In Generation III games, one can enter his or her Pokémon into a Pokémon Contest, while in Generation IV games, Pokémon can be entered in Super Contests.

There are five different categories of contests, used in Pokémon Contests as well as Super Contests. These Contest categories, also called Contest conditions, are: Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Smartness, and Toughness. Each Pokémon move is categorized under one of these five categories. In addition, Berry flavors, Pokéblock and Poffin colors, and Pokémon natures are associated with certain Contest categories.
