Bayleef (Japanese: ベイリーフ Bayleaf) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Chikorita starting at level 16, and evolves into Meganium starting at level 32.
Biology
Physiology
Bayleef resembles a pale yellow sauropod dinosaur, with leaf-like growths sprouting in a ring around its neck. A large leaf shaped like a scythe protrudes from its head. It has red eyes, and has one large toenail on each foot. It also has a small tail.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
The aroma wafting from the leaf-like growths around its neck has a spicy scent, and all nearby Pokémon who inhale it become excited and want to fight.
Behavior
Bayleef are calmer than their previous stage, Chikorita. However, the scent that wafts from their leaves serves to make people excited and can cause them to want to fight, so Bayleef probably enjoy fighting as well.
Habitat
Bayleef are very rare Pokémon mostly found in large open plains or small forests with other Chikorita, Bayleef and Meganium.

Sprites
Trivia
- Bayleef is the tallest of any of the middle evolutions of the starters.
- In Generation II front sprites, the hole in its leaf is at the top. In later generations, the front sprites change this to be in the bottom of the leaf. Only the front sprites are affected; the back sprites always show the hole on the same side of the leaf.
- Like Chikorita, Bayleef's Pokémon Gold and Silver sprites show it having a peach body while it's official artwork and later sprites show it having a yellow body.
Origin
This Pokémon is based on sauropods, most notably the apatosaurus.
Name origin
Bayleef's name is a misspelling of the word bay leaf.
