Return to New Bark
The S.S. Aqua uses hydraulic power to skim across the ocean, making for a speedy voyage between Johto's Olivine City and Kanto's Vermilion City. It is one of the more convenient means of travel between the two regions.

Congratulations, you are now the Indigo League Champion! That major accomplishment means that you are the strongest Trainer in all of Johto and Kanto.  However, just because the League is behind you, that doesn't mean the game is over. <br>

Missing Child
Soon after boarding the ship, a Gentleman bumps into you. The man is distraught, and apologies as he explains that his young granddaughter is missing. He asks that you let him know if she is found, and hurries off to continue his search.

Fast Ship S.S. Aqua
The Search Begins
Professor Elm's S.S. Ticket reserves the cabin at the far end of the first hallway, marked by a Sailor standing just outside. The room features a PC and a cozy bed, the perfect place to take a nap and restore health.

Upon boarding the ship, an old man will run into you. His granddaughter is missing, and asks for your help before running off.  First thing's first, though - check out your cabin at the west end of the hallway. It has a PC and a cozy bed to heal your Pokémon, good to have with all of these Trainers onboard. <br><br>
Two of the other cabins nearest the entrance are empty, while Hiker Noland can be found in the one between them. On the opposide side of the ship, the cabin nearest the stairs belongs to the grandfather. The next cabin over belongs to PokéFan Colin and Twins Meg & Peg. The fourth cabin is empty, and the last one belongs to Firebreather Lyle. There is no unaccompanied little girl to be found here, so head downstairs to check the lower deck.
You need to search every room to find the missing girl, but she can't have gotten too far.

Step out of your cabin, and check out those other rooms.  The nearest cabin is empty, but the room beyond that has a Hiker.  The northeast cabin is another empty room. Walk down the eastern hallway, past the stairs, and check the rooms on the south side.  The room closest to the stairs is the grandfather's room.  Room #6 hosts two battles, a PokéFan and a pair of Twins.  Cabin #7 is also empty, and the southwest cabin has a single Firebreather. <br><br>
B1F
You've inspected the cabins on this floor and still no luck, so try the lower floor.  The sailor here blocks your way, asking you to track down another sailor for their shift change.  The missing sailor is loitering around in Cabin #2, next door to your room.  Beat him in a battle, and he'll head back to his post.  A Juggler is hunched over a trash can on the lower floor, but somehow has enough strength to battle.  Battle past the Sailor and the Picnicker, and take the stairs in the southwest to get to the Captain's room.
A Sailor blocks the way. Speak to him, and he asks that you find another Sailor for him as he cannot leave his post.

Sailor Stanly can now be found in the cabin next to your own. He claims that he was not goofing off, but that the room was vacant, so he took a quick nap. Defeat him, and he returns to his post.

The Sailor thanks you for finding Stanly, and mentions that he may have seen a little girl around here. In the nearest room, the seasick Juggler Fritz is hunched over a trash can. Sailor Jeff can be found in the second room, and Picnicker Debra stands in the hallway. There is still no little girl to be seen, so take the stairs up to the Captain's cabin.

Captain's cabin
The little girl is located here, safe but bored, and keeps trying to get the Captain to play with her. Realizing that her grandfather has been worried about her, she rushes off and you both return to the grandfather's cabin. As thanks for seeing his granddaughter returned safely, he rewards you with a Metal Coat. A moment later, the Captain announces that the ship has now arrived in Vermilion City.

You'll find the girl with the Captain; she's bored out of her mind, and is desperately trying to get the Captain to play with her.  Once she realizes that her grandfather's worried about her, she runs off, and you both end up in the old man's room.  For baby-sitting the little girl, her grandfather gives you a Metal Coat, a power-up item for Steel and an integral part of a few trade evolutions.  As soon as he's done talking, the speaker system alerts passengers that the ferry has docked in Vermilion harbor.
After this initial trip to Kanto, the ship sails from Kanto to Johto every Sunday and Wednesday, and from Johto to Kanto every Monday and Friday.

Vermilion City
Vermilion City is the first Kanto city you'll visit.  Not much has changed over the past three years, though the land around Diglett's Cave has shifted a little.  The old man is still clearing the ground for construction with his Machop, and a Snorlax has taken up residence on the east side. <br><br>
Vermilion City is a popular port city located between 6 and 11. Vermilion Harbor sees many ships coming and going, and the Pokémon Fan Club is located on the west side of town. The eastern exit, and the east end of Diglett's Cave, are currently blocked by a sleeping Snorlax. The Vermilion Gym stands in the southwest.
Shop at the Mart if you're in need of Potions or Poké Balls, then visit the Pokémon Fan Club on the city's west side, north of the Gym.

Pokémon Fan Club
Pokémon Fan Club
The Pokémon Fan Club is located on the west side of town. Members meet here to discuss everything about their favorite Pokémon, and include a woman with her Bayleef and a man with his Clefairy—or rather, a Poké Doll that looks like a Clefairy. Speak to the Chairman to hear a long-winded story about his prized Rapidash. He eventually realizes how long he has been speaking, and gives you a Rare Candy as thanks for hearing him out.

Vermilion Gym
Listen to the Chairman's rambling story about his Rapidash, and he'll give you a Rare Candy for listening to the whole thing.  Take note of the guy with the Clefairy - it's actually a Poké Doll that you'll need to take to its owner later. <br>

|}

Now let's take on the first Kanto Gym!

<br>
The Vermilion Gym specializes in Electric Pokémon. Electric-type moves are super effective against Flying- and Water Pokémon, while Electric-type Pokémon are weak to Ground moves.
<br>
<br>

Vermilion Gym
RBY
The Gym features an array of trash cans, two of which conceal a hidden switch. Normally, these two switches must be found and flipped in order to unlock the door to the Gym Leader's room. However, they are currently inactive, so there are no puzzles to solve before reaching the Gym Leader.

RBY

The Vermilion Gym specializes in Electrics, so your Ground- and Rocks will have the easiest time here. Avoid bringing Water- and Flyings unless they are higher-leveled, or they won't last very long.  Lt. Surge has three recruits in his Gym, but his trash can puzzle from three years ago is inactive, so you can walk right up to him for a battle.  Look out for any explosions, and Lt. Surge will go down without a problem.
Lt. Surge's Magneton knows the powerful Zap Cannon attack. Though guaranteed to cause paralysis, it has only 50% Accuracy; however, using Lock-On first ensures that it connects with the target. His two Electrode are nearly identical, so be aware that either one could Explosion without warning. Ground Pokémon are immune to Electric attacks, but a good alternative would be to use Grass Pokémon, as they resist Electric moves. Electric Pokémon tend to have higher Speed, so consider making use of items like Quick Claw and X Speed.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Gold and Silver.

After the credits end, you find yourself back in New Bark Town. Professor Elm calls a moment later, asking that you visit the lab. Pay him a visit to receive the S.S. Ticket, a boarding pass for the S.S. Aqua in Olivine City.

Enter the building on the south side of town to reach the harbor. Speak to the Sailor to present the S.S. Ticket and board the ship for Kanto's Vermilion City.

The S.S. Aqua uses hydraulic power to skim across the ocean, making for a speedy voyage between Johto's Olivine City and Kanto's Vermilion City. It is one of the more convenient means of travel between the two regions.

Missing Child

Soon after boarding the ship, a Gentleman bumps into you. The man is distraught, and apologies as he explains that his young granddaughter is missing. He asks that you let him know if she is found, and hurries off to continue his search.

The Search Begins

Professor Elm's S.S. Ticket reserves the cabin at the far end of the first hallway, marked by a Sailor standing just outside. The room features a PC and a cozy bed, the perfect place to take a nap and restore health.

B1F

A Sailor blocks the way. Speak to him, and he asks that you find another Sailor for him as he cannot leave his post.

1F

Sailor Stanly can now be found in the cabin next to your own. He claims that he was not goofing off, but that the room was vacant, so he took a quick nap. Defeat him, and he returns to his post.

B1F

After this initial trip to Kanto, the ship sails from Kanto to Johto every Sunday and Wednesday, and from Johto to Kanto every Monday and Friday.

Vermilion City

Vermilion City

Vermilion City is a popular port city located between Route 6 and Route 11. Vermilion Harbor sees many ships coming and going, and the Pokémon Fan Club is located on the west side of town. The eastern exit, and the east end of Diglett's Cave, are currently blocked by a sleeping Snorlax. The Vermilion Gym stands in the southwest.

Leader: Lt. Surge

The Lightning American

The Vermilion Gym specializes in Electric-type Pokémon. Electric-type moves are super effective against Flying- and Water-type Pokémon, while Electric-type Pokémon are weak to Ground-type moves.

The Gym features an array of trash cans, two of which conceal a hidden switch. Normally, these two switches must be found and flipped in order to unlock the door to the Gym Leader's room. However, they are currently inactive, so there are no puzzles to solve before reaching the Gym Leader.

Lt. Surge's Magneton knows the powerful Zap Cannon attack. Though guaranteed to cause paralysis, it has only 50% Accuracy; however, using Lock-On first ensures that it connects with the target. His two Electrode are nearly identical, so be aware that either one could explode without warning. Ground-type Pokémon are immune to Electric attacks, but a good alternative would be to use Grass-type Pokémon, as they resist Electric moves. Electric Pokémon tend to have higher Speed, so consider making use of items like Quick Claw and X Speed.
