Rideable Pokémon is a feature in various Pokémon games, in which the player can ride on top Pokémon as a means of transportation.

In the core series games

Various forms of rideable Pokémon have been introduced in the core series games, debuting in generation I. These vary from field moves and HMs to the Ride Pokémon found in various regions.

Field moves

The player can ride on Pokémon through the use of some field moves. Field moves often come in the form of HMs, but not always. This form of transportation can be found in the first six regions that debuted between generations I - IV. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, traditional HMs were removed, no longer needing to teach a Pokémon a field move in their party to use, but instead, uses the Pokétch to summon wild Pokémon that know the move to perform the task instead.

Many field moves and HMs were replaced starting in generation VII, having similar functions that would otherwise retain the same purpose. Field moves briefly reappeared in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Flying Taxi

Introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield the Flying Taxi is a form of transportation that allows people to move from one location to another, often towns and cities. In the Galar region, this service is often piloted by a Corviknight. In Paldea, the Flying Taxi is controlled by a group of Squawkabilly due to the dangers of Corviknight being struck down by Tinkaton. The player can fly to any Pokémon Center or one of the Ten Sights of Paldea through the Flying Taxi. In Kitakami, this service is instead piloted by Noctowl.

Kanto

Kanto has introduced the concept of field moves. In generation VII, certain Secret Techniques can be taught to the player's partner, allowing for transportation on water and air. rather than needing Surf or Fly.

Walking Pokémon

In Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, many Pokémon who are taken outside their Poké Balls cane be ridden. These essentially replace the need for certain field moves and items that are no longer found in this version of Kanto.

In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, the player can ride on certain large Walking Pokémon.

Hoenn

Field Moves

Hoenn retains the usage of field moves. Certain Pokémon have unique models in the overworld in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire while surfing and diving. These Pokémon include Lapras, Wailmer, Sharpedo and Kyogre, each having their own properties and functions.

Introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the player can be seen riding on Pokémon outside the use of field moves. After obtaining the Eon Flute, they can summon Latias or Latios to soar through the air.

During sections of the game, the player will ride on either Groudon^OR or Kyogre^AS during the main story and Rayquaza during the Delta Episode.

Kalos

Field moves

Like the previous generations before it, Kalos has multiple usages of HMs and field moves. New to X and Y, the Pokémon Lapras has a unique model in the overworld while surfing. This function is completely cosmetic.

Other Pokémon

In Pokémon X and Y, there are certain areas that allow the riding of specific Pokémon within a particular area only, with some of the Pokémon having special abilities that can be used within that area. The player cannot ride their own Pokémon even if they own a Pokémon of the same species.

Rhyhorn		On Route 9, the player needs to ride Rhyhorn to traverse rocky terrain. The Rhyhorn can also smash rocks blocking the path.	Route 9
Skiddo		On Route 12, the player can ride on Skiddo from Baa de Mer Ranch. The Skiddo can jump over low fences and ledges in the opposite direction.	Route 12
Mamoswine		On Route 17, the player can ride Mamoswine to traverse the deep snow. It can smash rocks blocking the path. Wild Pokémon may also appear on snow tiles.	Route 17

Alola

Starting in Pokémon Sun and Moon, field moves from previous games have been replaced with other functions. Many people within Alola take note that unlike other regions, HMs and field moves do not work, preferring the usage of the Ride Pokémon that used.

During the plot of Pokémon Sun and Moon the player and Lillie will ride the newly evolved Nebby, who transports them to the Ultra Deep Sea and back to Alola.

Poké Ride

Main article: Poké Ride

In the Alola region, certain Pokémon are trained as Ride Pokémon to help people travel or perform other tasks with the Poké Ride service. In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, the player can call Ride Pokémon after registering them to their Ride Pager. Mantine used for Mantine Surf cannot be summoned through usage of the Ride Pager and can only be used in Alola's oceans, serving as transportation from each of Alola's four main islands.

Both the player and the Ultra Recon Squad use a special Solgaleo and Lunala to help traverse through Ultra Space in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. This notable function is known as Ultra Warp Ride.

Solgaleo Lunala		Ultra Warp RideUSUM	Allows the player to travel through Ultra Wormholes in order to gain access to various different areas of Ultra Space.

Hisui

Ride Pokémon

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player can ride on five Ride Pokémon to travel across Hisui. These Pokémon can be summoned at any time through usage of the Celestica Flute.

Paldea

Paldea is known for the Cyclizar that are often used as Ride Pokémon to travel through the region.

Koraidon and Miraidon

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the player can ride on either Koraidon^S Miraidon^V. Helping them traverse through Paldea. The Pokémon will gain new attributes after collecting certain Herba Mystica.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, the player must ride on Lapras to reach the Hidden Land. In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, the player can ride on Lapras to travel between different continents.

Pokémon Ranger series

In the Pokémon Ranger series, several Pokémon have field moves that allow the player to ride on a Pokémon's back:

• Floatzel
• Empoleon
• Staraptor

In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, the player can draw the call sign for several Pokémon that can then be ridden on:

• Raikou
• Entei
• Suicune
• Latios/Latias

Detective Pikachu series

In Detective Pikachu Returns, the player has access to one of several ride actions by having Detective Pikachu ride on a Pokémon:
