The Virbank Gym was first mentioned in Clash of the Connoisseurs!. After learning that the Opelucid Gym was closed, Ash was informed of the Gym in Virbank City, so he decided to challenge it instead.
Ash arrived at the Virbank Gym in Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 1 to challenge Roxie to a Gym battle, and was surprised to hear that he was allowed to use all of his Pokémon against Roxie's three.
