The setting for the competition

The Pokémon Dress-Up Contest (Japanese: ポケモンなりきり大会 Pokémon Cosplay Convention) is an animated series-exclusive event that is held annually in the Sinnoh region. It is organized by the Pokémon Fan Club and it was featured in All Dressed Up With Somewhere To Go!.

Competition

The panel of judges

The Pokémon Dress-Up Contest is a competition where Pokémon are judged on how well they can imitate other Pokémon, either by dressing up or by doing impressions. The key to achieve victory is to stay in character, replicating another Pokémon's behavior as closely as possible. The winning Trainer is awarded with a Pokémon Egg.

The event is organized by the members of the Pokémon Fan Club. Rhonda serves as the announcer while Mr. Sukizo, Officer Jenny, and Nurse Joy act as the judges. According to Dawn, the Pokémon Dress-Up Contest is so popular it ends up ranking #1 in the ratings every season. It is covered by the Sinnoh Now crew and is sponsored by the Pokétch Company.

For the competition, Rhonda wore a Cherrim costume while Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy dressed up as Growlithe and Chansey, respectively.

Results

The finalists

Ash and his Pikachu, Brock and his Croagunk, Jessie and Meowth, James and his Mime Jr., and the last year's winner and his Chatot all advanced to the finals. Dawn and her Piplup, however, failed to move on because Piplup had used Bubble Beam, a move Weedle cannot learn, during his imitation in the first round.

In the final round, Jessie and Meowth stole the prize Egg. For this reason, the competition had to be interrupted. Together with Officer Jenny, the group chased after Team Rocket to try and get the Egg back. After the Egg was recovered, the judges announced the results, declaring Brock's Croagunk as the big winner because he was able to stay in character the whole time, even during all the commotion that Team Rocket had caused. As a result, Brock received the Pokémon Egg.
