Clemont's Magneton (Japanese: シトロンのレアコイル Citron's Rarecoil) was one of the three original Pokémon acquired by Clemont in the Kalos region prior to the start of Pokémon the Series: XY. Magneton also appeared in the games Clemont appears in.
In the anime
Prior to Pokémon the Series: XY, Clemont lent Magneton to Clembot while he was away from the Lumiose Gym with Bonnie.
Magneton debuted in Clemont's Got a Secret!. It served as a patrol for the Gym. After Ash defeated Magnemite with Froakie's help, Magneton appeared and attacked the group with Metal Sound. Serena's Fennekin battled Magneton and attacked with Ember, which Magneton easily dodged by temporarily separating itself into three. Despite having a type disadvantage, Magneton overpowered Fennekin and Froakie came to the rescue by stopping it with its Frubbles.
After Clemont had his battle with Clembot to determine ownership of the Gym, Magneton cheered along with the group and Clemont's other Pokémon when Clemont was able to reprogram Clembot.
In A Fork in the Road! A Parting of the Ways!, Magneton fought against Clemont's Bunnelby while under the Clembot's control in preparation for his upcoming Gym battle with Ash. After Clemont's Gym battle with Ash in The Moment of Lumiose Truth!, it was left back with Clembot at the Gym, along with Magnemite and Heliolisk.
In Battling with a Clean Slate!, Magneton was the second Pokémon used by Clembot in a Gym battle with a Trainer named Alvin. With its Rain Dance-Thunder combo, Magneton easily defeated Alvin's Vivillon and Pyroar, but was defeated by Alvin's Cubone, whose Ground type rendered the combo useless.
Personality and characteristics
Magneton is very loyal both to Clemont and Clembot, albeit to a fault, as shown when Clembot's orders for it to attack any intruders led to it attacking Clemont, also demonstrating how it takes orders from either of them very seriously. It has the ability to split itself into three separate units, and it utilizes this talent to evade oncoming attacks.
