A gear is an item in Pokémon Masters EX that can be equipped to a player's team to boost the stats of sync pairs. Gears can be obtained by completing Main Story Co-op battles (Very Hard and Super Hard modes) and EX-Challenges in the EX Plaza. A specific gear is guaranteed as a first-time reward with these stages, and can thereafter be obtained as random battle rewards after repeating these stages.
To unlock gears, the player must first complete Chapter 18: Team Unova in both Single and Co-op (Hard) mode to unlock the Get Stronger with Gear! battle. After completing all these, Professor Bellis will reward the player with a 1★ Electric Bracelet.
Mechanics
Gears come in three forms, Bracelets, which raise Attack, Bandannas, which raise Special Attack, and Pins, which raise HP. Only one of each can be equipped to a team at a time. 3★ gears also boost a secondary stat, Defense, Sp. Def, or Speed, respectively. Gears also have an associated type, and they provide the full stat boost for Pokémon in the team with the same type, while Pokémon of other types will receive only half the boost, rounded down to nearest integer.

A gear's level can be upgraded to increase the boost the gear provides. Increasing the level of a 1★ gear raises its stat boost by one, increasing the level of a 2★ gear raises its boost by two, and increasing the level of a 3★ gear raises its primary stat boost by three and its secondary boost by one. Initially, the gear level is capped at Lv. 3, but the level cap can be unlocked by exchanging duplicate copies of the same gear. Up to four gears can be exchanged to increase the level cap to Lv. 15.
Gears are upgraded using Cloths of the respective type, as well as with Upgrade Threads, Scissors, and Needles which are used to upgrade Bracelets, Bandannas, and Pins respectively.
