Shogakukan full volume | Chapter 411 in Vol. 37 |
VIZ Media full volume | Adventure 74 in Vol. 8 |
Series | Pokémon Adventures |
Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia I (Japanese: VS ディアルガ&パルキアI VS Dialga & Palkia I), titled VS Dialga & Palkia I in the Chuang Yi translation, is the 411th chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga, and the 74th chapter of the Diamond & Pearl arc.
It is subtitled Fate and Spear Pillar (Japanese: 運命とやりの柱 Destiny and the Spear Pillar) in the VIZ Media translation and Destiny and Spear Pillar in the Chuang Yi translation.
Plot
Cynthia appears in the room that previously held the Lake guardians, and notices Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum unconscious on the floor with their Pokémon. She rushes over to them as they begin to wake up, and they begin to recognize each other.
Pearl and Platinum tell her that they helped release the three Legendaries, which had caused a bright flash of light. Diamond explains that in order to do it, they had to sacrifice their Pokédexes to the Advanced level Grunt to distract him for long enough to press the release buttons.
Cynthia praises their work, having had a suspicion that they would end up facing Team Galactic again after having dealt with them before in Celestic Town. Pearl suddenly realizes how long its been since the three of them have been together, and they bump fists before collapsing on the ground in relief.
Pearl notices that Cynthia seems wounded, and she admits she had just been fighting Cyrus, leaving the three Pokédex holders shocked. She reminds them of their first meeting together in Eterna City, where she admits she had pretended to be a passerby in order to help rescue Rad Rickshaw from one of Team Galactic's bases.
She informs them that the danger posed by Cyrus is still not over, even after freeing the Legendary Pokémon, and that they need to follow him to Spear Pillar on top of Mount Coronet, where Cyrus and the Team Galactic commanders must be gathered.
As they travel on Cynthia's Garchomp, Platinum notes that Mount Coronet is where they had been trying to go anyways, and Pearl connects it to Cynthia's mention of destiny, with Diamond concluding that their journey together must have been inevitable.
Platinum hands a Poké Ball to Diamond containing a Mamoswine that she had caught for him at Candice's recommendation after their Gym battle. Diamond greets his new teammate, but Pearl is more surprised that she beat a Gym Leader all without their help. She regrets that she wasn't able to get him a Pokémon as a gift as well, but Pearl says the greatest gift is knowing she was able to conquer the last two gyms by herself.
As they arrive at Mount Coronet, Cyrus has already summoned Dialga and Palkia, and begins to issue his commands. The three Gym Leaders refuse to accept that there's nothing that can be done, and begin to fight the Team Galactic Commanders. Just as Saturn begins to taunt them, four other Gym Leaders emerge from the ground, prepared to fight.
The Commanders are shocked that they were able to evade detection from their network of Grunts placed alone Mount Coronet by traveling underground. Byron explains that they were able to navigate the underground tunnels throughout Sinnoh with the help of the Underground Man and the Explorer Kit.
Byron continues to dig tunnels underground as the other six Gym Leaders begin to engage the three Galactic Commanders in battle, able to restore the health of their Pokémon constantly by bringing them underground momentarily through small holes created by Byron.
