Goh's Scizor (Japanese: ゴウのハッサム Go's Hassam) is the twelfth Pokémon that Goh caught in the Kanto region, and his thirteenth overall.

In the anime

History

Scizor debuted as a Scyther in Working My Way Back to Mew!, where it was the last Bug-type Pokémon native to the Kanto region that Goh needed to catch. It easily repelled Goh's Poké Ball and sent him and Scorbunny flying. Later, Goh briefly battled the Mantis Pokémon with his Scorbunny before finally catching it. Afterwards, it was seen with all of his other Pokémon before Professor Cerise suggested leaving it at his Laboratory.

In Serving Up the Flute Cup!, Goh used Scyther in his first Pokémon battle during the Battle Frontier Flute Cup. It battled Hodge's Mightyena, where it used Swords Dance before quickly falling to Mightyena's Fire Fang.

In A Snow Day for Searching!, Goh used Scyther alongside some of his other Bug Pokémon to find the bone of a wild Cubone, which he later caught.

During a food shortage in Panic in the Park!, Scyther led a group of Goh's Bug-type Pokémon during a rebellion. They targeted Darmanitan, Grimer, Ekans, and Stantler. When Golurk lost control, Scyther protected Goh's three Cascoon.

In Searching for Chivalry!, Scyther volunteered for a training challenge hosted by Kalos Elite Four member Wikstrom at the Castle of Chivalry, alongside Ash and his Farfetch'd. In the first phase, the group was stopped by a Probopass belonging to the Elite trainer; with great difficulty, the group managed to go through this round. In the second phase, Goh and Scyther enter a maze where they were separated from the rest of the group. This time, the two had to collaborate while being attacked by Pokémon on the way.

In the final part of the challenge, Scyther battled against Wikstrom's Aegislash until Ash and Goh decided to let Ash and Farfetch'd battle it. At the same time, Goh and Scyther attempted to catch Wikstrom's Klefki, which was carrying a key required to pass the challenge. They eventually succeeded, earning the participating Trainers and Pokémon one medal each. Afterward, Wikstrom offered to help Goh evolve his Scyther. Goh agreed to this, and Wikstrom gave Scyther a Metal Coat to hold before it was transferred through a trade machine, causing the Mantis Pokémon to evolve into Scizor.

In Beyond Chivalry… Aiming to be a Leek Master!, Goh used Scizor in a training battle against Ash's Farfetch'd, during which it was shown to have learned X-Scissor. The battle ended without a proper victor as both Pokémon began tiring out and were subsequently taken to be healed at a Pokémon Center.

In Leaping Toward the Dream!, Goh used Scizor to find an Alolan Ninetales as a part of his Project Mew qualification mission. Scizor alerted Ash and Goh when it found Ninetales and was subsequently used to battle the Fox Pokémon. Despite having a type advantage, Scizor quickly ended up getting frozen by an Ice Beam, forcing Goh to recall it.

In Heroes Unite!, Scizor joined the rest of Goh's Pokémon at the lab to celebrate their Trainer's return from the last mission of Project Mew. In This Could be the Start of Something Big!, it attended a surprise party hosted by the Lab members commemorating Goh and Ash's departure.

Personality and characteristics

Scizor is a fast and powerful Pokémon; thus, Goh had the most trouble catching it out of all the other Kanto-native Bug types he went after. It is enthusiastic about battling and staying active. In Serving Up the Flute Cup!, it followed Mimey's kung-fu exercises and was later seen shadowboxing to get Goh's attention to bring it to the Battle Frontier Flute Cup; in Searching for Chivalry!, it rushed to Goh wanting to participate in the training challenge hosted by Wikstrom. Scizor is also shown to have a quick temper, as seen in A Snow Day for Searching! when Scyther began chasing a group of Geodude that threw snowballs at it. These behaviors particularly contrast with Goh's Pinsir, who tried to avoid being selected for the Flute Cup and gets along with Goh's smaller Pokémon like Caterpie. However, despite its rough demeanor, Scyther enjoys hugs, as seen in Best Friend...Worst Nightmare!, when it accepted one from Ash's Dragonite.

After its capture, Scizor quickly became one of Goh's most used Pokémon, next to Cinderace. Despite its strength and confidence, Goh and Scizor are not as in sync with each other compared to Cinderace, and Goh's cautious strategy in the first round of the Flute Cup led to Scyther's quick defeat. Scyther didn't appear upset by the loss, returning from the Pokémon Center for another battle. Like Scorbunny, it seemed more concerned with how hard Goh was taking his first defeat. From Searching for Chivalry! onwards, Goh and Scyther are more aligned with each other, managing to pass the goals proposed by Wikstrom as a true team.

Scizor is protective of other Pokémon, as seen in Panic in the Park! when it shielded a group of Goh's Bug types from Darmanitan's attack. Scizor is also a natural leader, as demonstrated when it commanded Goh's other Bug types to attack Darmanitan and its allies.

On November 6, 2020, as part of Pokémon GO's Animation Week 2020 event, which was based on Pokémon Journeys: The Series, several Pokémon based on those that Ash and Goh encountered in the anime appeared more frequently in the wild, in raids, from 7 km Eggs, and during surprise encounters, with Scyther appearing in the wild and in surprise encounters. The event ran from November 6, 2020, at 8:00 a.m., to November 12, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. local time.

Pokémon Mezastar

Scizor appears in Pokémon Mezastar as one of Goh's Pokémon. It appears as an opponent during the first Super Tag set. Upon beating Goh, the player can receive a Support Pokémon Ticket based on Goh's Cinderace, with Scizor as its tag partner.
