Biology
Physiology
Porygon2 looks very similar to its pre-evolution, except that all of Porygon2's edges have been rounded out. The pattern on its chest has also been significantly rounded out, and it looks very similar to a drinking bird.
Porygon2 is a rounded, magenta, artificial Pokémon that shows similarities to a drinking bird. It has a relatively flat bill and large, round eyes. Its legs are simple ovoid growths along its sides, and its tail widens towards the middle. Its bill, legs, tail, and underside are blue.

Gender differences
Porygon2's evolution from Porygon was the result of it being upgraded from the most cutting-edge technology available. It was upgraded to work in space for planetary devolvement reasons, although its inability to fly limits this ability. It is artificially intelligent and capable of learning new behaviors on its own, including information it does not need to know. It can also speak a strange language only other Porygon2 can understand. As a result, it will sometimes perform motions or abilities that are not in its programming. It is generally found in computers or in labs and List of Pokémon by habitat working with people. It can survive in a space vacuum, though cannot move very well in zero gravity. In ancient Hisui, people were confused about Porygon2 and its evolutionary relatives due to them arriving through space-time distortions and being the product of far more advanced technology than what was available at the time.
Porygon2 is a genderless species.

Special abilities
Porygon2 and its evolutionary relatives are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the moves Conversion and Conversion 2. Additionally, prior to Generation V and in Generation IX, Porygon2 and its evolutionary relatives are the only known Pokémon that could have Download as an Ability.
Porygon2 has the same abilities as its pre-evolution, except that Porygon2 is capable of using Defense Curl instead of Sharpen.

Porygon2, and its evolution family, Porygon and Porygon-Z, are the only known Pokémon that learn Conversion and Conversion 2.
Evolution
Porygon2 evolves from Porygon and evolves into Porygon-Z.

Porygon2 has the ability to work in space, due to it not having to breathe. However, it cannot go into space by itself because it cannot fly. This problem seems to have been solved in Porygon-Z.
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

In the anime
Porygon2 is the only Generation II Pokémon to never appear in the anime, as well as the only pre-Generation IV Pokémon to not appear in the anime or the movies, not even as a cameo. Popular opinion is that this is because of the incident involving Porygon, despite the fact that Porygon had several cameos. It did, however, appear in the Johto Pokérap, though it was only stockart.

Blue's Porygon2
Blue bought a Porygon in Celadon City, which was quite disobedient to its new trainer, but became an integral part of his team later. Prior to the GSC saga, it evolved into Porygon2 and battled with Silver's Sneasel. It again appeared in the FireRed & LeafGreen, where its ability to integrate itself into any electronic network proved handy in freeing Professor Oak and Green's parents.

Porygon2 (TCG)

Other appearances
Super Smash Bros. Melee
When released from a Poké Ball, Porygon2 will immediately use a powerful Tackle attack that sends opponents flying. The attack cannot be escaped due to the speed in which it happens but Porygon2 is harmless once the attack has finished.

Trophy information
Representing the next step in technological progress, this Virtual Pokémon is a higher-powered version of the man-made Pokémon, Porygon. Compared to the sharp edges of its relative, Porygon2's body is extremely smooth and rounded. In battle, it utilizes a special move called Conversion 2 to alter its type.

Porygon2 made its unofficial anime debut in the English dub via stock art in the Johto Pokérap.

Porygon2's lone physical appearance was in Kyurem VS. The Sword of Justices "World of Pokémon" opening, which featured every Pokémon from the first five generations revealed to that point.

Due to the EP038 incident, Porygon2 has not appeared in an episode of the anime, and it is the only Generation II Pokémon not to appear. Along with its evolved form, Porygon-Z, it is also the only Pokémon prior to Generation VIII that is neither Legendary nor Mythical to not appear in an episode of the anime.

Trivia
Trivia
* Porygon2 is the only Pokémon with a numeral in its name.
* Porygon2 is the only Pokémon with a numeral in its name.
** In the Generation II games, it is impossible to return a nicknamed Porygon2 to its species name. This is because the 2 is not available as a character for nicknames.
** In the Generation II games, it is impossible to return a nicknamed Porygon2 to its species name, because numbers are not available for nicknames.
** Porygon2 is also one of eight Pokémon whose name has a non-alphabetic character in it, the others being Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Farfetch'd, Mr. Mime, Ho-Oh, Mime Jr. and Porygon-Z.
* Porygon2 is the only non-fully evolved Pokémon that evolves into and from another Pokémon by trading.
* Porygon2 is smaller than its pre-evolution, Porygon. The same thing happens to Gengar, Dragonite, and Bellossom
** Furthermore, Porygon2, Chansey, and Dipplin are the only non-fully evolved Pokémon that evolve from another Pokémon through the use of an item.
**It is one of two Pokémon that is both smaller and lighter than the Pokémon that it evolves from. The other is Bellossom.
* Porygon2 is the only member of its evolutionary line that has not received an anime voice, as Porygon's voice was heard in EP038 and the Who's That Pokémon? segment for A Way Off Day Off, and Porygon-Z was given an anime voice for its appearance in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure.
*** This may be a reference to computers, which tend to get smaller and lighter over time.
* It is the only Pokémon that both evolves by trading and needs to be traded to evolve again.
* In Generation II, it is possible for Porygon2 to have both effects of the move Curse. One is by simply using it to the non-Ghost effect of Curse. The other is by using either Conversion or Conversion 2 to change its type to Ghost and have the Ghost effect of Curse. The other Pokémon that can do this are Porygon and Smeargle.
* Of all Pokémon able to evolve, Porygon2 has the highest base stat total with 515.
** It is also the only evolution introduced after the generation of its pre-evolution able to evolve again.
* Despite being pink and blue, it is classified as red in the Pokédex. A similar situation happens with Butterfree and Mothim.
* Porygon2 is the only one in its evolutionary family to not receive an audible voice despite having a cameo in a game where Pokémon talk.

Origin
Origin
Like Porygon, it is based on an origami crane made with 3D computer graphics. The head looks like a duck. It also resembles a drinking bird, especially in the 3D games, where it makes the same movement as one. The change in form by evolution from Porygon to Porygon2 represents the concept of Subdivision surface in 3D computer graphics.
Porygon2 seems to be based on a bird or Orizuru that has been rendering (computer graphics) using computer software. The head-tipping motion it displays in some games is reminiscent of a drinking bird toy. Its rounder body compared to Porygon may represent the concept of Subdivision surface in 3D computer graphics. As an upgraded version of Porygon, it may also reference software versioning. The fact that it's lighter than its previous form my be based on optimization. Its Pokédex entries imply a connection to artificial intelligence and robotic spacecraft.

Name origin
Name origin
Porygon2's name is a mix between polygon and origami. It may also reflect the fact that some Japanese people pronounce their 'L' sounds as 'R' sounds, Porygon being a mispronunciation of polygon. The 2 in its name is a likely reference to software versioning, as it is the second "stable release", an upgraded version, of Porygon.
Porygon2 is a combination of a corruption of polygon and the number 2 (since it is the second stage in its evolutionary line).

Porygon2 (Japanese: ポリゴン2 Porygon2) is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It evolves from Porygon when traded while holding an Upgrade, and evolves into Porygon-Z when traded while holding a Dubious Disc.

(Specifics may differ in past games. Refer to Game data→Evolution data for more details.)

Biology

Porygon2 traveling through cyberspace in Pokémon Adventures

Porygon2 is a rounded, magenta, artificial Pokémon that shows similarities to a drinking bird. It has a relatively flat bill and large, round eyes. Its legs are simple ovoid growths along its sides, and its tail widens towards the middle. Its bill, legs, tail, and underside are blue.

It is generally found in computers or in labs and other buildings working with people. It can survive in a space vacuum, though cannot move very well in zero gravity. In ancient Hisui, people were confused about Porygon2 and its evolutionary relatives due to them arriving through space-time distortions and being the product of far more advanced technology than what was available at the time.

Evolution

Porygon2 evolves from Porygon and evolves into Porygon-Z.

(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

Evolution data

Porygon2 evolves from Porygon when traded while holding an Upgrade, and evolves into Porygon-Z when traded while holding a Dubious Disc. Porygon cannot evolve into Porygon2 in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen until the player obtains the National Pokédex, as its evolution will be interrupted. Porygon also cannot evolve into Porygon2 in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, as Porygon2 is not present in those games. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Porygon2 evolves from Porygon when exposed to an Upgrade, and evolves into Porygon-Z when exposed to a Dubious Disc.

Porygon2 in the "World of Pokémon" opening of Kyurem VS. The Sword of Justice

Porygon2 made its unofficial anime debut in the English dub via stock art in the Johto Pokérap.

Porygon2's lone physical appearance was in Kyurem VS. The Sword of Justice's "World of Pokémon" opening, which featured every Pokémon from the first five generations revealed to that point.

Other appearances

Porygon2 in Melee

Trivia

  • Porygon2 is the only Pokémon with a numeral in its name.
    • In the Generation II games, it is impossible to return a nicknamed Porygon2 to its species name, because numbers are not available for nicknames.
  • Porygon2 is the only non-fully evolved Pokémon that evolves into and from another Pokémon by trading.
    • Furthermore, Porygon2, Chansey, and Dipplin are the only non-fully evolved Pokémon that evolve from another Pokémon through the use of an item.
  • Porygon2 is the only member of its evolutionary line that has not received an anime voice, as Porygon's voice was heard in EP038 and the Who's That Pokémon? segment for A Way Off Day Off, and Porygon-Z was given an anime voice for its appearance in PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure.

Origin

Porygon2 seems to be based on a bird or paper crane that has been rendered using computer software. The head-tipping motion it displays in some games is reminiscent of a drinking bird toy. Its rounder body compared to Porygon may represent the concept of subdivision in 3D computer graphics. As an upgraded version of Porygon, it may also reference software versioning. The fact that it's lighter than its previous form my be based on optimization. Its Pokédex entries imply a connection to artificial intelligence and robotic spacecraft.

Name origin

Porygon2 is a combination of a corruption of polygon and the number 2 (since it is the second stage in its evolutionary line).
