Lear Takes the Lead (Japanese: 最強の王の采配 Command of the Strongest King) was a solo event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Lear & Hoopa, Rachel & Umbreon, and Sawyer & Honchkrow.
During this event, players could earn event vouchers from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Obtaining a certain amount of vouchers would unlock the story area Can't Wait to Be King, completion of which earned the player a medal. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.
This second run of this event was the only way to obtain the following Song Keys for the Jukebox:
- Song Key No. 00031 "Battle! (Rachel and Sawyer)"
- Song Key No. 00032 "Trainers’ Eyes Meet (Lear)"
- Song Key No. 00033 "Trainers’ Eyes Meet (Rachel and Sawyer)"

Rachel & Umbreon and Sawyer & Honchkrow were also available in this scout, but they had the same chance of being recruited as other 4★ pairs. In conjunction with this scout, Lear & Hoopa's sync grid was expanded with new grid tiles that could be unlocked at move levels 2, 4, and 5, Lear & Hoopa received an unlockable EX role, and Rachel & Umbreon and Sawyer & Honchkrow received their EX styles.
In this run, the type of voucher that players could earn was Event Voucher Y, and event mission rewards included only medals and Gems. Everything else was the same as the first run.
Plot
To Lisia's surprise, she is transported to the Pokémon Center by Hoopa. Lear, Sawyer, and Rachel chase after it, telling it to return Lisia back to where she was. Hoopa does not listen, impishly ignoring its orders. When Lisia tells them she was in the middle of a concert, Lear insists on escorting her back right away. To prevent any potential issues with her audience, Lear decides to livestream Lisia's return to her performance and make it seem as if her disappearance was part of the show. As the king of Pasio, Lear takes the responsibility on himself to ensure Lisia and her fans are satisfied.
After they return Lisia to her concert, Lear, Sawyer, and Rachel meet back at the Pokémon Center. Sawyer and Rachel compliment Lear on the success, and he is content that the experience allowed him to show off his ability to lead as Pasio's king.
