weak to Ground-type moves.

The Gym features an array of trash cans, two of which conceal a hidden switch. Normally, these two switches must be found and flipped in order to unlock the door to the Gym Leader's room. However, they are currently inactive, so there are no puzzles to solve before reaching the Gym Leader.

Lt. Surge's Magneton knows the powerful Zap Cannon attack. Though guaranteed to cause paralysis, it has only 50% Accuracy; however, using Lock-On first ensures that it connects with the target. His two Electrode are nearly identical, so be aware that either one could explode without warning. Ground-type Pokémon are immune to Electric attacks, but a good alternative would be to use Grass-type Pokémon, as they resist Electric moves. Electric Pokémon tend to higher Speed, so consider making use of items like Quick Claw and X Speed.

Thunder Badge

After the battle, Lt. Surge awards you the Thunder Badge, which gives your Pokémon a slight Speed boost during battle.
