::::What I meant was that the page should be renamed List of times the fourth wall is broken, or something similar. If you didn't want to include fourth-wall breaks in all media (the Game Freak staff in the games comes to mind), you could say List of times the fourth wall is broken in the anime, although that's even longer. I think the page would fit in better on Bulbapedia as a list than a definition. --<span style="color:#008000;">Martonimos</span>((<span style="color:#00FF00;">Talk</span>)) 23:09, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

In EP026, the Celadon Gym episode, Jessie and James were exclaming about a bad smelling Pokémon (I can't remember if it was Koffing or Gloom or both) and Meowth remarks that his nose melted off.  He then goes on to say that the animators never drew him a nose.  If anyone has more info on this, it can be added as well.  ~<font color="midnightblue" face="comic sans ms">$aturn</font><font color="green" face="comic sans ms">¥oshi</font> <font color="maroon">THE VOICES</font> 17:07, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Team Rocket have been known to break the fourth wall many times in the English version when the Rocket-dan don't in the Japanese version.  Is break the fourth wall really an attribute of the original anime, or is it just something that 4Kids did quite often?  Satosuke 17:36, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

I thought about in episode 112 where Ash fights Drake's Dragonite. Team Rocket appears and there's a scene split where Drake asks how they dare interrupt the battle. #Keep. However I do agree that the first item is not really breaking the fourth wall as they are clearly in-game characters. By my definition, which may or may not be correct, breaking the fourth wall includes any incident in which the game universe acknowledges the outside world e.g. recognising that the game was created by developers or that the player needs to know how to use the menu. The menu only exists outside the game universe (again this is debatable) therefore any reference to it is breaking the fourth wall.--Beligaronia (talk) 20:28, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Pokemon ranger
I was playing Pokemon Ranger, and i thought of two submissions. First, during some mission (i forgot which) Professor Hastings says, "lets review our optiosn! And by options, i don't mean some silly text settings!". This could be a reference to the text settings under "options" in the Pokeranger game. It may not be that notable, but i was just checking to see if it is. The second one is, before you meet Spencer in Fall City, someone says they can tell that it is/isn't your first time here, depending on whether you move around with the touch screen or the D-pad, and says he uses the stylus because he is from the "touch generation". Are either of them notable? Flyingtypefan 19:05, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Preventing Deletion

I had figured this would happen, however, I would like for anyone to bear with me when it comes to this page, as I seemingly made it a 2:00 AM, when I couldn't sleep. I am planning on at least making a list of episodes that break the fourth wall, but If I do not find enough relevance I will stop fighting its deletion. So please bear with me LinkSlayerPKMN 18:42, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't see how this associates with Pokemon, though. Porygon-Z 18:45, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Because they do break the fourth wall sometimes in Pokémon, maybe? Pokémon Lover King Mario 21:11, 5 April 2008 (GMT +01)
That's exactly what I'm getting at. I'd like to make this site a bit more navigable, and I'm starting by adding a couple pages. LinkSlayerPKMN 21:14, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
It might be more appropriate to just have a list of times the fourth wall is broken, along with a brief definition of the phrase, rather than a page for the phrase itself. --Martonimos 21:17, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Isn't that essentialy what this is? (mind the list part, I'm woring on it, but my computer is having problems playing the shows.) Oh, I would also like to ask, does this Wiki support redirects?, I have tried making one, but the page does not display as it should, and thereby, won't work. LinkSlayerPKMN 22:23, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Of course this Wiki supports redirects, why wouldn't it? o_O; I think we should just put a list of fourth-wall-breaks on this page, but eh. Tina δ 22:26, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Most of the breaks are from Team Rocket in the anime (I think it says something about it in the Running Gags section of the Team Rocket page.) Maybe we could just have the list on their page or something. MoldyOrange 22:37, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Eh, a list would be better on a separate page (this one) whether TR does it all or not. TTEchidna 23:39, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

I think that a category would be more appropriate in this case; the only episodes I can remember in which the fourth wall is broken are the one mentioned and the second movie. Vekter 16:16, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

A category wouldn't give the details. I can think of a few more cases anyway. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 16:52, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Well then, let's just list the instances on the pages for the episodes. I just don't think we need a complete page for just this. Vekter 17:13, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Team Rocket Broke the fourth wall in "The Crystal Onix" but that is all I can remember right off the top of my head. MoldyOrange 18:54, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
What I meant was that the page should be renamed List of times the fourth wall is broken, or something similar. If you didn't want to include fourth-wall breaks in all media (the Game Freak staff in the games comes to mind), you could say List of times the fourth wall is broken in the anime, although that's even longer. I think the page would fit in better on Bulbapedia as a list than a definition. --Martonimos((Talk)) 23:09, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

EP026

In EP026, the Celadon Gym episode, Jessie and James were exclaming about a bad smelling Pokémon (I can't remember if it was Koffing or Gloom or both) and Meowth remarks that his nose melted off. He then goes on to say that the animators never drew him a nose. If anyone has more info on this, it can be added as well. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 17:07, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Coincidentally I was just watching the episode on my laptop and at the point where the fourth wall was broken I decided to add it to the list, then I read this, wow what a coincidence. Anyway, so yeah, its been added Wikid 15:00, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

English Version or Universal?

Team Rocket have been known to break the fourth wall many times in the English version when the Rocket-dan don't in the Japanese version. Is break the fourth wall really an attribute of the original anime, or is it just something that 4Kids did quite often? Satosuke 17:36, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

In the second film we can see Team Rocket and Slowking looking at usPortuguese Old Man 18:29, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

That doesn't prove anything. I want to know clear examples of Kojiro, Musashi, and Nyarth breaking the fourth wall. As far as I see this right now, this should be listed as a dub-only article. Satosuke 00:04, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Doc Brock

Is that really a forth wall break? It seems more like them just recalling they forgot Gliscor, and the narrator just stopping Lovely Rose 21:51, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

No, it isn't breaking the fourth wall. I just removed it, so let's see if others agree. シンジShinjiLover,Edits 22:07, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Enter the Dragonite

I thought about in episode 112 where Ash fights Drake's Dragonite. Team Rocket appears and there's a scene split where Drake asks how they dare interrupt the battle. Then Jessie pushes Drake's half of the split scene away, thus, she is aware of that the scene is split. Voyage 15:33, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

A Lean Mean Team Rocket Machine

In DP092, Team Rocket says "Introduce it to the kids". "The kids" refers to the viewers. This is the scene when Team Rocket shows us their new mecha. Love, Mimitchi33 May 4,2009

They don't mean the viewers. I have a tape recorder and on the fith time watching it I noticed Meowth point at Ash, so it is unlikely they mean the viewers. SpecialK Leiks Lucario and The Celebi Glitch 13:35, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

As Clear as Crystal

Are you sure they break the fourth wall in this episode? It seems to me like they're talking to Ash, Brock, and Misty instead of the viewers.. Chuck67322 22:16, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Arceus and the Jewel of Life

I know you're thinking "Uh-Oh, this isn't true" but look at the movie really closely. When Team Rocket have the Jewel of Life, near the end it disappears. Then in the seen after they are disappointed a Person who looks like Lucas (the male character in GenIV) is in the background with a glailie. Look closely. Should I add it? It breaks the wall by possibly pointing out there is a world outside the anime, referring to the games? SpecialK Leiks Lucario and The Celebi Glitch 16:53, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Haven't seen the movie yet, but what you're describing isn't breaking the fourth wall by any means. And anyhow, Lucas already made an anime cameo. --electAbuzzzz 17:11, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Keep Games

 2. Keep.

 4. Keep They are both examples of breaking the fourth wall so they should be in the article. The only issue here is that you guys haven't been to Celadon Mansion in a while. They are the developers, not random NPCs. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 08:30, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Yes we do. This is what prevents edit wars from getting out of hand.--Beligaronia (talk) 20:28, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
We need discussion, not straw polls. And yes, the "developer rooms" are blatently breaking the fourth wall. (Doesn't one of those guys say "I made you" in one of the games.) Tips on using the controller can also count, especially in NPC dialogue. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 08:05, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Game Freak Employees

Do they say the same thing in all games that feature Celadon Mansion or does it change slightly? What we have here is correct for FRLG, but if it changes from game to game we should perhaps specify the version we are quoting.--Beligaronia (talk) 08:46, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

That's from FireRed but I've checked Yellow, Gold and Emerald and they basically give the same dialogue in all four. (The "I drew you" line isn't in Emerald and the Story Writer fantasises about different girls each gen but other than that it's the same.) --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 08:50, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Excellent. Just checking. Thanks for getting involved in this disagreement.--Beligaronia (talk) 08:56, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

I'll leave the first one for someone else to decide because I'm not sure, but the second one's probably notable. I remember that whole "touch generations" thing.. --ZestyCactus 19:17, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Someone is claiming that Spenser said that "touch generation" thing, when it was actually just a random NPC if i remember correctly. Flyingtypefan 21:26, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Beach Blank-Out Blastoise!

Didn't Misty say that she looked like a cartoon character and Ash replied, "A cartoon character! Like that could ever happen!"

I don't think it should be added. It just means they have cartoons in their world. It's Turtwig A! My talk or wiki edits 00:14, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
That is another leaning on the fourth wall, where they allude to that fact that they are fictional without actually stating it. Unfortunately, some of those make it onto this page because there is no page for them. --SnorlaxMonster 01:23, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Lip Flap reference?

I remember watching an episode of the dub where Team Rocket make a joke about the "lip flap" that the dubbers record the English dialogue over, but I forgot which episode it was. It was probably one of the Advanced Generation episodes. Anyone know which episode this is or if it's mentioned somewhere on here? --Nick102 01:35, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Musharna's album

In PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond, Musharna says that she found an album that was full of names and pictures. Musharna is talking about the credits. Wouldn't that be considered breaking the fourth wall? The above comment is supported by Wildgoose. 22:57, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

No, I don't think so. Games do this a lot. Such as tutorial levels saying, "Press 'A' to jump!" So yeah, no. Not notable. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 23:08, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Background

Multiple times in the anime, televisions in-show will show the background animations during attacks...on the TV. I don't have an exact episode, but it happened in the Sinnoh League Victors season at least once. TeamPlasmaN1212 02:53, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

I don't know what you mean by "background animations", or why that would be an example of breaking the fourth wall. Could you explain? --SnorlaxMonster 11:13, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
I think he's referring to the action lines that appear in the background like in this picture. --Pokemaster97 19:10, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I get it. I don't really see that as breaking the fourth wall: in this universe, those are actually there. --SnorlaxMonster 03:25, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Dissolve transition

I can't recall the exact episode, but in one near the end of season 9, just before going into one of the Giovanni fantasies, James says, "It's time for a dissolve!", likely referring to the dissolve-style transition that's used to go into fantasies. Not sure if he was referring to something else, though. -- EnosShayremtalk 06:34, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Eliminate the foreing mentions

This is a english encyclopedia, also the mentions to the original version are valid too, but in the other languages are inventions in the other dubs. --HoopsterJohn (talk) 22:21, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

"In the anime, the fourth wall has been broken numerous times. Most of these examples are from the English dub. The most common characters to do this are Team Rocket" that's my point English dub please eliminate the the Portugal and Mexico mentions of this article. --HoopsterJohn (talk) 22:26, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Just to start, Bulbapedia is a Pokémon encyclopedia in English, not the other way around. This is why we have articles about other languages since Pokémon is worldwide and not just confined to English and Japanese speakers. I could argue that the English dub creates its own examples independent of the original version. --Super goku (talk) 23:53, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
So, what happen with Meowth, in mexican dub say in "Hoenn Alone!" try catch Pikachu for over 600 episodes --HoopsterJohn (talk) 17:31, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Just a question, but could you clarify your comment? In addition, may I ask how removing the examples would benefit the article? --Super goku (talk) 04:21, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
I don't see the problem with mentioning other dubs. They're certainly not the priority, but I don't see why they need to be removed. --SnorlaxMonster 08:15, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

AG172

In Pokémon Ranger - Deoxys' Crisis! (Part 2) (AG172) James and Jessie are watching Solana in action as she plans out what to do about Deoxys. James then comments, "Maybe she should have her own show!" Do you think this counts as a fourth wall break? By specifying "her own" show, it seems he's acknowledging the fact that he's in one. In Sun and moon there in ultra deep sea when Lilie stands up for herself, Lusamine justifies her actions by calling out the player by saying. "Terrible? Me?
