Present can either deal damage against the target or heal it for 1/4 of its maximum HP. If Present deals damage, then the base power of Present is chosen at random from 40, 80, or 120.

If the user heals the target while holding a Normal Gem, this item is still consumed even though the HP healed is not affected. Similarly, if this move's type is changed (such as from Electrify, Ion Deluge, Pixilate, etc.), this is true for the held Gem of the current type.

If a Pokémon with Parental Bond uses Present and heals the target, it will only hit once. However, if it damages the target, it will hit twice. If Present is used on an ally with  Telepathy, Present will always be blocked, even if it would have healed the target.

If the target is affected by Heal Block, then Present will not heal its HP, although damage is still dealt normally.

Generation II
In this generation, Present will have a 20% chance of healing Pokémon with full HP, though the message afterwards slightly differs depending on the game.  In Gold and Silver, if it would heal the target but it has full HP, a message is displayed that says "Enemy <Pokémon> can't receive the gift!" In Pokémon Stadium 2, the move is still performed but the message "It couldn't receive the gift!" is displayed.  In English Crystal, no message will be displayed.

Present is affected by King's Rock.

Gold and Silver
In Gold and Silver, a glitch causes the level, Attack, and Defense variables of the damage formula to be replaced. The Attack will be replaced with 5 if the target is Rock- or Steel, or 10 otherwise. The level will be based on the index number of the defending Pokémon's type, and the Defense will be based on the index number of the attacking Pokémon's type (if a Pokémon has two types, its secondary type will be used).

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
Prior to Super Mystery Dungeon, Present will only target enemies in front, and either deal damage possibly heal enemies by 25% of their max HP. In the Rescue Team series, any damage dealt will be a flat 40, 80, or 120 damage. In the Explorers series as well as the Adventure series, the move's damage is  a flat 25, 50, or 75 damage.

From Super Mystery Dungeon onwards, Present can target teammates as well as enemies. When the move targets a teammate, it will always heal 25% of their max HP. When there is a teammate at less than 50% max HP, the user will warp next to a teammate anywhere on the floor to heal their ally.

Present (Japanese: プレゼント Present) is a damage-dealing Normal-type move introduced in Generation II. Prior to Generation IX, it was the signature move of Delibird.

Effect

Present can either deal damage against the target or heal it for 1/4 of its maximum HP. If Present deals damage, then the base power of Present is chosen at random from 40, 80, or 120.

Present's effect is chosen randomly as shown below.

Effect Probability
Damage with 40 base power 40%
Damage with 80 base power 30%
Damage with 120 base power 10%
Heal 1/4 of the target's max HP 20%

In Pokémon Gold and Silver, if it would heal the target but it has full HP, a message is displayed that says "Enemy <Pokémon> can't receive the gift!" In Pokémon Stadium 2, the move is still performed but the message "It couldn't receive the gift!" is displayed. In English Pokémon Crystal, no message will be displayed.

Present is affected by King's Rock.

Gold and Silver

In Gold and Silver, a glitch causes the level, Attack, and Defense variables of the damage formula to be replaced. The Attack will be replaced with 5 if the target is Rock- or Steel-type, or 10 otherwise. The level will be based on the index number of the defending Pokémon's type, and the Defense will be based on the index number of the attacking Pokémon's type (if a Pokémon has two types, its secondary type will be used).

7 Bug
8 Ghost
9 Steel
20 Fire
21 Water
22 Grass
23 Electric
24 Psychic
25 Ice
26 Dragon
27 Dark

In Crystal (except in link battles) and Pokémon Stadium 2, the glitch is fixed and Present's damage calculates normally.

Generations III and IV

Present will now have no effect if it would heal a Pokémon with full HP.

Present is no longer affected by King's Rock.

Generation V onwards

Present can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if a certain move (Celebrate, Covet, Happy Hour or Wish) was used in the prior turn.

Present is once again affected by King's Rock.

Description

Games Description
MDRB Either inflicts damage on the target or restores its HP.
MDTDS Could either inflict damage on the target or restore its HP.
BSL てきポケモンに ダメージをあたえるか HPを かいふくするか どちらかの こうかを あたえる
MDGtI IconKanji2MD.pngUNUSED
SMD The damage you inflict on a target varies. But be careful, because it could restore an enemy's HP as well as your teammate's HP.
MDRTDX You give an enemy a gift of a random amount of damage! But be careful, because sometimes the gift could mistakenly help restore the enemy's HP, too. If you use this move on a teammate, it will always help restore their HP.
