Vaporeon is the result of an Eevee's exposure to the radiation of a Water Stone.
Physiology
Vaporeon is a composite creature sharing physical traits of fish, dolphins, cats, and possibly other animals. Vaporeon's body is light-blue and has a white collar. Vaporeon has yellow ears made of webbing and has a fin on its head resembling its ears. Vaporeon has a pointed pattern of dark blue on its head that encompasses the backs of its ears and head-fin. It also has blue ridges that run down the length of its spine and on to its tail-fin, and the paw pads on its hind feet are dark blue like the ridges. Vaporeon's finned tail is said to look similar to that of a mermaid's. Vaporeon's molecular structure is close to water, so its body glitters when sunlight hits at certain angles.
Vaporeon are highly adapted to aquatic life. Unlike its pre-evolution, it has the ability to breathe underwater. As stated previously, they have a unique molecular structure. They have the ability to "melt" into a body of water and disappear completely from view. They can also manipulate water molecules, giving them the ability to learn Template:Type2 attacks their previous evolution could not.
Vaporeon also have the ability to walk on water.
Like most Water types, Vaporeon can also learn Ice type moves, like Ice Beam and Blizzard.
Because it is a fully evolved Pokémon, Vaporeon can learn Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.
Behavior
Vaporeon are very difficult to observe in the wild, as they are quite rare. When they are in the water, they are virtually impossible to see. While they are much easier to see while they are resting onshore, they possess the ability to rearrange themselves on a molecular level, causing themselves to "melt" into the water. It is likely that many mermaid stories were spawned by Vaporeon sightings, as their tails resemble those of mermaids. When Vaporeon's fins begin to vibrate, it is said to be a sign that rain will come within a few hours.
Vaporeon, the Bubble Jet Pokémon, and an evolved form of Eevee. The composition of its cells is similiar to molecules of water, and as such, can melt in water.
Evolved with the Water Stone. The cells of its body closely resemble water molecules, and it has the ability to dissolve into water.
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
Red temporarily controlled a Vaporeon, which was actually his Eevee temporarily evolving into its three known evolutions. It eventually evolved permanently into an Espeon, losing the ability to switch back and forth between its advanced forms.
Vaporeon underwent a spontaneous mutation and grew fins and gills that allow it to live underwater. This Pokémon has the ability to freely control water.
Vaporeon is tied with Umbreon and Leafeon for tallest Eevee evolution.
It is also the heaviest Eevee evolution.
Thus, both of these facts make it the largest Eeveelution.
Vaporeon has the highest HP base stat of the Eeveelutions. Because of this, Vaporeon has the highest max base stat of all the Eeveelutions. (While the others have 394, Vaporeon has 464.)
In Generation I, Vaporeon had a notably different design with the backs of its ears being all black, fins on each leg, and a fin running down the entire length of its back. All of these details were removed in Generation II. Notably, these details weren't present in its original R/G artwork.
Despite being described as the "Bubble Jet Pokémon", Vaporeon can not learn Bubble. It can, however, utilize TM11 (BubbleBeam) in Generation I.
Vaporeon is the only Eeveelution that does not share any weakness with another.
Origin
Vaporeon are most likely based on a cross between cetaceans, felines, and canids. Their skin is said to be smooth to the touch and like aquatic mammals, and their tail moves up and down rather than side to side like a fish. However, the fins and dorsal lining may be based off different types of tropical fish. The body shape and skull of Vaporeon is very foxlike or catlike. Its ears resemble a mix between a fish's fin and a fennec fox's ears. In the anime and games such as Mystery Dungeon and PokéPark Wii, Vaporeon is shown to enjoy sitting down and preening its skin, fishing, and sunbathing, traits that are common with cats that live by the sea (such as the Turkish Van breed). It also shares characteristics with mermaids. Vaporeon may also be inspired by Telchines, which are aquatic monsters from Greek mythology and said to have dog heads and fish tails.
Name origin
Vaporeon's name is derived from vapor, which is a gaseous form of water. The -eon suffix, common to all Eeveeevolutions, comes from Eevee's prototype English name and possibly refers to the ending suffix of evolution itself. Its Japanese name probably refers to rain showers. The French and German names are based on the word aqua.
